Badgers MBB offer five-star combo guard from Indiana

Wisconsin men’s basketball offered Jalen Haralson, a five-star class of 2025 combo guard from Fishers, Indiana on Monday.

Wisconsin men’s basketball offered Jalen Haralson, a five-star combo guard from Fishers, Indiana on Monday. The 6-foot-7 athlete is a sophomore at Fishers High School and the top ranked recruit in his state, 10th overall for the class of 2025.

Haralson figures to be one of the most highly sought after players in the next year plus and he’s already received 12 Division 1 offers, including Indiana and seven other Big Ten schools.

Greg Gard and his staff likely have no shot here with Haralson, but it is a welcomed sight to see Wisconsin going after a five-star athlete. With the success of Indiana native Connor Essegian in 2022-2023, maybe they can convince Haralson to join the Badgers.

Noah Reynolds picks new landing spot

After he backed out of his commitment to join the Badgers next year, Noah Reynolds announced Tuesday that he’s transfering to UW-Green Bay.

After he backed out of his commitment to join the Badgers’ men’s basketball team next season, Noah Reynolds announced Tuesday that he’s transferring to UW-Green Bay. The 6-foot-3 athlete will head to the same program where his brother Nic Reynolds was just hired as an assistant coach.

Reynolds averaged 14.5 points per game in his second season with Wyoming before entering the transfer portal and announced that he’d be transferring to Madison on April 5, which he subsequently backed out of on Wednesday (April 19).

With St. John’s transfer wing AJ Storr choosing to join the Badgers’ men’s basketball program out of the portal in mid April, it’s possible that Reynolds didn’t see the role he wanted happening with Wisconsin.

Pair that with the family connection at Green Bay, it’s fully reconcilable that he had second thoughts and went another direction. For Greg Gard and his staff, they could potentially fill Reynolds’ spot with an additional transfer, potentially a big man.

Transfer commit backs out of joining Badgers

Wyoming transfer guard Noah Reynolds announced Wednesday that he is backing out of his intention to commit to Wisconsin.

Wyoming transfer guard Noah Reynolds announced Wednesday that he is backing out of his intention to commit to Wisconsin. He has officially reopened his recruitment in the portal.

Reynolds originally stated on April 5 that he’d be joining the Badgers in 2023 after spending two seasons with Wyoming. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 14.5 points in his second year with the Cowboys and was expected to give the Badgers a big boost in the backcourt.

Considering the fact that Wisconsin reeled in 6-foot-6 wing AJ Storr from St. John’s on Thursday (April 13), it’s possible that Reynolds felt like his role wouldn’t be what he wanted in Madison.

Although it’s tough to see him change his mind, Greg Gard and his staff could now acquire an additional asset from the portal, potentially addressing their need for another big man behind Steven Crowl and Tyler Wahl.

Badgers in contact with class of 2025 guard from Texas

The Wisconsin men’s basketball staff has been in contact with Caleb Steger, a 6-foot-4 class of 2025 guard from Dallas, Texas.

The Wisconsin men’s basketball staff has been in contact with Caleb Steger, a 6-foot-4 class of 2025 guard from Dallas, Texas. The sophomore at Jesuit College Preparatory School has just started receiving interest from college programs, so the Badgers are potentially ahead of the curve.

Steger averaged 14.3 points and 4.7 rebounds over 24 games this past season, earning himself an offer from TCU in February, his only Division 1 offer to this point.

With Wisconsin already interested, they’ll have an opportunity to get him on campus for an official visit in the coming months if they want to pursue him as an option for the class of 2025. In recent years, the Wisconsin program under Greg Gard has churned out backcourt stars like Johnny Davis and Brad Davison.

Four-star Wisconsin guard commits to Big Ten school

Nick Janowksi, a four-star class of 2024 guard from Pewaukee, Wisconsin committed to Nebraska on Friday.

Nick Janowksi, a four-star class of 2024 guard from Pewaukee, Wisconsin committed to Nebraska on Friday. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound athlete was offered by the Badgers but chose to go elsewhere for college. The three-time state champion will join Fred Hoiberg in Lincoln.

In what has been a consistent trend for Wisconsin basketball, the team looks likely to once again fall short of the hopes and dreams of fans who want them to get one of the top in-state recruits. The program has shifted to being more commonly associated with Minnesota players (Tyler Wahl, Steven Crowl, Nolan Winter) than those that are homegrown in the cheese state.

As of right now, the only commitment that Greg Gard and his staff have gotten from the class of 2024 is 6-foot-6 three-star forward Jack Robison from Lakeville, Minnesota, home of Tyler Wahl and Nate Reuvers.

St. John’s transfer guard visits Madison

Former St. John’s guard AJ Storr visited UW-Madison on Monday after the team reached out to him on the transfer portal.

Former St. John’s guard AJ Storr visited UW-Madison this weekend after the team reached out to him on the transfer portal. The 6-foot-6 athlete averaged 8.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in his one season with the Red Storm.

With Storr visiting the Badgers, it proves that Greg Gard and his coaching staff are not done in the portal even after acquiring guard Noah Reynolds last week (Wyoming). As Jordan Davis looks for a new team following his entrance into the transfer portal, it’s clear that the Badgers are looking to find additional depth at the wing position.

Coming off of a rather disappointing season for Wisconsin, any additions out of the portal will at least pique the interest of fans heading into the offseason. On paper, the Badgers are expected to be one of the most experienced teams in the Big Ten in 2023.

Wyoming transfer commits to Wisconsin

Former Wyoming guard Noah Reynolds committed to join the Badgers’ men’s basketball team next season after entering the transfer portal following two seasons with the Cowboys.

Former Wyoming guard Noah Reynolds committed to join the Badgers’ men’s basketball team next season after entering the transfer portal following two seasons with the Cowboys.

Reynolds appeared in 19 games with Wyoming this past season, averaging 14.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while playing 25 minutes per contest. The 6-foot-3 athlete could step right into Jordan Davis’s role off the bench in 2023-2024. Davis entered the transfer portal last week.

With the Badgers’ offense being the biggest contributor to their downfall this past campaign, it’s obvious Greg Gard and his staff were aggressive in their pursuit of options such as Reynolds.

Considering Tyler Wahl is returning for a fifth season, Wisconsin will certainly have a very experienced roster. It’s possible they challenge for a Big Ten title once again.

Georgia Tech big man with Wisconsin connection enters portal

Cyril Martynov, a 7-foot big man from Georgia Tech entered the transfer portal Monday after one season with the Yellow Jackets.

Cyril Martynov, a 7-foot big man from Georgia Tech, entered the transfer portal Monday after one season with the Yellow Jackets. Martynov and the Badgers were connected in 2021, when head coach Greg Gard attempted to get the big man to reclassify into that year’s recruiting class, a decision he opted against.

Instead, Martynov finished high school in the spring of 2022, joining Georgia Tech for his freshman season this past campaign. He was limited to seven contests, averaging 2.6 minutes per game. As a result, it’s hard to gauge where he’s at as an athlete.

It’s unclear whether the Badgers would be interested in him, but his 7-foot, 230-pound frame may warrant a conversation in Madison’s coaches room.

2024 three-star safety sets visit to Wisconsin football

2024 three-star safety sets visit to Wisconsin football

The Badgers have set up an official visit with 2024 three-star safety Cam Richardson. The Irvington High School standout announced his official visit will be from June 9-11 in Madison.

Richardson holds a number of offers, including from Virginia, Temple, Coastal Carolina, Louisville and Boston College.

The 6-foot-2 safety announced his visit on Twitter over the weekend. The New Jersey native recently posted his junior season highlights on Hudl.

In the class of 2024, Wisconsin has four commitments headlined by quarterback Mabrey Mettauer. The Badgers also have a pair of tight ends in Grant Stec and Rob Booker, as well as offensive tackle Derek Jensen.

Badgers in contact with Eastern Washington transfer

The Badgers have been on contact with Steele Venters, a 6-foot-7 guard from Eastern Washington after he entered the transfer portal.

The Badgers have been in contact with Steele Venters, a 6-foot-7 guard from Eastern Washington after he entered the transfer portal a few days ago. Venters is looking for a new opportunity after spending the first three years of his collegiate career with the Eagles.

Venters saw his role expand with Eastern Washington over the last two years, most recently averaging 15.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 31.4 minutes per game while playing in 34 contests in 2022-2023.

With the Badgers losing Jordan Davis (transfer portal) and potentially Tyler Wahl ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign, Greg Gard could certainly use a wing option like Venters next season.

Overall, Wisconsin has remained very active on the transfer portal so far this offseason, at least when it comes to contacting available players.
