Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson welcomes people to UFL with powerhouse promo

The UFL kicked off with a powerful promo by Dwayne “The Rock’ Johnson

The Rock took some time away from his WWE business on Saturday.

Dwayne Johnson delivered a booming welcome to the fans and national TV audience as the UFL kicked off its inaugural season.

The UFL is a product of the merger of the USFL and XFL.

It is a matter of time to see whether this spring league catches on big time or flops.

The Birmingham Stallions were playing the Arlington Renegades.

USFL, XFL merge to create United Football League

The XFL and USFL have merged to become the United Football League

The USFL is no more for the second time. The XFL is no more for the third time.

However, there will be a spring league: The United Football League.

The announcement was made by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia on the FOX Sports NFL pregame show.

The first game will be on March 30 of the new league.

The opening game will feature USFL champion Birmingham Stallions against the XFL champion Arlington Renegades.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson makes special presentation to Jimmy Johnson

Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson with a gift for Jimmy Johnson

Jimmy Johnson was emotional on the set of FOX Sports’ NFL pregame show, the day after he was inducted into the Dallas Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.

The show had another surprise for the two-time Super Bowl-winning coach. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson came onto the set and had a special gift for Jimmy Johnson.

After explaining what Miami and Jimmy Johnson meant to him, Dwayne Johnson gave the coach his actual letter of intent to play for the Hurricanes.

A new Dwayne Johnson wax statue looks nothing like him, leads to so many jokes

This … does NOT look like The Rock at all.

In the grand tradition of statues that look nothing like the person they’re representing (see: the Cristiano Ronaldo bust at an airport, remember that?), we have a new one: A really, really bad wax version of Dwayne Johnson.

I’m sure The Rock will raise his one eyebrow with this thing. It’s a likeness of the actor, wrestler and business owner that will be displayed at the Grevin Museum in Paris. As you’ll see, everyone’s comparing this one to Mr. Clean or other notable names, and I tend to agree (sorry to the artist, but … yikes).

Check out the wax Rock and the reaction to it all over X:

Dwayne Johnson shouts out Saints punter Lou Hedley after making the team

Dwayne Johnson shouts out Saints rookie Lou Hedley after winning the punting job: ‘Rooting for this guy to make it’

Lou Hedley was a surprise entry on the New Orleans Saints’ initial 53-man roster, having won the punting job from a younger incumbent in Blake Gillikin. The 30-year-old rookie has one of the best stories in the NFL this year, and he already has a robust fanbase.

And a couple of celebrities are in that number, including Dwayne Johnson. Hedley’s accomplishment earned words of support from “The Rock” himself. Hedley first got on Johnson’s radar after picking the entertainer’s jersey number when he arrived at Miami, their shared alma mater. That’s an impressive fan to have in his corner. Hopefully it helps him find more success after turning pro.

Marvin Harrison Jr, Brock Bowers, Angel Reese among first class of The Rock’s NIL partnership

“I’m pumped to be a part of such a unique group of athletes, and who better than The Rock to bring us together for a one-of-a-kind opportunity.”

Former professional wrestler turned entrepreneur, actor, father, and more decided to delve into the world of name, image, and likeness. Dwayne, The Rock, Johnson’s company ZOA Energy announced the inaugural class of The Rock’s Warriors.

The inaugural group includes Angel Reese (basketball, Louisiana State University), Hansel Emmanuel (basketball, Austin Peay State University), Brock Bowers (football, University of Georgia), Marvin Harrison Jr. (football, Ohio State University), Drake Maye (football, University of North Carolina), Kam Kinchens (football, University of Miami) and Amaya Gainer (softball, Florida A&M).

“Through this first-of-its-kind NIL expansion program, ZOA Energy will bring together some of the greatest college athletes of our time. I know from experience the grit and hard work that’s required of these college athletes to get the job done. Not just during their championship games or in the classrooms, but every day in the game of life. ZOA gives people that power, that unique energy to fuel themselves and fuel others around them – that’s why I’m super pumped about uniting all of The Rock’s Warriors under one roof,” said ZOA co-Founder and Chief Energy Officer, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. “I personally selected these phenomenal individuals because of the energy, tenacity, and excitement they bring to the game. With a diverse set of stories and experiences, they’re driven, hungry, talented, and ready for ZOA to help fuel them to greatness.”

According to ZOA’s press release, the athletes will lead an upcoming marketing campaign for the brand and create content across social media platforms while also supporting national and regional retail partnerships and philanthropic events across the country on behalf of ZOA.

“I’m pumped to be a part of such a unique group of athletes, and who better than The Rock to bring us together for a one-of-a-kind opportunity,” said Angel Reese, women’s basketball player and reigning National Champion at Louisiana State University. “ZOA is all about putting in the work, learning from your wins and losses, and empowering others, something I strive to do every day on and off the court, so it was a no-brainer to join the first class of The Rock’s Warriors.”

More athlete-entrepreneurs should look into providing mentorship and brand partnerships with college and professional athletes. These athlete-entrepreneurs have a unique lens through which they view the world at large and the ecosystem of sport.

“While money certainly talks, the ability to engage with someone like Johnson–who has been successful as an athlete, actor and now entrepreneur–speaks louder. Other athlete-led companies should consider how they can authentically leverage the brain power and lived experiences of their leadership to facilitate meaningful NIL deals,” shared Alicia Jessop, a sports industry leader, attorney, journalist, and professor focused on promoting athlete, creator, and consumer well-being and women’s leadership in the sport and entertainment industries.

Bobby Wagner says he wants to be part of the XFL

We’re assuming Wagner means as an investor rather than a linebacker.

The NFL swallows so much oxygen that it’s difficult for pro spring leagues to stick around. If any of them have a chance, it’s the latest iteration of the XFL, which is led by Dwayne Johnson.

Promising as it is, it takes time to build up any sports league and this past year they reportedly lost $60 million. Johnson still believes it can be a success, though and he’s not the only one. Over the weekend, Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner tweeted that he wants to be part of the XFL and tagged The Rock in it.

We’re assuming Wagner means as an investor rather than a linebacker. While he’s not in Johnson’s league financially, Wagner has made over $96 million in his NFL career so far.

28-year-old rookie Saints punter Lou Hedley might be the most interesting man in the NFL. The Australian ex-scaffolder was sensational at Miami:

The New Orleans Saints might have added the most interesting man in the NFL after the 2023 draft, having signed Australian punter Lou Hedley after his sensational run with the Miami Hurricanes. He hails from Mandurrah, a coastal city of about 107,000 people in Western Australia, and he’s as unique as they come.

XFL set to kick off for the third time

Will the third time be the charm for the XFL?

If at first, you don’t succeed … the XFL is going to try it again.

The third incarnation of the fledgling football league kicks off on Saturday.

This go-round is headed up by Dwayne Johnson and business partner Dani Garcia.

The opener is on ABC and features the Vegas Vipers against the Arlington Renegades at 3 p.m. ET.

Later, the Orlando Guardians meet the Houston Roughnecks on ESPN.

On Sunday, the St. Louis Battlehawks meet the San Antonio Brahmas and the Seattle Sea Dragons face the D.C. Defenders.

Earlier this week the league had a national conference call.

Some of the highlights:

  • All 43 games, 40 regular season, two playoffs, one championship, will be featured on a combination of the Walt Disney Company networks, including ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, FX, and in one case we will simulcast between ESPN and FX.
  • Coaches have the opportunity to challenge anything. One time per game, it’s an all-in challenge, and any officiating decision a coach — if they have a time-out remaining, they can challenge that decision. This has never been done before at any level of football, and something that we’ve talked about in my time, during my time with the NFL,” said Dean Blandino, VP of Officiating and Rules Innovation. “Again, when you think about whether it’s a pass interference call that is made or maybe it’s a holding call that was not made and the coach thinks it should have been called, we’re going to give our coaches that opportunity.

Some rules and innovations to be aware of:

KICKOFFS

  • Teams begin play five yards apart – kicking team at opponent’s 35-yard line and return team at own 30-yard line

EXTRA POINTS

  • Tiered extra points are back
  • Teams will have three run/pass only options for extra points following a touchdown
  • 2-yard line = one point; 5-yard line = two points; 10-yard line = three points
  • Defense awarded same number of points for a touchdown

OPTIONS TO KEEP BALL

  • Teams will have two options to keep the ball after scoring:
      • Traditional onside kick (any time during game) or
      • 4th and 15 conversion from own 25-yard line (4thquarter only)

OVERTIME

  • Consists of alternating attempts from opponent’s 5-yard line
  • Three attempts per team (two points per score) or until winner is decided

The Rock absolutely loved Travis Kelce’s trash-talking homage during AFC title celebration

The Rock approves!

It looks like Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a new fan in one of the most famous people on the planet.

After Kelce channeled Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in his AFC championship trophy speech, the former WWE star-turned-Hollywood actor praised the tight end for his homage.

When The Rock likes what you’re cooking, you know that you’re doing your trash talk at an elite level. Kelce threw around plenty of shade during Sunday’s celebrations, and he’s certainly found a new admirer in one of the shade kings of his generation.

This is just another fantastic feather in Kelce’s cap.

Wow, that’s pretty cool for Kelce. Now that The Rock has given him his stamp of approval, we can bet that Kelce will continue the wrestling vibes into Super Bowl weekend.

If Kelce can take home a second Super Bowl for his career, it’ll make all of his trash talk that much sweeter.
