Warriors waive Mac McClung and Trevion Williams

After waiving Mac McClung and Trevion Williams, the Warriors will reportedly add Ty Jerome to a training camp contract.

After two preseason games and a trip to Japan, the Golden State Warriors are making some changes to their training camp roster.

On Monday, the team announced they would waive guard Mac McClung and Trevion Williams.

On Saturday at Saitama Super Arena in Japan, McClung tallied nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field with two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 12 minutes. All of McClung’s points came in the fourth quarter of Golden State’s 104-95 win. McClung didn’t record a minute in the Warriors’ preseason opener on Friday.

Williams notched two points on 1-of-3 shooting from the floor with six rebounds and two assists in nine minutes off the bench against the Wizards on Saturday. The undrafted rookie free agent out of Purdue played three minutes on Friday against the Wizards, hitting a single 3-pointer for three points.

Jerome was recently waived by the Houston Rockets after being traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder. During his three-year career, Jerome has averaged 7.1 points on 37.8% shooting from the floor with 2.3 assists and 1.6 rebounds per contest.

Jerome will get the chance to compete for the Warriors’ 15th and final roster spot with three preseason games remaining before the regular season tips off.

Warriors to sign undrafted Trevion Williams to Exhibit 10 contract

Williams averaged 7.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Former Purdue center Trevion Williams will reportedly sign an Exhibit 10 contract with the Golden State Warriors, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Williams, who went undrafted last month, was named the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 12 points, 7.4 rebounds and three assists as a senior. He was the only player in the last 30 years to reach those numbers in less than 25 minutes per game.

The 21-year-old played with the Boston Celtics in the Las Vegas Summer League. He averaged 7.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in five games on 45.7% shooting from the field. He had his best game on July 14 with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Williams is expected to have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot with the Warriors in training camp. The team currently has 11 guaranteed contracts on the books for next season, leaving the opportunity open for Williams to claim a role off the bench.

Report: Warriors sign undrafted rookie Trevion Williams to Exhibit 10 deal

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly added an undrafted rookie center with an Exhibit 10 contract.

While the free agent market might be winding down, the Golden State Warriors are getting active. After bringing players like Mac McClung and JaMychal Green to the team before training camp, the Warriors reportedly added an undrafted rookie to the roster.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors have agreed to a contract with Trevion Williams. The former Purdue center’s contract with the Warriors will be an Exhibit 10 deal, per Charania.

Via @ShamsCharania on Twitter:

The 21-year-old big man spent four years in West Lafayette with the Boilermakers, averaging 10.8 points on 53.1% shooting from the field with 7.0 rebounds over 130 career games. In his final season at Purdue, Williams played alongside top-pick Jaden Ivey, averaging 12.0 points on 54.7% shooting from the floor with 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 20.1 minutes per contest.

After going undrafted, Williams spent Summer League with the Boston Celtics. In five games with Boston in Las Vegas, the 6-foot-10 center tallied 7.4 points on 45.7% shooting from the floor with 6.6 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game.

Williams will now have the chance to battle for a roster spot in Golden State at training camp. Williams will have the chance to add to the Warriors’ frontcourt with veteran Kevon Looney and third-year big James Wiseman.

Celtics summer league fan favorite Trevion Williams signs Exhibit 10 deal with Warriors

Boston’s backup center in Las Vegas Summer League action will compete to make a regular roster spot with Golden State.

Fans of undrafted Purdue big man Trevion Williams who were hoping to see the center make the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate in Portland (the Maine Celtics — formerly Red Claws) will be disappointed to learn that appears to be off of the table with The Athletic NBA Insider Shams Charania reporting that Williams will be signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the Golden State Warriors in an effort to compete for a roster spot with the Dubs.

Williams, who recorded a solid 7.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over 14.2 minutes per game for the Celtics in Las Vegas Summer League action this month, attracted the attention of Celtics fans with his impressive court vision and passing and his ability to bring the ball up the court.

If he ever does end up in green and white, he’ll need to make the league first — and with the Warriors, he appears to have a (slightly) clearer path than on Boston’s stacked roster.

Trevion Williams Boston Celtics Las Vegas Summer League highlights vs. Memphis Grizzlies (7/14)

Trevion Williams has been a mix of spectacular passes, surprising ballhandling skills, and some expected mistakes in summer league play so far.

Though we have not seen much of him in Las Vegas Summer League so far, in the short bursts we have seen big man Trevion Williams, he has been a mix of spectacular passes, surprising ballhandling skills, and some mistakes that make even casual fans wince. The rawness of his game was expected, though, and the flashes he makes as a unique big man may be enough to earn him a two way deal with the Boston Celtics.

His best game yet in the annual Sin City exhibition series came in a 108-91 blowout of the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday that saw the Purdue product put up 11 points and as many rebounds with 3 assists and a steal for good measure while shooting a very good 5-of-6 from the field and 1-of-2 from beyond the arc.

If you missed his play against Memphis or just want another look before the team’s last contest of summer league play in 2022 against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night, check out the clip embedded below to see Williams’ best plays against the Griz courtesy of YouTuber Tomasz Kordylewski.

Which Las Vegas Summer Celtics deserve to make Boston’s 2022-23 roster?

Which players deserve to make the roster?

Which of the players currently suiting up for the Boston Celtics in Las Vegas Summer League might be on the regular season version of the Celtics come opening night this fall? The Celtics will very likely have both forward Sam Hauser and recently-drafted point guard JD Davison in the fold given they are on a regular and two way deal respectively, but from there, the picture gets fuzzier.

Previous two way prospects Matt Ryan and Brodric Thomas may have an inside track with their knowledge of the system (especially after Ryan’s dramatic game-winner). Big men Mfiondu Kabengele and Trevion Williams flash potential for the Celtics at a position of need. Will one or more of them end up on the 2022-23 roster in any capacity?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “A-List” podcast got together to debate precisely this topic among many on a recent episode.

Check out the clip embedded above to see what the trio had to say.

B/R analyst rates Boston Celtics camp invitee Trevion Williams 5th-best undrafted 2022 prospect

Is the big man’s unorthodox passing game a good fit for the Celtics?

There is a palpable buzz building around the NBA potential of undrafted big man Trevion Williams, who is likely hours away from making his Las Vegas Summer League debut with the Boston Celtics‘ Sin City squad. The Purdue product’s passing and court vision is already earning him praise from fellow Summer Celtics and Boston assistant coach Ben Sullivan, the team’s head coach for the annual Nevada exhibition series.

And that is not so surprising to established scholars of the NBA prospect game like Bleacher Report’s Ben Wasserman, who rates Williams as the No. 5 undrafted prospect from the 2022 draft — it seems Boston may very well have stumbled onto some found gold in the Purdue product.

“Scouts have had trouble picturing a fit with Trevion Williams, a 265-pound big who doesn’t shoot or offer much defensive value,” wrote Wasserman, acknowledging how he managed to slip out of the second round and into Boston’s camp rotation.

Lauded for his passing, Sin City Celtics big man Trevion Williams getting increasing buzz ahead of Las Vegas Summer League

The undrafted big man could play his way onto Boston’s roster if his play translates well in Las Vegas.

There is growing buzz that undrafted big man Trevion Williams could make the Boston Celtics‘ roster for the coming 2022-23 NBA season with the team needing a sturdy presence in the paint to help eat minutes for veterans Al Horford and Robert Williams III in the regular season.

The Purdue product has been turning heads with his ability to move the rock, with Celtics assistant and Las Vegas Summer League head coach Ben Sullivan recently relating that “the first thing that stood out is his passing.” Describing the Purdue product as “a willing passer” with the vision to “see the whole floor with his size and touch and feel,” Sullivan was impressed with Williams.

That sentiment was echoed by Sin City teammate Sam Hauser, who said that since he arrived in Boston, he’s “made his teammates better” with his passing.

“There were a couple of times he was looking the other way and threw it to a different guy that he wasn’t looking at, right in the shooting pocket for the 3,” Hauser added. “He’s going to have a real impact in these games coming up.”

FULL 2022 Boston Celtics Las Vegas Summer League roster announced

On Tuesday, the Celtics announced their full Las Vegas Summer League roster.

As has been the annual tradition (save of course for the height of the pandemic), the Boston Celtics are assembling a Las Vegas Summer League squad to get in some run at the 2022 Sin City exhibition series, and on Tuesday morning, the team announced their full roster for the Nevada friendlies we all love to put far too much stock into.

There were plenty of familiar faces assigned to it we expected to be on the summer league team, a stashed floor general making the trip back stateside for another go at making a roster spot in the NBA, and a few new names to learn more about in the coming days and weeks.

Let’s see who will be this year’s Vegas Summer Celtics.
