Georgia facing former UGA DL Tymon Mitchell in national championship

The Georgia Bulldogs will face TCU defensive lineman Tymon Mitchell, a UGA football transfer, in the national championship game

The Georgia Bulldogs will face former Georgia defensive lineman Tymon Mitchell in the national championship game. Mitchell announced that he was transferring to the TCU Horned Frogs in the spring of 2022.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound rising redshirt junior, played in eight career games at Georgia and recorded 11 total tackles. The former three-star class of 2019 recruit has had a larger role for TCU in 2022.

Mitchell has 18 total tackles and three sacks for the Horned Frogs. He recorded one tackle in the College Football Playoff against Michigan. Mitchell gives the Horned Frogs some championship experience and familiarity with the Bulldogs. He is a part of TCU’s defensive line rotation, but is not one of their top contributors.

Tymon Mitchell was expected to have a slightly larger role for the Bulldogs in 2022, but he transferred following spring practice. It is safe to say that Mitchell’s transfer ended up working out pretty well.

Stevenson finished the 2022 college football season with 25 total tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections. Miami had a very disappointing 5-7 season, but Stevenson was one of the few brights spots on the Hurricanes.

Stevenson’s best play of the season came in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, when he defected a fourth down pass to give Georgia’s offense an opportunity to win the game.

Stevenson is a former four-star recruit out of Miami Southridge High School. The Miami defensive back announced that he would be entering the NFL draft via Twitter:

Georgia OT Amarius Mims withdraws from transfer portal

Georgia Bulldogs offensive tackle Amarius Mims is withdrawing from the NCAA transfer portal after considering FSU and Miami

Georgia Bulldogs offensive tackle Amarius Mims is expected to withdraw his name from the NCAA transfer portal. Mims, a former five-star recruit, was one of the top available transfers in the country, but elected to return to Athens.

The Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles were two of the top programs in the hunt for Mims.

Amarius Mims is from Bleckley County in Cochran, Georgia. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound sophomore is projected to be Georgia’s top backup offensive tackle behind left tackle Broderick Jones and right tackle Warren McClendon. Mims has the potential to win the starting job at one of those positions or could shift inside to guard.

Mims’ return is a big win for Georgia offensive line coach Stacy Searles. It is rare for a college football team’s offensive line to go through the season completely healthy. Mims could easily be called upon to start a key game.

For example, last season Georgia’s starting offensive guard, Tate Ratledge, suffered a season-ending injury in the opener against Clemson. A similar injury this year would force a shift along the offensive front.

Mims played in eight games for the Bulldogs during his freshman season in 2021. He gives Georgia a powerful extra offensive tackle and ensures Georgia’s future at the position is bright.

Kirby Smart got Broderick Jones to wait for two years before being a hero and doing a stellar job blocking the nation’s sack leader, Will Anderson, in the national championship game. Now, Mims will see if his patience pays off.

Former five-star recruit and Georgia Bulldogs offensive tackle Amarius Mims has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Mims is instantly one of the best, if not the best, available transfers in the country.

Amarius Mims is from Bleckley County in Cochran, Georgia. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound sophomore was projected to be Georgia’s top back up offensive tackle behind left tackle Broderick Jones and right tackle Warren McClendon.

Mims joins former five-star center recruit Clay Webb in the portal. Georgia has lost depth along the offensive front since Stacy Searles took over for Matt Luke as offensive line coach.

Mims played in eight games for the Bulldogs during his freshman season in 2021 and is looking to start at his transfer destination.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Mims’ transfer:

FSU and Miami are considered two of the top potential transfer destinations for Amarius Mims:

Tracking Georgia Bulldogs in the 2022 NCAA transfer portal

The Georgia Bulldogs football program has already seen five players leave the school for other programs within the SEC this offseason.

The Georgia Bulldogs football program has already seen five players leave the school for other programs within the SEC this offseason. Georgia won the 2021 national championship, but that does not mean that every player is satisfied with their role.

Georgia has lost a lot of talent to the transfer portal at defensive back and wide receiver. The Bulldogs lost defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae to Miami and wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton to LSU, which contributes to the high amount of transfers at those two position groups.

To date, Georgia has lost seven players to other programs and one player (quarterback JT Daniels) remains in the transfer portal.

Former UGA LB named ACC Defensive Player of the Year

Florida State Seminoles defensive end Jermaine Johnson, a former UGA LB, has been named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Florida State Seminoles defensive end Jermaine Johnson has been named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson, a senior transfer from Georgia, was Florida State’s best player in 2021.

Jermaine Johnson finished the season with 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, 70 total tackles and two pass deflections. The former Georgia linebacker wanted to (and did) strengthen his NFL draft stock at FSU. Johnson saw much more playing time for the Seminoles and proved to be an every down player.

Jermaine Johnson only recorded 14 total tackles and four sacks for Georgia in 2020. Johnson’s presence is still missed at Georgia. The Dawgs could use an elite pass rusher like Johnson, especially in Adam Anderson’s absence.

The Seminoles finished 5-7, but were much more competitive thanks to the impressive efforts of Johnson.

Jermaine Johnson is projected as a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

Despite Johnson’s transfer, the Georgia defense finished the 2021 regular season having allowed seven offensive touchdowns all season. Georgia finished the regular season as the top defense in college football. The Dawgs will face a strong challenge from Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Georgia facing former UGA WR Demetris Robertson

Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Demetris Robertson elected to transfer to the Auburn Tigers on July 8

Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Demetris Robertson elected to transfer to the Auburn Tigers on July 8. On Oct. 9, Robertson will face his former team.

The Savannah, Georgia, native signed with Georgia in 2018 after a pair of seasons at California. Robertson is a former elite recruit out of Savannah Christian.

Robertson saw limited playing time during his time in Athens. He chose to transfer to Auburn because he liked Auburn coach Bryan Harsin and had an opportunity to get more snaps. Robertson joined an Auburn receiving core that returned a total of 23 catches from their 2020 campaign.

Thus far, Demetris Robertson’s transfer to Auburn has gone as planned. The former Bulldog has 17 receptions, 215 total yards, and 3 touchdowns for the Tigers. He finished with only 110 receiving yards on 12 receptions for UGA in 2020.

Kearis Jackson, Jermaine Burton, Arian Smith and Adonai Mitchell were projected to compete with Robertson for playing time in 2021 at Georgia. During his Georgia career, Robertson hauled in 43 receptions for 443 yards with three receiving touchdowns.

Robertson’s transfer may have helped boost his NFL draft stock. He is getting more experience with Auburn.

Here’s a look back at Demetris Robertson’s thoughtful message when announced his transfer to Auburn via his Twitter account:

Demetris Robertson will be reunited with his former teammates on Oct. 9. He will be a key player for the Tigers to have success against an elite Georgia defense.
