WATCH: WR Ty Fryfogle reels in picturesque pass from Shane Buechele

Ty Fryfogle made an incredible catch at the #Chiefs’ Wednesday practice session, hauling in a well-placed pass from Shane Buechele.

Ty Fryfogle made the play of the day at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Wednesday practice session, making an absolutely superb catch that is sure to be on his highlight reel for a long time.

Quarterback Shane Buechele targeted him deep downfield during throwing drills despite tight coverage from defensive back Lamar Jackson, who couldn’t do anything but look up in amazement as Fryfogle dove to secure the ball and casually bounced up to trot toward the endzone.

The spectacular play was featured on the Chiefs’ official Twitter account, which posted a video of the catch shortly after the conclusion of Wednesday’s workout.

Fryfogle has proven to be an underrated asset for Kansas City’s second and third-team offensive units but faces an uphill battle to make the Chiefs’ final roster despite highlight reel plays like this at training camp.

However, other teams around the league are sure to take notice of his incredible catchings and ability to come down with balls against tight coverage, which could be enough to get him on the field with a receiver-needy team in 2023.

Chiefs to sign former Indiana WR Ty Fryfogle on reserve/future contract

The #Chiefs are reported to have made their first reserve/future signing after hosting WR Ty Fryfogle on a successful tryout on Monday.

We have the first official report of the Kansas City Chiefs signing a player to a reserve/future contract for the 2023 NFL season.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Chiefs are signing former Indiana WR Ty Fryfogle to a reserve/future deal. Fryfogle signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022, but he was waived with an undisclosed injury back in August. He landed on injured reserve before coming to terms with the Cowboys on an injury settlement.

Fryfogle was among the several players the team hosted for tryouts on Monday, including former Alabama WR Slade Bolden and BC Lions QB Nathan Rourke.

In his five-year career with the Hoosiers, the 6-1 and 206-pound receiver appeared in 45 games. Fryfogle recorded 158 catches for over, 2,200 yards, and 14 touchdowns during that span.

If you’re unfamiliar with reserve/future contracts, here is an explanation from our primer:

Players signed on (reserve/future) deals won’t count toward the team’s current active roster while they play in the postseason this year. When the 90-man offseason roster opens up at the beginning of the new league year in March, players signed to reserve/future contracts will officially be considered members of the team.

Expect more reserve/future signings from the Chiefs in the coming days now that they’re permitted.

Packers to work out rookie WR Ty Fryfogle on Tuesday

The Packers will work out free agent rookie WR Ty Fryfogle (Indiana) on Tuesday, per NFL Network.

Rookie wide receiver Ty Fryfogle will be among the group of players working out for the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

The Packers, like many teams, often conduct workouts for players on Tuesday, the typical off day in the league.

Fryfogle (6-1, 204) went undrafted out of Indiana in 2022. He caught 158 passes for 2,231 yards and 10 touchdowns in 53 career games for the Hoosiers.

After going undrafted, Fryfogle signed with the Dallas Cowboys in May. He spent most of the offseason and part of training camp with Dallas but was waived after suffering a hamstring injury in mid-August.

Now healthy, Fryfogle could be a practice squad candidate for the Packers, especially if Randall Cobb is placed on injured reserve and Juwann Winfree is signed from the practice squad. General manager Brian Gutekunst has a roster spot open after placing Tipa Galeai on injured reserve, but it’s possible that running back Kylin Hill (PUP) or receiver Sammy Watkins (IR) could take the roster spot this week.

Fryfogle is unlikely to be a 53-man roster candidate, but his college performance – particularly in 2020 – is intriguing. During his junior season at Indiana, Fryfogle caught 37 passes for 721 yards and seven scores, including a three-game stretch against Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State in which he caught 25 passes for 560 yards and six scores.

Fryfogle ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds, hit 39″ in the vertical leap and covered 10-7 in the broad jump at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.

Cowboys make 5 cuts, including spring FA signing, to get down to 85 players

UDFA WR Ty Fryfogle was among the Cowboys’ Monday cuts with an injury designation; he could revert to IR if he goes unclaimed. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys had until Tuesday afternoon to trim down their roster by five players.

They apparently made up their minds early.

The club has already informed the five cuts of their fate, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Cornerback Kyron Brown, fullback Ryan Nall, tight end Ian Bunting, undrafted rookie wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, and defensive tackle Austin Faoliu will reportedly be cleaning out their lockers.

Only Faoliu was waived outright. Brown, Nall, Bunting, and Fryfogle are being let go, though, with injury designations. If they go unclaimed by another team, they will revert to injured reserve.

The Cowboys technically stand at 86 total players, as offensive lineman Isaac Alarcón does not count toward the official roster due to his international exemption.

The team must get down to 81 players by Aug. 23.

Projecting where ten former Big Ten wide receivers might go in the 2022 NFL draft

Projecting where ten former Big Ten wide receivers might go in the 2022 NFL draft #GoBucks #NFLDraft

Welcome to April. It’s officially NFL draft month and with every passing day, we get closer and closer to seeing some former college football stars get paid and possibly become stars. I wanted to take a deep dive into the majority of the familiar names from the Big Ten in the upcoming draft class.

Today I take a look at the former Big Ten wide receivers that could hear their names called during the 2022 NFL draft and try to project which round they may get taken in. This year there are many former Big Ten wide receivers in the class that have the skill and goods to make it at the next level.

So, let’s get to all the fun.

Rams 2022 Draft Prospect Profile: Ty Fryfogle (WR, Indiana)

Ty Fryfogle could be a late-round target for the Rams if they want to add depth at wide receiver

The Los Angeles Rams possess one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL with Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson, and Van Jefferson. Plus, all signs point toward Odell Beckham Jr. potentially returning to the Rams in 2022 after undergoing surgery on his torn ACL recently.

That being said, it remains to be seen if Los Angeles elects to trust Tutu Atwell and Ben Skowronek as depth options at the wide receiver position next season. If the Rams aren’t confident in either of them being able to contribute to the offense, then they could add a wideout in the latter portion of the 2022 NFL draft.

To complete my pre-draft profiles for wide receivers that the Rams could potentially select in the upcoming draft, I’ll be taking a look at Ty Fryfogle out of Indiana.

Mock draft watch: Browns land Big Ten standouts in Draft Wire’s early 2-round projection

Draft Wire’s 2-rounder lands the Browns a pair of B1G talents

Summer is the season of the too-early mock draft. Our friends at Draft Wire have baked up their latest edition for the 2022 NFL draft, and the two rounds of projections restock the Browns with a couple of prospects from the Big Ten conference.

The order of the picks is based on the current Super Bowl odds. That leaves the Browns selecting at No. 26 overall in the first round and No. 58 in the second.

With the first-round pick, Draft Wire editor Luke Easterling projects Michigan defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson to the Browns. An EDGE with impressive physical traits, Hutchinson is looking to bounce back from a 2020 where he managed just three games before suffering a major knee injury. He strongly considered entering the 2021 draft early but opted for another year of Michigan football.

Indiana wide receiver Ty Fryfogle gets the nod with the second-round pick. The conference’s wide receiver of the year in 2020, Fryfogle is a long target with hyper-sticky hands and great body control.

Mock drafts at this time of the year are all about determining the names to watch in the coming season and matching them with relative need by the teams.

A look at the Big Ten leaders in touchdown receptions in 2020

In fact, Ferguson was one of the only tight ends to make the top 15 in touchdown receptions in the Big Ten in 2020. The Madison, Wisconsi…

Although much of Wisconsin’s receiving core battled injuries last season, tight end Jake Ferguson remained a consistent target for redshirt freshman quarterback Graham Mertz. Ferguson may not have had his stats from a typical season, but he was the number one option for Wisconsin in the passing game last year.

In fact, Ferguson was one of the only tight ends to make the top 15 in touchdown receptions in the Big Ten in 2020. The Madison, Wisconsin, native’s consistent presence in the passing game has helped multiple Wisconsin quarterbacks adjust to playing in the Big Ten over his Badger career, and it will be a welcome sight to see him returning alongside Mertz next season.

Below is the ranking of the top 15 players in touchdown receptions from the Big Ten Conference 2020 season. Players from Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Rutgers made the rankings.

Wisconsin is heavily favored against Indiana according to BetMGM

According to BetMGM, the Wisconsin Badgers open as heavy favorites for Saturday’s game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

According to BetMGM, the Wisconsin Badgers open as heavy favorites for Saturday’s game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Wisconsin opens as 13.5 point favorites to the Hoosiers, with a moneyline set at -371. This means that a $371 dollar bet on the Badgers to win, would net you $100 dollars in profit. Indiana opens as a +290 underdog.

Indiana has looked phenomenal early on the season but lost their star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for the year in last weekend’s game against the Maryland Terrapins. This will tremendously impact the Hoosiers offense that has relied heavily on the playmaking of Penix Jr. and receiver Ty Fryfogle. The Badgers will also likely be getting more key players back from the mandatory 21-day protocol for COVID-19 set by the Big Ten.

These factors have caused the odds of this game to open significantly in favor of Wisconsin, even though Indiana has opened the season at 5-1, with the Hoosiers’ only loss coming in a hard-fought game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ohio State vs. Indiana 2020 Football Preview And Prediction

It’s the first time Ohio State and Indiana will match up as top-ten opponents. See our keys to the game and how we see it playing out.

Raise your hand if you thought Indiana would be the biggest test of the Big Ten season for Ohio State. Yeah, me either, and yet here we are. What head coach Tom Allen has done there in Bloomington is quite amazing. And it’s all been done relatively quietly in the Big Ten East division.

The Hoosiers come to town this weekend and it marks the first time in the nearly 120 year history of Ohio State vs. Indiana football games that the teams will face each other as top-ten opponents. The Hoosiers are right at No. 10 in the latest Amway Coaches Poll Powered by USA TODAY sports, and a spot higher (at No. 9) in the AP Poll.

Let’s get ready for the game of the century! Well… not quite… but you understand. At least we hope to be able to watch some football with a Scarlet and Gray hue to it this weekend as opposed to last Saturday.
