Browns add speed to the offense in the second round of 2024 NFL Mock Draft

The Browns add much needed speed in 2024 mock draft

The Cleveland Browns are going back to the playoffs for the second time in the past four years under head coach Kevin Stefanski. Joe Flacco has the offense humming but with the return of Deshaun Watson next year the team could use some more speed at wide receiver. Could Texas speedster Xavier Worthy be the answer?

Hopefully, Amari Cooper is back in Cleveland and with Marquise Goodwin not working out adding speed in the second round makes the most sense to me. This is the draft to add talent to the wide receiver room as it is one of the deepest classes in recent memory.

There is some decent depth along the offensive line and the Browns could look to add there as well as injuries and age are adding up on the line. There are a ton of things that can change between now and the draft including free agency but here’s how I think the 2024 draft could go for Cleveland.

Georgia’s Tykee Smith names young CB as player to watch

CB battle: Julian Humphrey has impressed Tykee Smith this offseason…

Georgia football has a battle at cornerback as the Bulldogs prepare for the season opener on Saturday versus UT Martin.

Former Georgia starting cornerback Kelee Ringo is now a Philadelphia Eagle, which leaves an open spot opposite of returning starter Kamari Lassiter.

Third-year Georgia defensive back Tykee Smith praised redshirt freshman Julian Humphrey this week as a player that has impressed this offseason.

Somebody that’s been really coming along in camp, I think Julian Humphrey’s been having a real good camp, playing with the confidence level and then just being physically gifted that he is with him being able to run and look the part out there. Just trying to get him to keep coming along and help the team as best as possible. Looking forward to seeing him come along.

The former four-star was rated as the No. 13 cornerback and the No. 88 player overall in the 2022 recruiting class.

At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Humphrey has drawn praise for his physicality and work ethic, which are tools that head coach Kirby Smart values.

The competition includes Humphrey, sophomores Daylen Everette and Nyland Green, along with freshman A.J. Harris.

Smart told the media on Monday that the battle is still ongoing.

The other guys have all competed there, had really good competition between Nyland, AJ, Julian, and Daylen. They’ve all four taken reps and gotten work there. I don’t know that we’re ready to say anybody’s stood out, to be honest. We’ll have practices this week that are game speed, game-like. We may make a determination this week or a determination every game. But staying healthy, and all those guys have done a good job.

Georgia is returning a lot of talent in the cornerback room and it will be interesting to see who ends up starting opposite Kamari Lassiter.

Georgia Bulldogs spring practice injury report

A long list of injuries for Georgia this spring

Coming off of their first national title since 1980, the Georgia Bulldogs will be returning many of the key players from their 2021 championship team.

However, several stars and incoming recruits are expected to miss significant time during spring practice due to injury. While this does not mean that these players will not be ready come September 3 for Georgia’s opener against Oregon, their recoveries will be closely monitored as the season approaches.

Georgia football DB returning for another season

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Tykee Smith joins Christopher Smith as key secondary players to return for another season.

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Tykee Smith is returning for another season. Smith suffered a torn ACL in October and and was forced to miss  the rest of the 2021 college football season. Smith additionally battled a foot injury to start the season.

Smith transferred to the University of Georgia from West Virginia this offseason. He was just getting healthy before he tore his ACL in practice.

Smith, a junior, recorded three tackles against Auburn and will be able to redshirt this year. Smith is putting his NFL aspirations on hold. With a healthy 2022 season Smith will boost his NFL draft stock.

Smith entered the season ranked one of the top safeties in the country. He transferred to UGA partially to be reunited with Georgia defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, who was his former position coach at West Virginia.

Tykee Smith will counted on to start at safety or nickel for the Bulldogs in 2022 alongside Christopher Smith. Tykee Smith, Dan Jackson, David Daniel, Javon Bullard, and Kamari Lassiter are some of Georgia’s key returning players in the secondary. The Dawgs lost a few key pieces in the secondary to the transfer portal.

Key Georgia football DB tears ACL

Key Georgia football DB Tykee Smith tears ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The Georgia Bulldogs will be without defensive back Tykee Smith for the rest of the 2021 college football season. Smith transferred to the University of Georgia from West Virginia this offseason.

Tykee Smith has battled a foot injury to start the season. He was just getting healthy and then tore his ACL. Smith, a junior, recorded three tackles against Auburn and will be able to redshirt this year. Smith’s NFL aspirations may have to wait another season following his injury.

Tykee Smith had the difficult task of guarding explosive passing attack in the Big 12 last season, but he helped the Mountaineers have the top passing defense in the country.

Kirby Smart delivers good news on TE Darnell Washington, DB Tykee Smith

Kirby Smart: “Darnell and Tykee are back”

What if I told you Georgia, the No. 2 team in the nation, was about to get two of its best players back after missing the first four games of the year?

That would be pretty cool, right? Especially when the Dawgs are set to take on No. 8 ranked Auburn in a few days.

On Monday, Kirby Smart provided an injury update on tight end Darnell Washington and defensive back Tykee Smith, and it was music to Georgia fans’ ears.

“Darnell and Tykee are back,” Smart said.

“They’re back in drills, they’re practicing, they’re doing everything this week full go so hopefully we have them available.”

Both players have been since August. Both players underwent foot surgeries.

Smart said both players were hopeful they’d be able to return for the Vanderbilt game, but that did not happen. That’s probably a good thing, seeing as how Georgia won that game 62-0 without them.

Georgia injury report ahead of UGA vs UAB

Multiple Bulldogs, including star QB JT Daniels are dealing with injuries ahead of Georgia’s home opener vs. UAB….

Georgia football is set to take on UAB in the 2021 home opener in Athens on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. but some Bulldogs won’t be taking the field.

UGA has battled injuries throughout fall camp and into the Clemson matchup last Saturday night. The story is no different in week-two, as star quarterback J.T. Daniels is now nursing an upper body injury that may keep him sidelined versus the Blazers.

Early reports suggest an oblique strain or some kind of core injury, although coach Kirby Smart has not yet confirmed. Redshirt freshman Carson Beck received a large number of first-team reps at practice on Tuesday.

The offensive line took a hit this week as starting right guard Tate Ratledge underwent foot surgery and will miss the remainder of the season due to an injury suffered against Clemson.

At receiver, the Bulldogs are still missing star Dominick Blaylock, who is recovering from an ACL tear suffered last year. Smart said Blaylock is close to 100%. Kearis Jackson, the leading pass catcher a year ago, only returned punts against Clemson and is still not fully recovered from knee surgery this summer.

Fellow wideout George Pickens is still rehabbing from an ACL tear suffered in the spring, and LSU transfer Arik Gilbert is still not with the team due to a personal issue.

Tight end Darnell Washington and defensive back Tykee Smith are working their way back from foot surgeries done just a few weeks ago. Smart did say the two were at least moving around, suggesting they should be back at some point this season.

Here’s an updated look at Georgia’s injury report ahead of the matchup with UAB.

Injuries mount for Georgia football ahead of Clemson clash

Two key Dawgs underwent surgery today.

This is not the news Georgia fans want to hear. Multiple key Bulldogs have gone down with injuries just over two weeks until the Dawgs’ season-opening matchup versus No. 3 Clemson.

Here is the list of players that we know are recovering from injuries right now:

  • TE Darnell Washington (foot)
  • DB Tykee Smith (foot/ankle)
  • C Warren Ericson (hand)
  • CB Jalen Kimber (shoulder)
  • WR Arik Gilbert (personal)
  • TE John FitzPatrick (foot)
  • OL Owen Condon (Unknown)
  • WR Dominick Blaylock (ACL)
  • WR George Pickens (ACL)

Sophomore phenom tight end Darnell Washington and star West Virginia transfer Tykee Smith went down with foot injuries in practice this week. DawgNation and The Athletic reported today that both underwent surgeries on Thursday and the time table for a return is really just a guess right now but will likely be at least three weeks.

Kirby released a statement on Wednesday regarding the two stars,

“Darnell Washington and Tykee Smith sustained foot injuries during practice this week,” Smart said. “They are both undergoing treatment and have an excellent prognosis. Their status is day to day.”

247Sports reported the return could be three to four weeks

We still don’t know when LSU transfer Arik Gilbert will be back with the team. He’s been away from the program for the last couple of weeks due to personal reasons. His addition into the lineup could be huge for the Bulldogs offense if Washington and junior John Fitzpatrick aren’t able to go.

A positive note at tight end is freshman Brock Bowers, who’s reportedly been very impressive at camp so far.

A couple of guys who are not listed here but have been working their way back from injuries suffered earlier in fall camp are slot receiver Jermaine Burton and the leading pass catcher from a year ago, Kearis Jackson. Both have been nursing lower body injuries but are around 90% back and should be able to go for Clemson.

UGA fans have every right to be nervous about the injury bug hitting so soon, but remember the talent that this Georgia offense has on the outside even with guys missing.

Freshmen Arian Smith, Adonia Micthell and Justin Robinson have all turned heads at camp. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken mentioned Mitchell and Smith in a post-practice presser last week.

“Arian Smith has a unique skill set; he can really run and is developing other aspects of his game,” Monken said. “He’s really quick and twitchy, and not really someone who is a straight-line track guy, but there are days that he flashes…but there’s also Adonai Mitchell, who we think is going to be a tremendous player here.”

Bulldog fans, players giving Pace ‘hell’

There has always been a lot of cross over between Clemson and Georgia in terms of recruiting which fuels the bitterness between the two schools on the gridiron. Only 73 miles separate Clemson, S.C. and Athens, Ga. and both the Tigers and Bulldogs …

There has always been a lot of cross over between Clemson and Georgia in terms of recruiting which fuels the bitterness between the two schools on the gridiron.

Only 73 miles separate Clemson, S.C. and Athens, Ga. and both the Tigers and Bulldogs recruit the same areas.

Clemson running back Kobe Pace hails from one of those areas in Cedartown, Georgia north of Atlanta.

After the Tigers’ first day in full pads at Jervey Meadows on Thursday the sophomore pointed out that Bulldog fans and players blow up his phone on a daily basis in anticipation of the renewal of the Clemson-Georgia rivalry in Charlotte on Sept. 4.

“Actually yeah, I get a lot of texts everyday talking about the game,” Pace said. “But I just put my phone down and keep working because I know what’s going to happen on September 4.”

The sophomore is in the midst of a heated competition at running back with Lyn-J Dixon, Darien Rencher, Phil Mafah and Will Shipley.

Pace noted that a couple guys giving him the most grief play defense for the Bulldogs in junior defensive back Tykee Smith who transferred from West Virginia and senior linebacker Adam Anderson.

But he went on to joke that they didn’t say anything that would harm him they just tell him to ‘be ready.’

“I have a lot of guys on the other side at Georgia so they text me and give me hell,” Pace said.

Three Georgia players go in 2-round 2022 NFL mock draft

Georgia football has three players selected in this 2022 NFL mock draft.

Georgia football had three players selected in Pro Football Network’s 2-round 2022 NFL mock draft.

Out of the three, two were selected in the first round.

The first player off the board is transfer cornerback Derion Kendrick, who goes at No. 13 to the Arizona Cardinals.

Off-field issues aside, Kendrick has landed at Georgia and will be eligible to play to start the season with the Dawgs. Arizona drafted three defensive backs in 2021 but none higher than the fourth round and neither with more upside than Tay Gowan. With that in mind, there’s still the need for a shutdown cornerback in the desert.

Kendrick can be that shutdown corner in the mold of a former SEC-to-Arizona defensive back. At 6’0″, 190 pounds, Kendrick has solid size for the position and incredible athleticism. A converted wide receiver, his skills at the catch point are unrivaled in this draft class.

His potential is seemingly unlimited at this point of his career, and with the way this 2022 NFL Mock Draft has unfolded, he’s too good to pass up here.

Kendrick is projected to start as the No. 1 cornerback in Dan Lanning’s defensive scheme this season. Kendrick transferred to Georgia from Clemson this offseason. He will face his former team to open the season.

Kendrick is a former five-star recruit who began his college football career at wide receiver. Kendrick transitioned to cornerback as a sophomore.

At No. 14 overall goes quarterback JT Daniels to the Washington Football Team.

His lack of mobility may scare some, but J.T. Daniels has every throw in his arsenal for the next level. Catching fire once he was fully cleared to play, Daniels averaged over 300 yards per game in just four starts last season with Georgia.

Daniels is a progressive thrower with unique angles and all-around arm talent. He’ll make the correct read more often than not. He has some of the best awareness in the pocket in this draft class. Accuracy is a plus with his arm. He has a penchant for throwing receivers open and finding spots where only his receiver can make the play.

Daniels looks ready to lead the Bulldogs in 2021 and he should be one of the nation’s top quarterbacks at the end of the season.

He had a phenomenal first year with Georgia, throwing for 1,231 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions in four games.

Everything seemed to click when Daniels lined up under center, and years of built-up frustration with the Georgia offense began to slip away.

And in the second round, at No. 53 overall, is Georgia transfer defensive back Tykee Smith to the Dallas Cowboys.

The term “flex defender” was made for Tykee Smith. A West Virginia transfer, Smith jumped to Georgia for the chance to play on the national stage and test himself against some of the nation’s best in coverage. He’s a short safety who lays the lumber, possesses the instincts of a tremendous linebacker, and the coverage ability of a sticky man corner. What’s not to like?

Smith transferred to the University of Georgia from West Virginia this offseason. Smith is considered one of the top safeties in the country. He is reunited with Georgia defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, his former position coach at West Virginia.

Smith will be counted on to start at safety or nickel for the Bulldogs in 2021 alongside Christopher Smith and Lewis Cine.
