Indiana Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Hoosiers miss from the Big Ten West Division?

It’s about as nice as could be asked for.

There’s no Northwestern from the West, but missing Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota is fantastic. There’s always the rivalry date against Purdue, and going to Nebraska won’t be easy, but kicking the season off at home against Illinois is solid.

Against the East, Michigan is coming to Bloomington, and the Penn State game is at home coming off a week off, but the date with The Nittany Lions is followed up by road games against Ohio State and Michigan State.

Indiana Football Schedule What To Know: No, the Hoosiers aren’t playing a Power Five team with the non-conference schedule, but …

In general, it’s not right to play a non-conference schedule without a game against another Power Five program, but in this case Indiana is given a pass.

No, home games against Idaho and WKU shouldn’t be taxing, but having to go to Cincinnati – even if this won’t be the Bearcat team of last year – makes up for it.

Indiana Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

Considering how bad Indiana was last year, it can’t take anything for granted and can’t get too excited quite yet, but the schedule has enough winnable dates to get over 2021 and push for at least six wins.

Beat Illinois at home, and it should be a 3-0 start before everything starts to get tough. November is a bear, so most of the work has to be done before late October off week – beating Maryland and home and winning on the road at Rutgers could be a must.

WATCH: Chris Olave makes a spectacular, yet smooth catch in the end zone against Indiana

Watch Chris Olave haul in another touchdown as Ohio State is rolling Indiana right now. #GoBucks

Even in the rain, C.J. Stroud is dropping dimes. Midway through the second quarter, Stroud has already thrown for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The latest TD coming by way of a 16-yard pinpoint pass to Chris Olave in the back of the end zone.

Olave ran a perfect route, as usual, timed his jump, and made a difficult catch look rather ordinary, beating the Indiana defensive back. This offense is loaded and just too many playmakers to account for everyone.

We thought the Buckeyes could put up some big points against the IU defense, but at this rate, it’s getting out of hand quickly as the Hoosiers have no answer for the Ohio State offense.

Watch Olave’s incredible catch below.

Ohio State has scored another touchdown is now up 37-7 over Indiana with just over five minutes to play in the half.

WATCH: TreVeyon Henderson scamper in for a touchdown against Indiana

Watch TreVeyon Henderson go 21 yards to give Ohio State the lead back. #GoBucks

The Ohio State offensive line is opening up gaping holes for the running backs early in the Indiana game. Thayer Munford and Paris Johnson Jr. gave TreVeyon Henderson a clear path to the endzone for the second Buckeye touchdown of the day.

The line opened up a hole for Miyan Williams on the first Ohio State drive of the game that gave the Buckeyes the lead. The OSU offense is humming and it all starts with the guys in the trenches.

Look for the Buckeyes to continue dominating at the line of scrimmage as the No. 1 rated offense in the country tries to keep pace with the rest of the top teams in the nation and work its way back into the College Football Playoff.

Watch Henderson’s scamper below.

The Buckeyes are on the move again and looking to add more to the scoreboard on this rainy night in Bloomington.

Ohio State vs. Indiana football preview and prediction

Ohio State heads to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers. We have a complete preview and prediction to get you ready.

Your Ohio State Buckeyes are up to No. 5 in all the major polls, including the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 Poll.  After a bye week to rest up, the Bucks head into the second half of the season with some important matchups ahead.

First on the docket, a trip to Bloomington where Indiana waits and hopes to exact some revenge on OSU after falling just short to the Buckeyes last year in Columbus. The Hoosier’s lone regular-season loss kept them out of the Big Ten Championship game and may have cost them a trip to the College Football Playoff.

IU fans have been waiting on this one as many feel that Ohio State was handed a spot to represent the Big Ten East after not meeting the minimum required games played. However, Kevin Warren and the Big Ten actually got this one right, something that can’t be said about much of the commissioner’s short tenure.

Time to take the grudge match from the fan’s social media to the gridiron.

Indiana Hoosiers College Football Preview 2021: Offense

At least up until the bowl loss to Ole Miss – when Indiana became the only team all year that didn’t rip apart the Rebel defense – the offense was fine. It wasn’t anything special, but the offensive line was good in pass protection and there were enough good moments to assume something even bigger is on the way, but …

Is Michael Penix Jr. healthy? The quarterback who ripped up Ohio State and pulled out the tremendous comeback against Penn State – HE WAS SHORT OF THE GOAL LINE … sorry, I’ll let it go – suffered a knee injury late in the year, but Jack Tuttle was able to step in and pull off a win over Wisconsin. Tuttle has the size and passing ability to be fine, but the big expectations depend on whether or not Penix can be back to form.

Leading receiver Whop Philyor is now a Minnesota Viking, but the rest of the top targets are back starting with the dynamic Ty Fryfogle. He led the way with 721 yards and seven touchdowns – averaging 19 yards per catch, but he’s not alone. Miles Marshall is a deep threat, and Peyton Hendershot is a volume passing catching tight end.

The running game has been underwhelming over the last few years, averaging fewer than four yards per carry and stalling way too often – the O only got past 170 rushing yards once.

Stevie Scott left for the NFL, but 6-0, 211-pound freshman Tim Baldwin is back after finishing second on the team averaging more than six yards per carry – he’s got the wheels to bring more flash. 220-pound sophomore Sampson James is also back. Helping even more is the addition of USC’s Stephen Carr, a good-sized back who ran for 1,319 yards and 12 scores in his four seasons.

There’s experience on the offensive front, but the production has to be better for the ground game. The pass blocking is fine, but can this group blast away? Overall the line will be a plus if it’s a wee more physical.

Indiana hires Georgia DB coach as defensive coordinator

The Indiana Hoosiers have hired former Georgia Bulldogs defensive backs coach Charlton Warren to be their defensive coordinator.

The Indiana Hoosiers have hired former Georgia Bulldogs defensive backs coach Charlton Warren to be their defensive coordinator. Indiana is coming off an impressive 6-2 season where they challenged Ohio State, defeated Penn State, but lost in their bowl game to Ole Miss.

Indiana is an excellent job for Warren, an Atlanta native. The Hoosiers secondary and defense was very impressive in 2020 under former defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and head coach Tom Allen. Wommack left for the head coaching job at South Alabama.

Charlton Warren deserves a chance to run a defense after previously being a defensive backs coach at Nebraska, UNC, Tennessee, and Florida.

Now, Kirby Smart and Georgia must look for a replacement for Warren. The Bulldogs have a lot of talent in the secondary, but they lack in returning experience at the cornerback position.

In fact, Georgia’s new defensive backs coach must replace the top four corners and top safety from last season. The University of Georgia is losing Tyson Campbell, Eric Stokes, Richard LeCounte, and DJ Daniel to the 2021 NFL Draft. Additionally, Tyrique Stevenson is transferring to Miami and is no longer with the program.

Who will Georgia hire to replace Charlton Warren? The position should be a sought after role and Kirby Smart has a background as a former defensive back at Georgia, so he knows the position well and should hire the right guy.

Ohio State given a lot of respect in Joel Klatt’s early 2021 college football rankings

After a disappointing loss to Alabama and finishing No. 2 in the final polls, Joel Klatt ranks his way-too-early top 10 for 2021.

The College Football Playoff national championship game is still fresh in everyone’s mind with Ohio State coming out on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Does that mean it’s too early to begin thinking about next season? If you’re a Buckeye fan… of course it isn’t.

Joel Klatt likes to give his opinion on college football and shortly after the Alabama Crimson Tide secured their nineteenth national title, Klatt shared who he thinks the top teams will be in 2021. Coming in at No. 1 on Klatt’s list? The Georgia Bulldogs (insert eye-roll here).

How about Ohio State? With an expected exodus to the NFL, the Fox Sports analyst put the Buckeyes in the No. 4 line of his admittedly “way-too-early” rankings. Sandwiched between Georgia and Ohio State are two other blue bloods with Alabama No. 2 and at No. 3 the Oklahoma Sooners.

Somewhat unexpectedly, Klatt put Tom Allen’s Indiana Hoosiers in the top ten as well. But hey, Allen has the program going in the right direction and the Hoosiers do have some key players returning to Bloomington next year.

Ohio State will most likely be breaking in a new quarterback in 2021 as Justin Fields is expected to declare for the NFL draft and there are some other big names that might need to be replaced in Chris Olave, Shaun Wade, Haskell Garrett, and possibly more.

On the bright side of things, the Buckeyes do have the current second-ranked recruiting class in the nation coming to Columbus for next season. However, it will most likely take some time before the young guns are ready to contribute in a meaningful way.

Either way, the cupboard is still pretty stocked on the banks of the Olentangy and it’s never too early to start thinking about next year.

Way-too-early power rankings for the 2021 Big Ten football season

With the 2020 Big Ten football season now over with Ohio State on top, we are ranking the conference’s teams heading into 2021.

The 2020 Big Ten schedule has finally reached its end after what has been an absolute roller coaster ride of a season.

The season was originally postponed back in August, it was then reinstated, numerous games were canceled due to COVID-19 and if that wasn’t enough, the Big Ten Championship wasn’t even the last conference game played.

Hopefully, for the sake of everybody involved, the 2021 calendar year is a bit different and things return to normal by the time the Big Ten starts up again in early September.

One of the necessities of closing a football season is giving a way-too-early look at the year to come, and rank teams based on what we saw this season and we know going into next year.

In order to do this, I put together a ranking system jokingly named Ken(ney)Pom—with reference to the college basketball ranking site KenPom. My metric weighs each team’s returning/incoming production, quarterback play, coaching and 2020 success in order to compare the teams numerically and understand why they are slotted in the spot they’re in.

Necessary disclaimer: the teams are ranked below based on who has discussed returning for another season and they are subject to change as more players enter the NFL Draft, return to play an extra year and as transfers find their homes.

So this is not a sure-fire shot at who will win the conference next season, because so much will change between now and September. It is instead a look at where things stand right now–the week after the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Indiana issues statement in response to Ohio State going to Big Ten Championship Game

Indiana University released a statement in response to the Big Ten’s decision to send Ohio State to the conference’s championship game.

When news broke on Wednesday that the Big Ten was going to remove the six-game minimum that would allow Ohio State to play in the Big Ten Championship, reviews were mixed around the country.

There were those (mostly Buckeye haters) in the camp that said “the rules are the rules and they shouldn’t be bent to benefit one team.” And then there were those with level heads who understood that this was the right and easy thing to do.

Make no mistake, this is not the travesty that some would have you believe, that the Big Ten is changing the rules to benefit Ohio State. The fact is, the conference has had to change several things this football season, as we all have in a year of unknowns. Ohio State also beat Indiana head to head and that’s something that the Hoosiers seem to understand.

Indiana Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Scott Dolson made a statement yesterday and said as much.

“Although we understand the conference’s decision, we are disappointed. From the start of the year, we have said we can only control what we can control. We had a chance to earn our spot in the Big Ten Championship Game, but ultimately fell a touchdown short on the road against a great Ohio State team.” – Scott Dolson

What a classy response from the team most directly affected by the Big Ten’s decision outside of Ohio State, and honestly one that others should take notice of. You’ve had a great season Hoosiers and we wish you nothing but the best in the post-season.
