Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Tyrique Stevenson, who transferred to the Miami Hurricanes, is declaring for the 2023 NFL draft.

Stevenson finished the 2022 college football season with 25 total tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections. Miami had a very disappointing 5-7 season, but Stevenson was one of the few brights spots on the Hurricanes.

During the 2020 season at Georgia, Stevenson saw action in all 10 games, leading the team in pass breakups and finishing 5th in tackles. Stevenson’s best play of the season came in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, when he defected a fourth down pass to give Georgia’s offense an opportunity to win the game.

Stevenson is a former four-star recruit out of Miami Southridge High School. The Miami defensive back announced that he would be entering the NFL draft via Twitter:

Former Georgia DB Tyrique Stevenson picks transfer destination

Former Georgia Bulldogs football star Tyrique Stevenson is transferring to the Miami Hurricanes football program.

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Tyrique Stevenson entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this offseason. Now, Stevenson is transferring to the Miami Hurricanes football program.

Last season at Georgia, Stevenson saw action in all 10 games, leading the team in pass breakups and finishing 5th in tackles. Stevenson’s best play of the season came in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, when he defected a fourth down pass to give Georgia’s offense an opportunity to win the game.

Stevenson’s transfer is a big loss for the Georgia secondary that is losing a lot of talent to the 2021 NFL Draft.  Defensive backs Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, Richard LeCounte and DJ Daniel have all declared for the draft.

Now, cornerbacks Kelee Ringo, Latavious Brini, Jalen Kimber, Ameer Speed, and Nyland Green will need to step up. Georgia fans should anticipate Kirby Smart pursuing a transfer at the position.

We wish Tyrique Stevenson luck with the Miami Hurricanes, where he should be an instant impact player. He’s former four-star recruit out of Miami Southridge High School in Miami. He wanted to be closer to home and now he gets his wish.

Georgia DB Tyrique Stevenson enters NCAA transfer portal

Georgia football star DB Tyrique Stevenson officially enters the NCAA transfer portal, will likely sign with Miami.

Star Georgia defensive back Tyrique Stevenson has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal this Monday.  Matt Zenitz of AL.com first reported the news, while Stevenson soon after took to Twitter to confirm the decision.

Stevenson tweeted a thank you video to UGA and then retweeted a 247Sports post about the breaking news just hours after.

All the Twitter buzz right now is leaning towards Stevenson signing with his hometown team, the Miami Hurricanes.  No official reports of that have come out yet but that is most likely where he will end up for the remainder of his college career.

In two seasons with the Bulldogs, Stevenson had 47 total tackles (31 solo), 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 10 pass deflections.  In 2019 he played in all 14 games, had 13 total stops, 5 pass breakups and 4 quarterback pressures, winning him Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors at the team’s post-season awards gala.

In 2020 Stevenson saw action in all 10 games, leading the team in pass breakups and finishing 5th in total stops.

This is a massive hit to the Georgia secondary that is already getting peppered by the 2021 NFL Draft.  Defensive backs Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell and DJ Daniel have all declared for the draft.  Stevenson was set to take on a massive leadership role for Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning and the Bulldog defense.

Kelee Ringo, Latavious Brini, Jalen Kimber, Ameer Speed, and Nyland Green will need to step up big time for the Dawgs secondary come the 2021 season.

Stevenson gave Dawg Nation a great two years, helping the Bulldogs capture a Sugar Bowl and a Peach Bowl.
