Trevelin Queen feels he could’ve helped Sixers, close with Joel Embiid

Former Philadelphia 76ers wing player Trevelin Queen believes he could’ve helped the team and he talks his relationship with Joel Embiid.

PHILADELPHIA — The Indiana Pacers have connections to the Philadelphia 76ers through TJ McConnell and Trevelin Queen. Most Sixers fans will know McConnell from his four seasons in Philadelphia, but Queen is shrouded in mystery.

Queen was brought in by Philadelphia early in free agency but he did not get much of a chance to show what he can do. He suffered a concussion in the preseason opener promptly after scoring four quick points. By the time he was clear of the concussion protocol, the Sixers waived him and he then signed with the Pacers.

While he is on a two-way deal, he has yet to play for Indiana, but as he made his return to Philadelphia on Monday, Queen was thankful for his time with the Sixers and his relationship with Joel Embiid.

“I guess everybody had a certain relationship with me, but I felt like Joel Embiid,” said Queen. “I was pretty cool with him. I was pretty close with him. He liked me as a player. He liked me as a person, so he was pretty cool. James (Harden), I met James in Houston, so I already had a familiar type encounter with him.”

One wonders what could have been if the Sixers had kept Queen. He was the 2022 G League MVP and showed off a lot of his scoring and versatile play out on the floor.

Even though the Sixers had a slew of veterans ahead of him, the young man out of New Mexico State feels as if he could have made an impact with the team.

“I feel like I can do something anywhere I’m at, honestly,” he added. “Philly wasn’t the position so Indiana is the home for me. Everything happens for a reason at the end of the day. I feel like I could’ve been a contributor to Philly. I feel like I had a good training camp. I thought there was support in me as a player. It’s a tough business so I just stay ready for any situation.”

Even though his time in Philadelphia was brief, it was a beneficial time for Queen being able to learn from the likes of Embiid and Harden on the roster.

“It was a blessing being around a bunch of Hall of Famers,” he stated. “A great organization with good people. I feel like I learned a lot there just about myself and basketball, in general, just being around James Harden, Joel Embiid, and all these veteran players that just have so much already invested into the game so I take it as a learning process for me.”

Former Sixers wing Trevelin Queen signs two-way deal with Pacers

Former Philadelphia 76ers wing player Trevelin Queen will sign a two-way deal with the Indiana Pacers.

With the regular season approaching, the Philadelphia 76ers had to make some tough decisions when it came to getting the roster down to the NBA limit of 15.

On Sunday, the Sixers waived Trevelin Queen after bringing in the 2022 G League MVP on a deal early in free agency. Queen only played in one preseason game after suffering a head injury and entering the concussion protocol. He did not play in their next preseason game, and the Sixers decided to move on.

On Tuesday, Queen landed on his feet rather quickly. He is signing a two-way deal with the Indiana Pacers. Considering Indiana is in a rebuild, this gives Queen an opportunity to play and show what he can do.

As for the Sixers, they will finish the preseason schedule on Wednesday when they take on the Charlotte Hornets at home.

Sixers parting ways with Trevelin Queen, roster now stands at 19

The Philadelphia 76ers have parted ways with Trevelin Queen as the roster now stands at 19 players.

As the Philadelphia 76ers continue to navigate the preseason and prepare for the 2022-23 season, they face tough decisions to get their roster down to the league limit.

The Sixers entered the preseason with 20 players, but they have to get to 15. They took a step toward that number on Sunday morning.

Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers will part ways with Trevelin Queen. Philadelphia brought in the 2022 G League MVP on a non-guaranteed deal in free agency, but he was not able to make a big impact on the team.

Unfortunately for Queen, he did not get much of a chance. He suffered a head injury in the preseason opener against the Brooklyn Nets. He scored four points and had two steals in five minutes off the bench in that game.

Queen has battled through adversity such as homelessness before. This is just a minor setback for him as he continues his NBA journey.

Player grades: Tyrese Maxey shines as Sixers knock off Nets in preseason

Tyrese Maxey has a big night as the Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Brooklyn Nets in the preseason opener on Monday.

NEW YORK–The Philadelphia 76ers opened up the preseason action on Monday when they hit the road to take on the Brooklyn Nets. Training camp was over and it was time to hit the hardwood against somebody other than themselves.

The Sixers were down Joel Embiid, James Harden, and PJ Tucker in this one to manage their load while Danuel House Jr. was out due to a stiff neck, but they had Tyrese Maxey who was terrific in his 14 minutes of action. The young man out of Kentucky had 20 points on 6-for-8 shooting and he knocked down all six free throws with two triples as Philadelphia took the game by a score of 127-108.

Paul Reed had 10 points and five rebounds, Furkan Korkmaz had 15 points and four assists, Tobias Harris had nine points in 16 minutes, and Montrezl Harrell had 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out in 12 minutes. Isaiah Joe had nine points and Georges Niang had eight off the bench as well while Julian Champagnie had 15 points.

Here are the player grades following the win:

Trevelin Queen wants to use PJ Tucker as example to find role with Sixers

Trevelin Queen wants to use PJ Tucker as an example to find his role with the Philadelphia 76ers.

NEW YORK — Philadelphia 76ers wing Trevelin Queen is entering a new situation after finally breaking through during the 2021-22 G League season.

While with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the Houston Rockets’ organization, Queen won the G League MVP award after putting his offensive skills on display. He led the Vipers to the G League title over Philadelphia’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He averaged 25.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 34.2% from deep.

As Queen begins his first season in Philadelphia, he is leaning on the veterans after a successful training camp in Charleston, South Carolina.

“A new environment, new people, a new role on a team,” Queen said. “I just try to fit in where I can get in at. It’s been more of a learning experience. So many veterans around here compared to Houston last year, so I’m just trying to soak up as much information as I can from Doc Rivers to PJ Tucker to the GM and everything like that. It’s just a blessing to be here.”

Speaking of Tucker, the veteran is serving as an example to Queen. The young man out of New Mexico State is looking to be a star in his role just as Tucker has developed into in his career.

“Just as far as he got to the league and his journey,” Queen said of Tucker. “I kinda fit into that. It took a while to get to where he wanted to go, and I look at him as a dawg mentality. He’s the same PJ Tucker every time he comes in here. He plays hard the whole game so, hopefully, I can look at that as the way I can fit in. Just play hard all the time.”

As the Sixers get set to begin preseason action on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets, now is the time for Queen and others like him on the roster to make his mark.

“Just go out there and play Philly basketball and just learn from the game,” he finished. “It’s preseason so you wanna do the best that you can, but also have a lot of learning points. The game isn’t gonna be perfect. … We’re just gonna go out there and do the best we can and learn from that.”

Bold predictions for PJ Tucker, other offseason additions for Sixers

Here are bold predictions for PJ Tucker and the other offseason additions for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers made offseason moves over the summer to add depth around stars Joel Embiid and James Harden. The Sixers wanted to upgrade the supporting cast, and they went out and made moves quickly.

On draft night, the team added De’Anthony Melton through a trade. Then they signed PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr. and Trevelin Queen at the outset of free agency. While maybe only three of these players will have an impact on the floor, Sixers Wire has a bold prediction for all four.

Sixers viewed as team trending upward after big offseason moves

The Philadelphia 76ers are seen as a team trending upward in the Eastern Conference after their offseason moves.

The Philadelphia 76ers worked very quickly in the 2022 offseason. They made a trade on draft night, acquiring De’Anthony Melton to add depth. They received help from James Harden when he opted out of his deal, giving the team money to sign PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr. and Trevelin Queen in free agency.

All of the moves the Sixers have made make them feel much more confident in being able to break through in the Eastern Conference. They have a strong star duo, Joel Embiid and Harden, and quality depth and role players around them.

In terms of their rising stock in the East, they are trending upward as Bleacher Report puts it:

The PJ Tucker signing might have gotten more publicity — and he can certainly help in the short term — but the Philadelphia 76ers’ real coup this summer was the trade for De’Anthony Melton.

Philadelphia sent Danny Green (who may miss all of the 2022-23 season with a torn ACL) and the draft pick that became David Roddy for Melton, who’s sixth in the NBA in steal percentage over the last two seasons.

He’s far from a one-trick pony, though. Over the same span, Melton has hit 38.8 percent of his three-point attempts and showed off some decent facilitation chops as well.

The Sixers will likely call upon Danuel House Jr. to do the same. The last time he was on a Daryl Morey-assembled team, he averaged 9.7 points and shot 37.3 percent from deep over his three full seasons with the Houston Rockets.

The Tucker addition is getting all of the love and the majority of the attention, but the additions of Melton, House Jr. and maybe even Queen will definitely play a role in whatever Philadelphia does in the upcoming season. There is no doubt that this was a successful offseason for Daryl Morey and the front office.

New Sixers addition Trevelin Queen scores 42 points, wins MVP of Brunson League

New Philadelphia 76ers addition Trevelin Queen dropped 42 points and took home MVP honors in the Brunson League.

Everybody around the NBA is getting in their final workouts as they prepare for the upcoming grind of the 2022-23 season. That means it’s time for pro-ams and on-the-court work against some good competition.

Trevelin Queen, a Sixers addition at the outset of free agency, participated in the Brunson League pro-am in Maryland on Saturday and had a big day.

Queen scored 42 points and took home Brunson League MVP honors to lead his time to the title. This comes after he took home G League MVP honors with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers after leading them to the G League title in 2022.

Queen played 10 games for the Houston Rockets in the 2021-22 season and the hope for him is he will be able to make an impact and earn a spot in the rotation for the Sixers in the 2022-23 season. He has the skills, the athleticism, and the toughness to do so.

Trevelin Queen opens up on arduous journey to the NBA, G League, fit with Sixers

From homelessness to junior college, to the G League, to now with the Philadelphia 76ers, Trevelin Queen has had one amazing journey.

To make it to the NBA, one has to put in a to of hard work in order to put themselves in that position to succeed. That means putting in tons of hours in the gym as well as making sacrifices in order to ensure that their success is at the forefront of their everyday lives.

Combine all of that with adversity such as being homeless, being hungry, and not receiving any college scholarship offers, well, it makes that journey to the NBA that much tougher.

That is what new Philadelphia 76ers addition Trevelin Queen had to go through as he battled through all of that in order to be in a position to succeed with the Sixers.

Queen sat down with Sixers Wire and discusses his arduous journey to the NBA, his time in the G League, and his fit with the Sixers.

Sixers 2022-23 projected depth chart with PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr.

Here is the projected depth chart for the 2022-23 Philadelphia 76ers after the additions of PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr.

The last time the Philadelphia 76ers were seen, they were exiting the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons after a loss to the Miami Heat in Game 6 at home.

After the defeat, the Sixers went to work rather quickly in the offseason as they made a trade on draft night to acquire De’Anthony Melton and then they brought in PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr. in free agency. They also signed Trevelin Queen, but Tucker and House Jr. are expected to make a bigger impact at the moment.

While there still could be some moves on the way, at the moment, the Sixers are a good basketball team on paper. It’s time to go through the projected depth chart and see what the Sixers could look like in the 2022-23 season.
