Here are the final Philadelphia 76ers summer league grades after play wraps up in Las Vegas.

After the Philadelphia 76ers finished the summer league with a loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night, it is time to hand out grades for the younger players for their summer league play. They went 2-1 in Utah and 2-3 in Las Vegas as they took a long look at their youngsters.

Philadelphia received strong play from Isaiah Joe, Paul Reed, Jaden Springer and others. Now is the time to evaluate their play. They also saw what they have in free agency addition Trevelin Queen, who made an impression in the eight summer league games.

The summer grades for the main young Sixers in the summer:

Observations from Trevelin Queen, Sixers beating up Nuggets in Vegas

Here are some observations from Trevelin Queen and the Philadelphia 76ers beating up on the Denver Nuggets in the Vegas summer league.

The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Denver Nuggets on Friday night in Las Vegas and the team got off to a fast start. Philadelphia got Isaiah Joe back in the lineup and they were able to use their hot start in order to knock off the summer Nuggets 97-71.

The Sixers got a spark from Joe who knocked down a couple of triples, but they were led in scoring by Grant Riller who scored 13 of his 18 in the first half. The Sixers led 22-9 after one quarter and then 48-27 at the half.

On top of Riller’s nice night, Philadelphia got an overall good night out of Trevelin Queen who stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Joe had 14 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists, Michael Foster Jr. had nine and eight boards, Justin Smith had 10 and eight rebounds, and Charlie Brown Jr. had eight and six rebounds. Aminu Mohammed also added 10 and six boards as well.

Here are the observations following the summer league win from Vegas:

ESPN picks Sixers as early winners of 2022 NBA free agency period

ESPN is picking the Philadelphia 76ers as the early winners of the 2022 free agency period.

The NBA free agency period has not been around for even two full weeks, but people around the sports world are beginning to pick a winner of the offseason after a flurry of moves made by each team.

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of those teams who made their moves when they brought in PJ Tucker on a 3-year deal, that has a player option in the third season, as well as Danuel House Jr. and Trevelin Queen. The Sixers also brought in De’Anthony Melton in a trade on draft night.

The idea is that the Sixers will be a deeper, tougher, more physical team as they move forward with their title hopes led by Joel Embiid and James Harden.

ESPN’s Kevin Pelton is picking the Sixers as the winner of free agency:

The Philadelphia 76ers, I think a winner so far in free agency. They added the kind of tough minded. defensive players who can also shoot roleplayers that you want around Joel Embiid, James Harden, Tyrese Maxey. So obviously, PJ Tucker from the Miami Heat their marquee addition using the non taxpayer mid-level exception, also got Danuel House Jr., another former member of the Houston Rockets who played with James Harden there when Daryl Morey was in Houston. And then De’Anthony Melton in a nice trade with the Memphis Grizzlies sending out the 23rd pick in this year’s draft. Another former Houston draft pick, never played with Harden and the Rockets, but someone who fits that similar mold and really is improved as a shooter and become a quality role player and on a great contract the next couple of years.

Pelton did express some concern about the fact that Tucker got a player option in the final year of the contract, but at the same time, he is still a good addition for coach Doc Rivers:

I do have a little concern about what they gave a three year contract with a player option to PJ Tucker kind of remarkable given that last year he was only able to get a two year deal with the player option on the second year for the Heat for less money, but I understand why he was so coveted. This is something I wrote about before the start of free agency is players like Tucker who have the ability to play forward. I don’t know who’s the power and the small forward. You play him in Tobias Harris together in Philadelphia, it kind of doesn’t matter, but do that during the regular season. And then in the playoffs. I think he’s someone who can slide to that backup center spot but behind Joel Embiid and give the Sixers a little bit different look, they can become more switchable with those lineups letting what James Harden is going to want to do so I like the flexibility that all of that gives Doc Rivers.

As the Sixers move forward, it will be important to figure out roles and make sure Tucker is in a good spot and comfortable with the team. It’s important that House Jr. fills a role in the team’s bench unit as well. They need him to be a good 3-and-D player for that second group.

Sixers receive an overall A grade for their offseason moves so far

The Philadelphia 76ers have received an A for their offseason moves so far in 2022.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been quite busy thus far in the offseason. They signed three free agents and executed a draft night trade to retool the roster around Joel Embiid and James Harden. The Sixers will also eventually sign Harden to an extension to have their title core.

The Sixers signed PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr. and Trevelin Queen in free agency, and they traded Danny Green and their pick on draft night to the Memphis Grizzlies to acquire De’Anthony Melton. The idea is to put more depth and shooting around the two stars.

Bleacher Report recently put together offseason grades for all 30 teams and the Sixers have received an A for their moves in the offseason so far:

Those inclined to hand-wring might feel uneasy about guaranteeing three years and $33 million for the 37-year-old Tucker, but House’s comparatively modest two-year, $8.4 million agreement balances things out. Plus, the Sixers are in full win-now mode with what’s left of James Harden and the uncertain remainder of Joel Embiid’s prime. If Tucker plays a major role in a title run this season, Philly won’t care if he’s a negative asset at some point later in his new deal.

Plus, Tucker and trade acquisition Melton dramatically up the 76ers’ toughness level. Both are rugged defenders who can also stretch the floor with their shooting, making them game-closing options against the toughest matchups.

Of course, this offseason isn’t over just yet. The Sixers still need to figure out the Harden extension. At the moment, president Daryl Morey has done a great job of using his resources to put the Sixers in a solid position.

Observations from Charlie Brown Jr., Sixers in loss to Nets in Vegas

Here are some observations from Charlie Brown Jr. and the Philadelphia 76ers from their summer league loss over the Brooklyn Nets in Vegas.

The Philadelphia 76ers continued their summer league season on Sunday afternoon when they took on the Brooklyn Nets in Las Vegas. After a fourth-quarter collapse on Saturday, the Sixers had a better effort 24 hours later in Vegas.

The Sixers and the Nets went back-and-forth all afternoon before Brooklyn could pull away and come up with a 91-84 victory. Charlie Brown Jr. had a solid day off the bench with 14 points and four steals as the Sixers made just enough plays in this one.

Cassius Winston led Philadelphia with 16 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, Charles Bassey had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Jaden Springer added nine and three steals. Trevelin Queen added nine and Malik Ellison had eight and five boards. Isaiah Joe left with right shoulder soreness and had three points in 8:08.

Here are the observations in the win:

Trevelin Queen was on a cruise when he found out Sixers signed him

New Philadelphia 76ers addition Trevelin Queen was on a cruise before he found out where he was going in free agency.

New Philadelphia 76ers addition Trevelin Queen has an interesting storyline as he continues on his NBA career path. He has been signed to contracts, then waived, and then the Houston Rockets signed him to a two-way deal in the 2021-22 season.

As he got his opportunity, he flourished on his way to winning G League MVP honors and winning a title with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Now, he is with the Sixers on a 2-year deal as he looks to continue his journey and make an impact in Philadelphia.

Yahoo! Sports and NBATV’s Chris Haynes added another chapter to Queen’s story as the young man didn’t even know where he was headed in free agency. He was on a family cruise when his agent just made a decision for him because he couldn’t get a hold of him.

Per Haynes:

Trevelin Queen, for those that don’t know, he was the MVP of the G League this past season, but he was also a free agent in this offseason. And it’s always bad timing to go into free agency while you’re on a cruise. That’s exactly what they did. They went on a family cruise during free agency. He didn’t have any phone reception. So him and his agent, Daniel Hassan, made an agreement that if his agent found a deal out there, and if he couldn’t reach his client, he was going to agree to the best deal. And so that’s exactly what happened. The Philadelphia 76ers came calling and his agent agreed and when his client came back from his cruise, he was informed that he was now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Queen will have every opportunity to make a move and earn a spot in the team’s rotation. They have a need for wing depth and the athletic 6-foot-6 player out of New Mexico State will have his chance all throughout the summer and into training camp.

B/R gives Sixers a B-minus for free agency signing of Trevelin Queen

The Philadelphia 76ers received a grade of B-minus for their addition of Trevelin Queen.

The Philadelphia 76ers made their mark early in free agency when they signed three free agents. The biggest was PJ Tucker, but two other signings helped improve roster depth.

One addition was Trevelin Queen who only has 10 games of NBA experience as a two-way player with the Houston Rockets in the 2021-22 season. The versatile wing player was named the 2022 G League MVP when he averaged 25.3 points and 6.7 rebounds along with 5.2 assists to lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a G League title.

Queen shot 37.5% from deep in the 10 games with the Rockets on 2.4 attempts per game. That shot is something he can bring to Philadelphia in order to help the team have success.

Bleacher Report gave their grades for the team’s signings and they gave the Sixers a B-minus for the Queen addition:

What does that mean for Queen’s NBA outlook? Not a ton. The list of G League MVP winners isn’t exactly littered with household names, though Sixers fans will surely recognize the 2020-21 winner, Paul Reed.

Shooting will be a swing skill for Queen (he shot 33.5 percent from three last season, although he launched them at a high volume), but if he hits enough to find the floor, he can inject the wing rotation with defensive activity and transition buckets. The reward probably won’t be great, but the cost is minimal (his two-year deal is only partially guaranteed for the first season), so it’s hard to have any gripes.

Considering the Sixers have a need for depth on the wings and Queen will have every opportunity to earn a rotational spot. He is currently with the team’s summer league squad in Las Vegas and that will give him his first opportunity to make an impression on the team.

Isaiah Joe stands out again for Sixers in loss to Raptors in Las Vegas

Third-year wing Isaiah Joe led the Sixers with 24 points in the game. He connected on 7 of his 9 three-point attempts and shot 1-for-5 on two-point baskets.

The Philadelphia 76ers opened their Las Vegas slate of the 2022 NBA Summer League against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.

The basketball was not pretty for either team, with both teams going on lopsided runs at different points throughout the affair. Toronto went on a 16-0 run in the first quarter; Philadelphia went on a 15-0 run in the second quarter; Toronto outscored Philadelphia 26-7 in the fourth quarter to send the Sixers to a 97-77 defeat.

Third-year wing Isaiah Joe led the Sixers with 24 points in the game. He connected on 7 of his 9 three-point attempts and shot 1-for-5 on two-point baskets.

Here are some observations from the loss.

Observations of Isaiah Joe, Sixers in summer league win over Thunder

Here are some observations from Isaiah Joe and the Philadelphia 76ers in a summer league matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Philadelphia 76ers finished up the Salt Lake City portion of the 2022 summer league when they took on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday and one could definitely tell it was their last day in Utah.

The Sixers looked a little sluggish from the jump in this one, but they were then able to pick it up and they came away with a close 80-79 win over the Thunder. The Sixers got a big game out of Isaiah Joe who had 19 points and four steals while Oklahoma City was missing the No. 2 overall pick, Chet Holmgren.

Paul Reed had 14 and seven rebounds, Jaden Springer had 11 and six rebounds, and Aminu Mohammed had seven off the bench. Trevelin Queen pulled down eight boards with three assists to chip in.

Here are some observations from the win over the Thunder:
