Badgers offensive lineman enters transfer portal

First Badger decides to head elsewhere

As the 2023 college football season has come to an official close, the NCAA transfer portal has heated up and Wisconsin had their first player announce his intention to transfer Wednesday.

Redshirt junior offensive lineman Dylan Barrett will be playing football elsewhere in 2024 after spending the majority of the 2023 campaign operating at the Badgers’ primary backup center behind Tanor Bortolini.

Barrett was initially recruited under Paul Chryst and the previous coaching staff, joining Wisconsin as a member of their 2020 recruiting class.

Quarterback Myles Burkett later announced he’d be entering the transfer portal as well, and more players will likely follow Barrett and Burkett’s lead in the coming days.

Former Badger quarterback chooses new school

After he joined the Badgers as a walk-on last year, Marshall Howe entered the transfer portal in May. He has now announced the next school.

After he joined the Badgers as a walk-on for the 2022 college football season, Marshall Howe entered the transfer portal in May. He has now announced the next school he will be playing for, joining the Yale Bulldogs ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Howe worked as the third-string quarterback behind transfer quarterbacks Tanner Mordecai (SMU) and Braedyn Locke (Mississippi State) this spring, but he ultimately decided that leaving Madison was best.

Coming out of Avon, Connecticut, Howe was a two-star recruit received two Division 1 offers from Davidson and Eastern Illinois, though Yale was also connected to him.

It’s unclear if he’s set to compete for the starting job or not, but he’ll always be considered a Badger.

Former Badger running back picks new school

After three seasons with Wisconsin Football, running back Julius Davis entered the transfer portal and he announced his new school Saturday.

After three seasons with Wisconsin football, running back Julius Davis entered the transfer portal and he announced his new school Saturday night. The Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin native has transferred to Montana State.

Davis was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, joining the Badgers as a member one of their class of 2019 recruits. He arrived one year ahead of four-star ball carrier Jalen Berger, though neither of them got much action behind superstar Jonathan Taylor in the backfield.

Over the three seasons that Davis spent with Wisconsin, he logged a total of 35 carries for 200 yards over eight games. The limited playing time can certainly be attributed to the emergence of Braelon Allen as well as injuries.

Now with Montana State, the 5-foot-11 athlete should be able to get more run and regardless of his production, he’ll always be a Badger!

Former Badger commits to new school

Jordan Davis, who entered the transfer portal at the end of March, committed to play for Illinois State this upcoming season.

Former Badgers guard Jordan Davis, who entered the transfer portal at the end of March, announced Tuesday that he’s committed to play for Illinois State this upcoming season. Davis will officially leave Wisconsin after three seasons with Greg Gard’s team.

Davis and his twin brother Johnny committed to Wisconsin as a three-star recruits in 2019, both coming to Madison as top performers at La Crosse High School. While Johnny quickly blossomed into a star with the Badgers, Jordan had to earn his minutes as a role player off the bench.

Eventually earning and then relinquishing a starting role with Wisconsin following his brother’s departure to the NBA, Jordan Davis averaged 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds this past season.

Considering how hard he played on the court and how he conducted himself off of it, there’s no reason to wish anything but the best for Davis with the Redbirds.

Wyoming transfer commits to Wisconsin

Former Wyoming guard Noah Reynolds committed to join the Badgers’ men’s basketball team next season after entering the transfer portal following two seasons with the Cowboys.

Former Wyoming guard Noah Reynolds committed to join the Badgers’ men’s basketball team next season after entering the transfer portal following two seasons with the Cowboys.

Reynolds appeared in 19 games with Wyoming this past season, averaging 14.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while playing 25 minutes per contest. The 6-foot-3 athlete could step right into Jordan Davis’s role off the bench in 2023-2024. Davis entered the transfer portal last week.

With the Badgers’ offense being the biggest contributor to their downfall this past campaign, it’s obvious Greg Gard and his staff were aggressive in their pursuit of options such as Reynolds.

Considering Tyler Wahl is returning for a fifth season, Wisconsin will certainly have a very experienced roster. It’s possible they challenge for a Big Ten title once again.

Watch: New Badger wide receiver earns his stripes

Wide receiver Bryson Green transferred to Wisconsin from Oklahoma State in January and he has now fully acclimated himself to the Badgers’ locker room, earning the right to wear the team’s logo in the weight room.

New strength and conditioning coach Brady Collins redesigned the Badgers’ weight room and instilled the T-shirt system this offseason. So far, Wisconsin has posted countless high-energy videos of the team working out together.

Green in particular comes into this season as one of over a dozen transfers from other school. The wide receiver brought in 36 catches for 584 yards and five touchdowns last season with the Cowboys and is expected to be a big part of Wisconsin’s “Air Raid” offense under Phil Longo in 2023.

Deep Dive: Look into career of new QB Tanner Mordecai

Will Tanner Mordecai be Russell Wilson 2.0 for the Badgers?

Since he took over at head coach, Luke Fickell has completely changed the culture of the Badger football team. By bringing in coordinators like Phil Longo and Mike Tressel as well, Fickell has made Wisconsin a far more intriguing option for athletes.

Longo’s “Air Raid” offense in particular has been a huge bonus in the Badgers’ favor this offseason and has helped the team reel in talent from across the country.

One player they have gotten via the transfer portal is former SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai. Mordecai will use his final year of eligibility to join the Badgers in 2023 and he’s a current frontrunner to be their next signal caller.

Here’s how the field general’s career has stacked up on his way to Madison:

Wisconsin lands a transfer kicker from the SEC

The Badgers land a transfer kicker

Wisconsin special teams were an adventure all year long, and the Badgers are already making a point of building up the unit in the transfer portal.

Earlier today, the Badgers landed Arkansas transfer Vito Calvaruso after he announced his decision to enter the transfer portal just under a month ago. Before spending the past two seasons as a Razorback, Calvaruso was a five-star kicker in the 2020 class known for his leg strength.

Why is Wisconsin landing the former Arkansas kickoff specialist? It all boils down to one simple stat. This past season, Calvaruso attempted 74 kickoffs as the Arkansas specialist. 63 of those kicks ended up as touchbacks. He averaged 64.8 yards per kickoff, and will look to help the Badgers avoid any disasters in coverage.
