The Falcons have signed defensive lineman Carlos Davis to their 16-man practice squad

The Atlanta Falcons signed defensive lineman Carlos Davis to their 16-man practice squad on Thursday, according to team reporter Terrin Waack.

Davis, 27, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft. After three seasons in Pittsburgh, Davis was signed to the Falcons’ 90-man training camp roster but did not make the team.

Atlanta had one practice squad vacancy after the Giants poached defensive lineman Timmy Horne on Thursday. Check out the team’s updated 53-man roster and 16-man practice squad entering Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Dolphins worked out trio of defensive linemen on Tuesday

Dolphins host tryouts on Tuesday.

The Miami Dolphins have lost linebackers to injury in back-to-back games, as Jaelan Phillips suffered a torn Achilles against the New York Jets, and Jerome Baker sustained an MCL injury against the Washington Commanders.

With that, the Dolphins are checking in on some defensive linemen, which could be in an effort to solidify the front seven.

On Tuesday, Miami held workouts for Trevon Coley, Carlos Davis and Justin Ellis.

Ellis, 32, was originally a fourth-round selection by the Oakland Raiders out of Louisiana Tech. After six seasons with the Raiders, he joined the Baltimore Ravens for three seasons and spent 2022 with the New York Giants. In 117 career games, he’s recorded 182 tackles (eight for a loss), five quarterback hits, three tipped passes and 1.5 sacks.

Coley, 29, went undrafted in 2016 after a collegiate career at Florida Atlantic. In his seven seasons as a pro, he’s bounced around between the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears and Washington. He’s appeared in 44 games, recording 100 tackles (14 for a loss), seven quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, two tipped passes and two fumbles recovered.

Davis, 27, was a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2020 after playing for Nebraska in college. He spent three seasons with the Steelers before signing with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason. However, he didn’t make the final roster. Davis is currently on the roster of the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. In 12 career games, he’s recorded 12 tackles (three for a loss), one sack and one quarterback hit.

The Dolphins may not end up signing any of these three, but they are names to keep in mind in case there are more injuries to Vic Fangio’s front.

The Atlanta Falcons added another piece to their defensive line, signing free agent Carlos Davis to the roster on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive tackle was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Davis appeared in just one game last season, recording his first career sack in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Davis replaces Falcons defensive lineman Jalen Dalton, who was released in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Atlanta also signed second-round pick Matthew Bergeron on Tuesday evening.

Check out Atlanta’s updated 90-man roster as the team goes through its third week of organized team activities.

Report: Texans worked out former Steelers DT Carlos Davis

The Houston Texans have worked out former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Carlos Davis.

Although the Houston Texans have made moves to shore up their defensive tackle depth with Taylor Stallworth going on the reserve/injured list and the club signing former New England Patriots defensive tackle Byron Cowart, the team is conducting its due diligence.

According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans worked out former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Carlos Davis.

Pittsburgh originally drafted Davis in 2020 as a seventh-round choice. The former Nebraska product collected 12 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, and 1.0 sack through 12 games.

The 6-2, 320-pound defensive lineman also had a workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars during their rookie minicamp last week.

Giants work out a pair of defensive linemen

The New York Giants hosted a pair of defensive linemen for a tryout in East Rutherford on Tuesday.

The New York Giants may be headed into the offseason but there’s still work to be done in terms of personnel. They’ve already signed 12 total players to reserve/futures deals and are on the hunt for more.

On Tuesday in East Rutherford, the Giants hosted a pair of defensive linemen on a tryout basis: defensive tackle Carlos Davis and defensive end Tim Ward.

The 6-foot-2, 320-pound Davis was a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL draft. He’s appeared in 12 career games, recording 12 tackles (three for a loss), one QB hit, and one sack.

Ward, who is 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He spent two seasons with the Chiefs before making stops with the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers.

In 12 career games, Ward recorded 17 tackles (one for a loss), two QB hits, one sack, and two passes defensed.

Neither player was immediately signed to a contract.

Steelers signing DL Khalil Davis to practice squad

ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reported that the Steelers are signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers DL Khalil Davis to their squad.

When the practice squad update is released later today, expect defensive lineman Khalil Davis to be on it. ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer to their squad.

Davis, 25, was a sixth-round pick with the Buccaneers in the 2020 NFL draft. He appeared in two games during his rookie season but hadn’t played at all for the Bucs this season.

The Steelers were in line for the Davis lottery when the Bucs released him last month. Instead, the Indianapolis Colts grabbed Davis, and the Steelers signed nose tackle Eli Ankou, who they released one week later.

The Colts waived Davis on Saturday after just six snaps in Week 6.

Davis will presumably take the spot of his twin brother, Carlos, who the Steelers placed on injured reserve last week.

The Davis’ join T.J. and Derek Watt and Trey and Terrell Edmunds as the third set of brothers on the team.

Week 9 Inactives, Captains: Cowboys still won’t play Anae, Robinson but Elliott to go

With the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers getting ready for kickoff in Arlington, the official inactive lists have been released.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”JgCoKmugcC-1030243-7498″]

With the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers getting ready for kickoff in Arlington, the official inactive lists have been released. Ezekiel Elliott, after going through a closely monitored pregame workout routine, is indeed active despite being limited in practice throughout the week. He has yet to miss a game due to injury in his career.

There was some thought that the soft tank would be on for a team that has nothing meaningful to play for the rest of the year, but the team apparently hasn’t reached that point yet, though that could change. The official inactive list can be seen below:

Linebacker Joe Thomas is out with a wrist injury despite returning to practice, though in a limited fashion, on Friday. It will presumably be Sean Lee who fills his shoes.

Defensive end Aldon Smith, who has been dealing with an ailing knee for a couple of weeks will be available for use, though it’s possible he’s on a limited pitch count with Randy Gregory on the gameday roster. Rookie defensive back Reggie Robinson is still not able to get onto the active roster so far this year. The fourth-round pick has been healthy but a scratch all season. Likewise, fifth-round DE Bradlee Anae is inactive as well.

For the Steelers, Defensive tackle Tyson Alualu is out, though that had been reported earlier in the week, which will give the interior of the Dallas line a bit of a break. His replacement is rookie Carlos Davis, a seventh-round pick out of Nebraska.

Week 9 Captains

Meanwhile, the choices for captains for the Cowboys must be getting slim, because it’s a ragtag bunch of players getting the nod this week. Wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, defensive tackle Antwaun Woods and C.J. Goodwin make up that crew.

Guard Kevin Dotson, the Steelers fourth selection in the draft, chose No. 69, last worn by defensive tackle Joshua Frazier. Shortly after the draft, Dotson took to Twitter to ask fans to choose his number. And, of course, the masses voted No. 69 — by quite a large margin.

Safety Antoine Brooks, selected fifth by the Steelers, chose No. 25, last worn by cornerback Artie Burns.

Defensive tackle Carlos Davis, the Steelers’ final selection, chose No. 73, last worn by recently-retired guard Ramon Foster.

Steelers select DT Carlos Davis in 7th round of 2020 NFL draft

The Steelers wrap up the draft with the pick of Carlos Davis.

[jwplayer g8a3cqbk-ThvAeFxT]

The Pittsburgh Steelers put the wraps on their 2020 NFL draft by selecting massive nose tackle Carlos Davis out of Nebraska. Davis is the team’s sixth and final draft selection.

Davis, along with his twin brother Khalil have been anchors in the middle of the Nebraska defensive line. Khalil was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round and now his bother comes off the board to the Steelers.

Davis didn’t light up the boxscore at Nebraska but he does offer a particular set of skills as well as a body type the Steelers could use. The Steelers let Javon Hargrave leave in free agency to the Philadelphia Eagles and although they signed Chris Wormley, a player like Davis could end up pretty valuable as a run stuffer.
