John Daly after being Trump’s guest at debate: ‘He’s like me and Jesus’

John Daly was at the second and final presidential debate on Thursday and caught up with USA TODAY Sports during the after party.

On Thursday night, after attending the second and final presidential debate, golfer John Daly was willing to answer questions about the experience. Only one problem:

“At after party loud as (expletive) kid rock singing,’’ he texted.

So the texting continued with the colorful, two-time major winner who is a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.

Before Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden took the stage at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., Daly and Kid Rock created a small stir when they took their seats inside the Curb Event Center, where the debate was held.

Daly, who showed up in a red-white-and-blue, stars-and-stripes blazer, said he was there at the invitation of the president.

“Trump is my friend I’ve known since 92 so I call him DADDY TRUMP,” Daly texted.

Before the debate, Daly said, he “got to hang’’ with the president for about 10 minutes.

“He…praised me so nice at roundtable in front of some great business people raised at least 8 million today so cool.’’

What were the highlights of Trump’s remarks at the roundtable?

“His love for our country he just wants to help people.’’

Daly did not sound concerned how Trump’s remarks might sit with a divided country.

“He’s the president if 51 percent love him than he’s awesome which he is.’’

And Daly’s prediction for Election Day on Nov. 3?

“Trump wins and it ends cause he’s like me and Jesus we love everyone.’’

Warriors to open facilities in the Bay Area to serve as polling sites for the November election

The Golden State Warriors will open their facilities across the Bay Area to serve as polling locations for the 2020 general election.

On Friday, the Golden State Warriors announced the opening of different Bay Area locations for the 2020 general election.

In November, the Warriors will open their facilities in Oakland, Santa Cruz and San Francisco to serve as polling sites for election day. The team’s Oakland facility and their G League affiliate’s home in Santa Cruz will serve as a polling site and ballot drop-off location on Nov. 3.

Chase Center’s outdoor location “Thrive City” in San Francisco will be accepting drop off ballots from Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

Following the NBA strike in the Orlando Bubble after the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, players demanded league arenas be used as polling posts for the 2020 general election.

Members of the Golden State Warriors have been active leading up to November’s election. In a virtual message with their family, Stephen and Ayesha Curry endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention. Curry’s teammate Draymond Green joined the LeBron James led “More Than a Vote” initiative.

The Warriors are currently in competition with the Atlanta Hawks with “Voters Win.” The two franchises are competing to see who can get the most members from their fanbase pledging to vote on election day.

President Donald Trump shows supports to #WeWantToPlay

Players have tweeted out ‘#WeWantToPlay’, in response to season cancelations. President Trump showed his support for the movement on Monday.

College football has been a circus in the past 24 hours, with rumors of the Power Five conferences canceling their seasons. In response, players from across the country have tweeted out ‘#WeWantToPlay’, showing their desire to have a 2020 college football season.

It began with Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence and has spread throughout the entire country. Texas players such as Caden Sterns and D’Shawn Jamison have show support for the movement.

The biggest endorsement of all came on Monday afternoon when President Trump quote tweeted Lawrence’s original tweet. Support from such a figure such as the president will massively help the players, coaches, and administration who are in favor of having a football season of sorts.

The student-athletes have been working too hard for their season to be canceled. #WeWantToPlay,” said President Trump.

There is still a long way to go for college football to happen this season. The players involved with #WeWantToPlay are giving it their best shot, outlining guidelines for how it can be done.

Even if it takes Texas joining another conference for one season, the Longhorns seem committed to playing their 2020 season for now. However, things can always change at the snap of a finger.

LOOK: President Trump shows support to college football players

many players and coaches have tweeted #WeWantToPlay, and so has President Trump who tweeted in support of the college football players.

Over the past 24 hours, the hashtag #WeWantToPlay has gone viral, and for good reason. The hashtag, which was started by Clemson star quarterback, Trevor Lawrence has taken over Twitter, and has started many conversations about the possibility of a football season this fall.

College football players all over the country have been expressing their desire to play this season, even with news surfacing that the Big 10 and Pac 12 will be cancelling their season. Many players have shared how important this season is, how it will affect their career in the NFL, and how much safer they are by being a part of the football program.

But it’s not just players who have been using the hashtag, many coaches have as well, and so has President Trump who tweeted in support of the college football players.

This reminds me of an article written about college football season in 1918 during the Spanish Flu.

“While there were some who felt college football should completely shut down because of the pandemic, President Woodrow Wilson felt that football added to the overall morale of the country. As a result, football teams were created at various military posts around the country and actually played against established college teams.”

Many feel the same way, including Trump.

Over the next few days, the fate of college football season will come to life.

At this point, it might just the SEC and one or two more conferences, or it might just be the SEC.

Is it worth it? Maybe so.

And could the SEC have its own playoff with the top two teams in the East and in the West?

There’s a lot of unknowns still needing to be answered, but at least we know there’s one conference still fighting to games to be played this fall: the SEC.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey flies Trump flag on boat and fans go nuts

Maurkice Pouncey enjoyed a relaxing day on the water but fans aren’t happy about it.

[jwplayer 8AaieeRS-ThvAeFxT]

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey decided to do a little social distancing on his boat in Miami this week. This by itself would be no big deal. He shared the video on social media and it was captured by multiple other accounts.

But where he got himself in some hot water with the fans was by flying what appears to be a Trump 2020 flag on his boat. This is of course in reference to President Donald Trump and the upcoming presidential election.

All you have to do is read through the comments of the above tweet to understand just how polarizing Pouncey’s choice of a flag was to the fanbase.

It’s unfortunate fans feel the need to pass judgment so harshly on athletes for something as simple as political affiliation but this is the world we live in. You can bet Pouncey doesn’t care as he’s been one of the most outspoken members of the Steelers during his career and he didn’t share the video without knowing there would be backlash.

John Daly urges people to drink vodka to cure coronavirus

In a video posted by The Trump Organization, golfer John Daly claims he has a cure for COVID-19 that will help golfers play sooner.

In a recent video posted to YouTube, John Daly comes across as either drunk or just ignorant to the facts of the coronavirus pandemic. Or maybe he’s making a lame attempt at humor. It’s hard to tell.

Daly claims he has a cure for COVID-19 that will help us “get over this thing pretty soon and we’ll get back out playing a lot more golf” in a 50-second video shared by The Trump Organization on April 9.

“I only drink one drink a day, it just happens to be a bottle of good old Belvedere,” Daly said while holding the clear bottle of vodka up toward the camera. “Just drink one of these a day. You know, sippy, sippy on a McDonald’s diet Coke ya know, wash it down pretty good. Never have a hangover.

“And that’s the way you kill this coronavirus I believe. But ya’ll be safe, take care and hopefully we’ll be getting back to the things we do best pretty soon.”

Actually, the World Health Organization says alcohol may put people at increased risk of contracting the coronavirus.

The 53-year-old is a two-time major champion who competes on the PGA Tour Champions. He has struggled with health issues and alcohol addiction throughout his career.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADpkIYLYoOg]

Last year he applied and was approved to use a cart at the PGA Championship through the Americans with Disabilities Act, citing arthritis in his right knee. Five years ago Daly suffered from a collapsed lung and was hospitalized, later quipping that doctors thought he had a heart attack. “But I only smoke two packs of cigarettes a day, not three.”

The video posted by The Trump Organization, which says it’s the “most globally recognized business brand in luxury real estate, golf, hospitality & entertainment founded by Donald J. Trump,” appears at first to be Daly’s pitch for the president’s golf clubs. Daly has played golf with him while Trump has been in office, calling last year’s outing at the president’s Bedminster club in New Jersey, “one of the greatest days of my life.”

In his message, Daly tells people to “be healthy, be smart, and hopefully we’ll get over this thing pretty soon and we’ll get back out playing a lot more golf and everybody go back to work.”

President Trump is hopeful football season will start on time

according to ESPN, President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September.

On Saturday morning, President Trump had a conference call with major league sports commissioners and according to ESPN, “President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September.”

The call included 12 major sports commissioners and top executives, including the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NHL, Major League Soccer, WNBA, WWE Wrestling, the PGA Tour, UFC, IndyCar, LPGA, and Breeders Cup, according to a White House pool report.

This news comes as the coronavirus has taken the world by storm cancelling all NCAA spring sports, the 2020 Olympics, suspended the NBA season, and has even delayed the start of MLB, NHL and more.

“Trump also said he hopes to have fans back in stadiums and arenas by August and September, sources said, though it is currently unclear if medical experts find that to be a realistic timeline amid the current coronavirus pandemic.”

And according to the report, Trump is also trying to come up with ways for fans to be able to attend games and events in the current economy:

“Trump also raised the idea of the leagues working together to lobby for tax credits that used to exist for entertainment expenses, such as the ability to deduct concessions and tickets from taxes, sources said. That would be a way for leagues to jumpstart fans’ ability to return to stadiums in a difficult economy.”

Although the future is full of uncertainty, this news at least brings a dose of hope as sports fans all over the world have been missing watching their favorite sports.

The NFL Draft is still scheduled to take place from April 23-25th, although it will be a virtual draft.

Fans, prospects and their families will not be present at the draft.

Bob Arum on why cards at Madison Square Garden were canceled

Bob Arum of Top Rank eventually decided to cancel the Shakur Stevenson and Mick Conlan cards at Madison Square Garden because fighters…

It came down to one question: Can fighters be tested for the ever-expanding coronavirus?

Ultimately, the answer was a no. So on Thursday promoter Top Rank and New York City’s Madison Square Garden decided to pull the plug on both the Shakur Stevenson-Miguel Marriaga and Mick Conlan-Belmar Preciado cards that were scheduled to take place today and Tuesday, respectively, at MSG’s Hulu Theater.

Initially, both Top Rank and MSG decided to carry on with both cards without a live audience, inviting only relevant staff and media. That fulfilled the criterion laid down by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who announced a ban on gatherings larger than 500 people. Stevenson-Marriaga was scheduled to be featured on ESPN, Conaln-Preciado on ESPN+.

But with nearly the entire American sporting scene moving to suspend seasons outright – from professional and collegiate basketball to hockey, soccer and baseball – there was pressure for boxing to do the same. Then, of course, there was the question of testing. Or rather, the inability to do so.

That was the final nail in the coffin, according to Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.

“We were consulting the whole time with the New York State Athletic Commission,” Arum told SiriusXM. “They correctly brought in their medical staff and their advisers, and they said we would advise you to not go ahead [with the two shows] because who is going to test the fighters? And if a fighter has the virus, he could easily transmit it to his opponent, who might not have it, because they’re in very, very close contact.”

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 testing is only available for those who have received doctor’s orders or “have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or if you live in or have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19.”

Fighters who show no apparent symptoms, therefore, would not be eligible to get tested.

Arum had hoped that the shows could go on, given how much preparation and investment are made into one-off events like boxing.

“We have an obligation to these young men, to these fighters, who work like a bastard to get ready for a fight,” Arum said. “The last thing we wanted to do is pull the plug so we figured we could apply with the New York State rule, no more than (500) people in a room, and do the fight without an audience. No media, no nothing, just the television. And it looked like we could get that done.

“I mean it was a big sacrifice for us to lose the gate, but at least the fights [could go] on.”

But with no ability to test for the coronavirus, the fights, ultimately, were a moot point.
