A closer look at a former Nebraska quarterbacks first UFL training camp

A former Nebraska quarterback is currently preparing for his first season in the United Football League. Adrian Martinez has reported to training camp for the Birmingham Stallions.

The United Football League will kick off its inaugural season in 2024. The professional football league results from a merger between XFL and the United States Football League.

This version of the UFL is not connected to the United Football League, which played from 2009 to 2012. The modern UFL will feature eight teams with two divisions, the XFL Division and the USFL Division.

Martinez played at Nebraska from 2018-21 before transferring to Kansas State for the 2022 campaign. In his Husker career, he went 14-24 as a starter in Lincoln.

For his career, he would throw for 9,391 yards and 49 touchdowns with 30 interceptions. He also ran for 2,847 yards and 44 touchdowns.

He would spend last offseason in camp with the Detroit Lions but was cut during the preseason. You can find a photo gallery of his football career below.

14 former Colts who are on UFL rosters for 2024

A handful of former Colts players are on UFL rosters for 2024.

The USFL and XFL merged this offseason to form the United Football League (UFL) for the 2024 season.

As the cycle of spring football continues to give players a chance to earn another path to the NFL, and there have been a handful of players who have succeeded in carving out a career after playing spring football.

The UFL held its disperal draft and super dispersal draft recently and there were 14 former Colts who landed on rosters for the upcoming season, which begins in March. Some players may have simply spent time on the practice squad while others were even second-round draft picks.

Here are 14 former Colts players who are on rosters for the 2024 UFL season:

13 Saints competing in UFL after 2024 super draft

13 ex-New Orleans Saints players are competing after the 2024 UFL super draft, including Emmanuel Butler, Darius Victor, and Abram Smith:

The XFL and USFL merged earlier this year in a much-publicized joining of the two spring leagues, forming the new United Football League (UFL). And quite a few former members of the New Orleans Saints are in the mix with training camp on the horizon.

As part of that reorganization some teams were dissolved, with their players being made available in a multi-phase super draft for the remaining squads. And after all the picks were turned in, a baker’s dozen of former Saints players found themselves either on new teams or surrounded by new teammates.

Here’s the list:

For many, this will be an opportunity to see beloved Spartans like Kenny Willekes and Montae Nicholson continue to play competitive, professional football on live television, something I think many of us will be looking forward to.

Below, you can see which Spartans are on rosters, and what team they will be playing for.
