Wisconsin has a borderline top-10 transfer portal class after adding Tyrell Henry

The Wisconsin Badgers and head coach Luke Fickell are on a transfer portal blitz this month. Improving upon a disappointing 2023 season will be paramount, and key portal additions are necessary in making that the case.

The Badgers have six transfer commitments thus far, and it still is early in the process. Those are QB Tyler Van Dyke (Miami), EDGE John Pius (William & Mary), LS Cayson Pfeiffer (Cincinnati), OLB Leon Lowery (Syracuse), TE Jackson McGohan (LSU) and the new addition: WR Tyrell Henry (Michigan State).

That collection of talent, headlined by both Van Dyke as Pius as four-star portal recruits, is good enough to have Wisconsin at No. 11 in 247Sports’ transfer class rankings.

The current leaderboard:

  1. Colorado (10 commits, 88.30 average rating)
  2. South Carolina (7 commits, 88.86 average rating)
  3. Ole Miss (6 commits, 89.50 average rating)
  4. Louisville (7 commits, 88.29 average rating)
  5. Notre Dame (6 commits, 88.67 average rating)
  6. Kentucky (5 commits, 89.00 average rating)
  7. Arizona State (8 commits, 86.00 average rating)
  8. NC State (5 commits, 88.60 average rating)
  9. Texas Tech (7 commits, 86.83 average rating)
  10. TCU (6 commits, 88.40 average rating)
  11. Wisconsin (6 commits, 89.25 average rating)

It should be noted that while the Badgers rank No. 11, the class’ average rating sits behind just Ole Miss out of this top group.

No, this does not mean the roster is overhauled and the team will automatically be better next season. But it does signal Fickell recognizing the massive need at several positions, and an ability to get the job done (so far).

Wisconsin lands a high-ceiling transfer wide receiver

Wisconsin lands a high-ceiling transfer wide receiver

Wisconsin landed a commitment from former Michigan State transfer wide receiver Tyrell Henry yesterday.

The commitment is the Badgers’ sixth in the portal this cycle, and it should not be close to the last.

Henry was a three-star recruit in Michigan State’s class of 2022, ranked as the No. 90 wide receiver and No. 17 recruit from the state of Michigan. Wisconsin was not on his offer list, but Luke Fickell did extend an offer when he was still at Cincinnati.

The transfer wideout caught 24 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns this season, and also added 12 kick returns for 205 return yards and 13 punt returns for 89 punt return yards. He is an athlete that can make in impact immediately in Madison, whether it’s at wide receiver or on special teams.

The first thing on the list for Jonathan Smith upon arriving to East Lansing will be meeting with the current roster, and recruiting the current roster to stick around and not hit the transfer portal.

No one is denying that the Spartans have a plethora of young talent on the roster, with the past two recruiting classes being very good, and it will be imperative that Smith can keep that talent in East Lansing for his staff to develop.

Let’s take a look at ten players Michigan State and Coach Smith need to retain on the roster:

As the dust settles in the first weekend of college football, it is time dissect some of the things we saw. Most recently, Spartan fans are feeling a little down after former WR Keon Coleman had a big first game for Florida State in his debut. While not having Coleman isn’t ideal, it is not something Michigan State football fans should be extremely worried about.

Michigan State recruited a huge haul of wide receivers in the 2022 recruiting class, and with the trio still remaining at the school, having one year under their belt, they are poised to have a big season for Michigan State:
