A top recruiting target is set to visit the UNC football program this weekend as he makes his way back to campus.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program are set to host a few guests this weekend in Chapel Hill. And among the recruits in attendance is one of the top overall players in the 2024 class.

Five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis is a big Tar Heels’ target and it now UNC will get another shot to impress the recruit this weekend. Davis took to Twitter to reveal that he will be on UNC’s campus again this weekend for an unofficial visit.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Davis is a Charlotte native that is ranked No. 2 overall, the No. 1 quarterback, and No. 1 player in the state per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

He has a total of 23 offers so far in his recruitment, including one from the Tar Heels who are in heavy pursuit of him. Davis has been on campus a few times already in his recruitment, a good sign for UNC that he’s coming back.

UNC WR Tylee Craft reveals cancer diagnosis

UNC football wide receiver Tylee Craft is stepping away from the team as he battles a rare form of cancer.

UNC wide receiver Tylee Craft revealed some unfortunate news on Wednesday as the Tar Heels continue with Spring ball here in March.

The receiver announced via his social media that he has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer earlier this month and has already started treatment chemotherapy.  Craft has been dealing with chronic back pain and it got to the point where he decided to go get checked out.

At the appointment, the check-up revealed that it was cancer forcing him to step away from the game of football as he undergoes treatment to get back onto the field as soon as possible.

The former three-star receiver in the 2020 class out of Sumter, South Carolina committed to the Tar Heels on April 19th, 2019. He’s appeared in four games as a receiver and on special teams during the 2021 season for the Tar Heels and was expected to compete for a bigger role this Spring.

Our positive thoughts are with Craft and his family at this time as he undergoes treatment.

UNC loses safety to transfer portal ahead of Spring Game

A four-star UNC football safety has entered the transfer portal per a report on Tuesday afternoon.

When the UNC football program takes the field in April for their annual Spring game, they will be without a player in their secondary.

Per Inside Carolina, redshirt sophomore safety Cameron Roseman-Sinclair has entered the transfer portal on Tuesday as he looks for a new home. The former four-star safety out of Charlotte spent most of his time at UNC as a reserve safety including playing in all 13 games during the 2021 season. He fell behind on the depth chart as UNC had several guys at the position but he was expected to compete for more playing time this Spring.

Realistically, it was going to be an uphill battle for Roseman-Sinclair to earn a starting spot in the secondary. He now hopes to move on and find a place where he can go in and have a shot to start.

Roseman-Sinclair was ranked No. 234 overall, the No. 24 safety and the No. 10 player in the state of North Carolina when he committed. He will finish his career at UNC with 7 tackles.

The Tar Heels are also in the market for a defensive back in the transfer portal and sent out an offer to a former Middle Tennessee State product on Monday.

Sam Howell falls out of first round in latest PFF mock draft

UNC football quarterback Sam Howell fell out of the first round of this 2022 NFL mock draft from Pro Football Focus.

The 2022 NFL Draft is just over a month away as pro days continue on for college prospects. For the UNC football program, they have a few players that should hear their name called in April’s draft headlined by quarterback Sam Howell.

After three seasons in Chapel Hill, Howell is off to the pros and is joining a quarterback class that has a lot of questions surrounding it.

Depending on who you ask, Howell has a grade anywhere from a first-round pick to a day two selection. Most mocks have him going late in the first round behind Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis and even Matt Corral in some.

But in the latest mock draft from Pro Football Focus, Howell is slipping out of the first round and falls to the New York Giants in round two at No. 36 overall. He’s the fourth quarterback selected going behind Willis, Pickett and Corral.

Howell would love to be a first-round pick but maybe falling to New York isn’t a terrible thing. The Giants just hired Brian Daboll who worked with Josh Allen in Buffalo and he has experience with Alabama as well, working with their quarterbacks.

The rookie could also contend for the starting spot early as the team isn’t clearly sold on Daniel Jones just yet. But the good news for Howell is that there’s a lot of time between now and April including his pro day to improve his stock.

UNC football heads to transfer portal, offers defensive back

Mack Brown and the UNC football program are going to the transfer portal to offer a former three-star defensive back.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have their eyes on the transfer portal for a late addition to the 2022 roster.

Former three-star recruit and Middle Tennessee State defensive back Quincy Riley announced on Monday morning that he has received an offer from North Carolina while in the portal. Riley entered the portal on February 16th and has drawn interest from a few programs with UNC being the latest to reach out.

The Tar Heels are hoping to add some depth to their secondary which has Storm Duck and Tony Grimes but could use another piece or two back there for the defense.

The 6-foot, 172 pound Riley is a Columbia, South Carolina native that picked Middle Tennessee State as part of the 2019 class and will enter his redshirt sophomore year here in 2022.

Since entering the portal, he’s drawn interest from programs like Mississippi State, NC State, Georgia Tech, Old Dominion, Illinois, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana, and Ole Miss among others.

Four-star UNC football recruiting target cuts list, sets date

This four-star UNC football recruiting target has cut his list and set a decision date for the Spring.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program will soon learn their fate for a big four-star recruit in the 2023 class.

Georgia native Michael Daugherty officially cut his list of 43 offers down to seven schools on Friday, naming North Carolina, Texas, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Miami, and Louisville as his finalists. He also announced that he will be making his college decision on April 13th, ending his recruitment and committing to a program.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety out of Logansville is a big target for the Tar Heels in the 2023 class. He visited last Fall for a game and was then back on campus in January to see the program, just a few months after including them in his top 8. He did have plans to commit to a school in the Summer but has now pushed that up.

Daugherty is on a visit to Auburn this weekend as the Tigers are another big school in the running to land him.

He is ranked No. 166 nationally, the No. 15 safety and No. 17 player in the state of Georgia per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

5-star CB Daylen Everette decommits from Clemson

Five-star cornerback Daylen Everette decommitted from Clemson after Brent Venables took the head coaching job with Oklahoma.

Five-star cornerback recruit Daylen Everette has decommitted from the Clemson Tigers. Everette decided to reopen his recruitment after former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables decided to take the head coaching job with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Georgia Bulldogs were among the top five schools in the hunt to secure a commitment from five-star defensive back Daylen Everette.

The University of Georgia offered Everette a scholarship early in his recruiting process in December 2019. Everette is a member of the class of 2022 and plays football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Before transferring to IMG Academy, Everette played football at Norview High School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Now, Everette committed to Clemson over Georgia, UNC, Oregon, and FSU. back on July 17.

Everette has a background running track and is ranked as one of the top prospects in the country. He is the No. 29 prospect in his class and the No. 6 cornerback recruit.

The five-star corner visited Alabama following his decommitment. The Crimson Tide are certainly in the mix for Everette. UGA already has commitments from three cornerbacks in the class of 2022, so it would be unlikely for the Dawgs to take many more, but Everette has the talent to fit into any recruiting class.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior has an elite list of offers, including from  Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and Miami.

Everette announced his decommitment from Clemson via Twitter:

The four-star defensive back has visited Georgia, UNC, FSU and Clemson in recent weeks.  Everette had been unable to visit schools for over a year due to the NCAA’s recruiting dead period.

North Carolina players against proposed College Football Playoff expansion

UNC might be in the minority on this take

When the College Football Playoff committee decided that expansion from four teams to twelve was in it’s best interest, the praise was pretty much universal. The fact that eight other teams would be able to participate means that more teams will have a chance to crown themselves champions.

Well, in Chapel Hill, it seems like all of the North Carolina players aren’t on-board like the rest of us are. They are in favor of the expansion, but not at the proposed format, they would like to see less teams involved. Their argument surrounds the fact that the amount of teams doesn’t still give each team a realistic shot at winning a championship.

While their argument is valid, it really doesn’t hold much water. There have been just as many close, “instant classic” games as there have been blowouts. The first edition in the 2014 season saw the semifinal contest between Ohio State and Alabama as the most competitive game of the three.

The next year, both semifinal games were blowouts but the title game was the main attraction. The point is that even some of the teams that make the final-4 aren’t always real title contenders.

The NCAA is trying to replicate March Madness’ excitement, and why wouldn’t they. Underdogs upsetting top teams is something we all love to see and why not the same with the College Football Playoffs. Yes, the field would be a bit watered down with 12 teams, but it would be much more exciting in general.

I’ve long wanted an expanded CFP field and it looks to be on the horizon. I really could care less how many teams, I just want to see more football with every team going all out. The UNC players might be right, not every team that is in the CFP will have a real shot at the title, but it’ll still be a fun to watch either way.

Pro Football Focus ranks all 130 CFB teams: Where is Georgia?

Ranking all 130 college football teams. Where does Georgia football rank in the preseason CFB rankings?

Pro Football Focus recently ranked all 130 college football teams for the upcoming 2021 season.

Georgia checked in at No. 4 in the rankings, and PFF gave UGA a 7 percent chance of winning the national title and a 24 percent chance of leaving Atlanta as SEC champs.

Per PFF, Georgia’s highest-graded returning player is quarterback J.T. Daniels at 88.3.

A few SEC teams worth noting include Alabama (1), Texas A&M (6), Florida (7), LSU (10), Auburn (15) and Tennessee (45).
