Former Clemson running back Wayne Gallman is back in professional football

Wayne Gallman is returning to professional football.

A former Clemson running back is returning to professional football after some time away from the game.

The United Football League announced multiple signings on Friday, with Wayne Gallman agreeing to a contract to sign with the St. Louis Battlehawks. The UFL is giving former professionals and more an opportunity to play football again, with Gallman taking advantage.

The last time Gallman was in the NFL was in 2022 when he was on both the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks practice squads. During his NFL career, Gallman appeared in 61 games for the New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, and Minnesota Vikings, rushing for 1,548 yards and nine touchdowns.

Gallman’s professional career started with the Giants, where he was drafted 140th overall in the 2017 NFL draft. He left Clemson rushing for 429 rushing yards on 676 carries, with 34 touchdowns over 42 games (37 starts).

Former New York Giants running back Wayne Gallman is resuming his professional football career. He recently agreed to terms on a contract with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL.

A fourth-round pick of the Giants out of Clemson back in 2017, Gallman was not re-signed as a free agent in 2021, sending him bouncing around the NFL, spending time with San Francisco, Minnesota, Atlanta, and Kansas City before landing in Seattle.

Gallman, 29, last played in the NFL in 2022 with the Seattle Seahawks.

In 61 career games in the NFL, 14 of which were starts, Gallman rushed for 1,548 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. He also hauled in 81 receptions for 519 yards and two touchdowns.

31 days until Vikings season opener: Every player to wear No. 31

Currently worn by CB Tay Gowan, 19 people have worn the No. 31 for the Minnesota Vikings.

It’s the final countdown…

Well, sort of.

The Minnesota Vikings will kick off their 2023 regular season in 31 days at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 10.

From now until then, we will take a trip down memory lane and count each day by revisiting the players that have worn that specific jersey number.

Cornerback Tay Gowan currently wears No. 31 for the Minnesota Vikings.

With 31 days until kickoff, here’s a look at every player to wear No. 31 with the Vikings (via Pro Football Reference):

Seahawks: These 6 practice squad players are now free agents

These six players were left off and will now become free agents.

Practice squad players who were on teams that were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs had their contracts expire today.

The Seattle Seahawks signed 10 of their practice squad guys to reserve/future contracts last week, but these six players were left off and will now become free agents.

Seahawks RBs Godwin Igwebuike, Wayne Gallman elevated from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks elevated running backs Godwin Igwebuike and Wayne Gallman from the practice squad ahead of Week 16 against the Chiefs.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of moves on Friday afternoon that will hopefully add a little depth to the run game. Running backs Godwin Igwebuike and Wayne Gallman have been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 16 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With running backs Kenneth Walker III and DeeJay Dallas both listed as questionable to play with ankle injuries, providing more support at the position is the best way to play it safe.

Igwebuike, who has now been promoted for the third week in a row, has been handling the team’s kick-return duties as well.  If Gallman makes an appearance on Saturday, it would be his Seahawks debut.

The Seahawks and Chiefs are set to kick off Saturday morning –  Christmas Eve –  at 10 a.m. PT.

Seahawks re-sign RB Wayne Gallman to practice squad

Seattle still had an open spot on the practice squad, even after re-signing defensive tackle Jarrod Hewitt.

The Seahawks announced three roster moves yesterday afternoon, including moving defensive tackle Bryan Mone to the injured reserve list.

Seattle still had an open spot on the practice squad, even after re-signing defensive tackle Jarrod Hewitt. So, they’ve filled the opening by re-signing running back Wayne Gallman. He signed with the Seahawks two weeks ago and then was released six days ago to make room for wide receiver Jaylen Smith. Gallman was spotted at practice wearing Earl Thomas’ old No. 29.

The Seahawks probably wouldn’t have brought Gallman back if they felt good abouy rookie running back Ken Walker playing this weekend against the Chiefs. Walker was back on the injury report yesterday with an ankle issue and was one of seven players who did not participate.

A fourth-round pick by the Giants in the 2017 NFL draft, Gallman has played in 61 NFL games all together, totaling 1,548 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

Seahawks to sign veteran RB Wayne Gallman to practice squad

Due to injuries at the position, the Seattle Seahawks are signing veteran running back Wayne Gallman to the practice squad to add depth.

The Seattle Seahawks will be adding a little depth to the run game by signing veteran running back Wayne Gallman to the team’s practice squad, per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

The Seahawks running back corps was hit hard on Sunday when Kenneth Walker III left the game with an ankle injury. While coach Pete Carroll has confirmed Walker suffered a “jam” as opposed to an actual sprain, his exact timeline for return remains uncertain.

“I don’t have much more detail about it,” Carroll said Monday. “He’s got an area of ankle that’s sore that he jammed. There’s some strained tissue in there, but it’s not an ankle sprain. It’s not a high ankle sprain, it’s not a lateral ankle sprain like we normally report on. It’s different than that.”

Gallman was originally selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft and played four seasons in New York. He spent time with both the Falcons and the Vikings last year.

Gallman could very well be elevated to the active roster ahead of the Panthers game on Sunday.

Chiefs release C Austin Reiter, RB Wayne Gallman from practice squad

The #Chiefs made Melvin Gordon’s practice squad addition official and terminated the contracts of C Austin Reiter and RB Wayne Gallman.

The Kansas City Chiefs terminated the practice squad contracts of two players on Tuesday.

The team released DE Azur Kamara from the practice squad on Monday to make room for WR Bryan Edwards. We knew that at least one more move was coming with news that RB Melvin Gordon III was also signed to the team’s practice squad, but Brett Veach surprised fans by making two moves.

The Chiefs released both C Austin Reiter and RB Wayne Gallman from the practice squad on Tuesday. Reiter, of course, started 38 games for Kansas City from 2018-2020 and was the team’s starting center in both Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LV.

Reiter was the only true center that the team had on both the 53-man roster and practice squad outside of starting center Creed Humphrey. Expect that practice squad OL Mike Caliendo will now slide into that role on the practice squad, while Nick Allegretti can play center in a pinch as well.

Gallman was an addition back in mid-October. The former fourth-round draft pick by the Giants was made expendable the moment the Chiefs made the decision to add Gordon to the practice squad as the two players have very similar skill sets.

Kansas City now has just 15 players on their 16-man practice squad with TE Jordan Franks on the practice squad/injured list with a broken hand.
