Marcus Freeman recaps No. 5 Notre Dame’s loss at No. 2 Ohio State

How would you rate Marcus Freeman’s first regular season showing as Notre Dame’s head coach?

It wasn’t quite the storybook finish that Marcus Freeman hoped as he returned to Ohio State as the opposing head coach, but Notre Dame’s new leader had the Irish in a position to have a realistic chance to win the game entering the fourth quarter.  Although I’m not a believer in moral victories at Notre Dame, I am a believer in going from really good to truly great taking more than just a day.

There were things to get a bit upset about Saturday night if you’re a Notre Dame fan and things to get excited about in terms of the future.  Here is everything Marcus Freeman had to say following the 21-10 loss to the No. 2 Buckeyes.

The five plays that loomed large in Notre Dame’s 21-10 loss to Ohio State

So close for the Irish

Every game there are plays that aren’t necessarily touchdowns that make big impacts in games. They’re the hidden “big plays” that directly determine the outcome of the game. Here are the five plays that determined the 21-10 win for Ohio State over Notre Dame.

Notre Dame makes slight tweak to iconic helmet

This is different!

Notre Dame’s iconic golden helmet will look different Saturday night when the Fighting Irish take the field at No. 2 Ohio State.

Not much different, but different nonetheless.

Notre Dame football’s official Twitter account posted a few pictures before the contest Saturday as the uniforms were being prepped in the Ohio Stadium locker room for the evening showdown. For the most part, everything looked exactly as it has with the road uniform and helmet for years.

Except for one tiny detail.

The front of the helmet that previously said “IRISH” in navy blue is gone and in its place is a gold interlocking “ND”.  Take a look below.

Two hours until kickoff.

Let’s. Go.

Former Notre Dame players stoked for Ohio State game

Tradition never graduates.

“Tradition never graduates” is one of those sayings you hear about college football and that has certainly applied the last couple of days as Notre Dame gets ready to take on Ohio State in the 2022 season-opener.

Notre Dame and Ohio State is one of those helmet games that you simply see the golden shine on one lid and the iconic Buckeye stickers on the other and you know it’s a contest that will be as rich in tradition as just about possible.

Many of those that used to wear those gold helmets have shared in their excitement for the contest.  Earlier we saw former Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet talking it up with former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields on the Chicago Bears practice field, but plenty of former Irish players have taken to social media to express their excitement for the game.

Take a look at some of the best below and then some pregame excitement from the rest of the Notre Dame community!

Watch: Cole Kmet and Justin Fields debate Notre Dame-Ohio State

Go Irish, Beat Buckeyes

Earlier in the week we found out that former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields would be making the trip to Columbus to watch his Buckeyes host Notre Dame.  He added to the press that Ohio State would roll by at least two touchdowns.

The current Chicago Bears quarterback and his top tight end [autotag]Cole Kmet[/autotag] were pulled aside by the Bears social media team to preview the game and Fields was all over Kmet for his belief in his Irish.  Watch the short video below.

Go shock the world, and Justin Fields, Irish.

Jarrett Patterson remains gametime decision for Notre Dame-Ohio State

Do you think he plays?

If No. 2 Notre Dame is to hang with No. 5 Ohio State tonight the belief is that the Fighting Irish will have to take the air out of the ball to a certain degree and limit possessions because the Buckeyes offense is perhaps the best in the nation and can score in virtually no time.  A key way to be able to keep possession is obviously by having a successful run game and a key injury upfront for Notre Dame has left questions as to who will play this evening.

[autotag]Jarrett Patterson[/autotag], a potentially All-American interior lineman who switched from center to left guard this year, remains a game-time decision for tonight’s clash in Columbus. [autotag]Zeke Correll[/autotag] gets the start at center tonight and if Patterson is unable to go, sophomore [autotag]Rocco Spindler[/autotag] would be expected to make his first career start.

We’ll keep you posted throughout the day as to anything that comes with this and any other storylines regarding Notre Dame-Ohio State.
