Wisconsin is heavily favored against Indiana according to BetMGM

According to BetMGM, the Wisconsin Badgers open as heavy favorites for Saturday’s game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Wisconsin opens as 13.5 point favorites to the Hoosiers, with a moneyline set at -371. This means that a $371 dollar bet on the Badgers to win, would net you $100 dollars in profit. Indiana opens as a +290 underdog.

Indiana has looked phenomenal early on the season but lost their star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for the year in last weekend’s game against the Maryland Terrapins. This will tremendously impact the Hoosiers offense that has relied heavily on the playmaking of Penix Jr. and receiver Ty Fryfogle. The Badgers will also likely be getting more key players back from the mandatory 21-day protocol for COVID-19 set by the Big Ten.

These factors have caused the odds of this game to open significantly in favor of Wisconsin, even though Indiana has opened the season at 5-1, with the Hoosiers’ only loss coming in a hard-fought game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

New USA TODAY bowl projections show Wisconsin playing a familiar foe

After being projected to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Cotton Bowl last week by USA TODAY, Wisconsin’s projection has moved back to that of a matchup against a very familiar non-conference opponent in the Fiesta Bowl, the BYU Cougars.

Many Wisconsin fans may be familiar with the Cougars because of their 2018 upset of the sixth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall. The loss to BYU ended the Badgers’ hopes for an undefeated regular season, which ended up culminating in Wisconsin’s appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl. Wisconsin has played BYU four times in their history, and the matchup is split even at two games each.

The projected College Football Playoff teams remain unchanged from last week and include Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Oregon.

The drop from last week’s projection of the Cotton Bowl likely comes from the fact that Wisconsin canceled their game last weekend against Nebraska, as well as their upcoming game against Purdue, because of a team outbreak of COVID-19. The Badgers will look to return to action on November 14th against the Michigan Wolverines.

Alvarez announced that the latest report this morning has 10 staff members and 12 players that have contracted COVID-19. Alvarez also stated that there are still additions in cases and that it is ‘something we have to get our arms around and control it.’ Later on in the interview, Alvarez also stated that a decision will be made regarding the November 7th game against Purdue on Tuesday of next week per ESPN’s Jen Lada.

This makes a total of 22 positive cases of COVID-19 from Wisconsin football in the last week, and this is a significant jump from the 16 cases reported in the update from Wisconsin football on Thursday. The reported cases for COVID-19 on the team so far include quarterback Graham Mertz, backup quarterback Chase Wolf, and head coach Paul Chryst.

The chances of Wisconsin playing against Purdue are continuing to drop as cases of COVID-19 rise on this Wisconsin football team. Stay tuned to Badgerswire for updates on the developing situation.
