Bills confident in ‘next man up’ Dane Jackson

#Bills confident in ‘next man up’ Dane Jackson:

Cornerback Tre White went down and out for the season with an ACL tear last week, leaving a significant void for the Bills to fill on defense.

It’s going to take a team effort as well as a solid performance for whoever plays in his absence to keep the teams’ defense at the high-ranking performance level they’ve played at this season.

“It is next-man-up, regardless,” head coach Sean McDermott said via the Bills website this week. “But I think collectively as a team, we’ve got to take our game another level.”

That “next” player for the Bills is none other than second-year CB Dane Jackson, a seventh-round 2020 NFL draft selection from the University of Pittsburgh, taken at 239th overall.

“I think Dane Jackson is one of those guys who will step up,” defensive coordinator Frazier said to the press. “He’s the next man up and he’ll do a good job for us. But to say that he will play at the level of Tre’Davious, that would be, misleading for sure.”

Early returns on Jackson have been promising, however. In limited action over five games as a rookie, he had two starts, one interception as well as a fumble recovery to go with 15 tackles.

This season he’s played in every one of the Bills’ 11 games and on a total of 18% of their defensive snaps this season. That has included experience stepping in for White in the game against the Saints, as well as for starter Levi Wallace against the Dolphins when he was injured in Week 2.

Jackson caught the eye of the Bills front office and coaches during draft scouting on account of his physical style of play in defending passes as well as the run, and experience in man and zone coverage as a three-year starter at Pitt.

“He’s always been a guy, coming from Pitt, that has had our DNA in terms of gritty, resilient, player that’s tough, and he’s up for the challenge, I know that,” McDermott added. “We have a lot of confidence in Dane Jackson.”

The head coach wasn’t alone in his confidence in Jackson, as Frazier threw more support behind him as well.

“Even the game on Thursday night, when he stepped in, he has real good poise and a good feel for the game,” Frazier said. “And I think that helps him not to get overly concerned or to stress himself out to where he’s not playing to the level that we expect him to. So just that overall composure and that confidence that he has, and he’s a talented guy as well.”

As opposing QB’s may target him, Jackson will aim to hold his own across from starter Levi Wallace, who also received an encouraging assessment from his DC.

“We just want him to continue to play at a high level like he’s been playing,” Frazier added. “He’s been playing really well for us. He doesn’t really have to change and really get out of body, just be himself and continue to approach things the way he has.”

Second-year cornerback Cam Lewis, who has spent time inactive and on the practice squad and also filled in for White playing 47 snaps in the Bills win against Houston, will be next up on the depth chart behind Wallace and Jackson. The team also signed corners Tim Harris and Greg Stroman to their practice squad, they’ll join a CB depth chart mix that includes Taron Johnson, his backup in the slot Siran Neal, and undrafted rookies Nick McCloud, and Olaijah Griffin.

Jackson will have a trial-by-fire in the coming weeks including two matchups against the New England Patriots coming up starting with this week’s Monday Night Football game, as well as against Tom Brady and the Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Sean McDermott was straightforward in regards to the challenge that lies ahead for Jackson during Thursday’s media session as well.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in Dane. But, look, he’s going to get tested. That’s just the reality of the situation.”

Bills fans did an awesome thing for Tre’Davious White after he found out he tore his ACL

Bills fans donated more than $100,000 to a food bank in White’s hometown

Tre’Davious White had his season cut short last week during the Bills’ Thanksgiving game against the Saints.

He got injured during the game and later found out he’d actually tore his ACL. Obviously, with the expectations surrounding the Bills and that’s extremely disappointing. White is a major part of what Buffalo does defensively and losing him isn’t an easy thing to recover from.

No matter, though. Bills’ fans still have love for White whether he’s on the field for them or not.

To show him that love, they did a pretty awesome thing for the defensive back after he found out he tore his ACL.

Fans have donated more than $100,000 to the Food Bank of Northern Louisiana in his name. That’s where White is from.

That’s a pretty awesome thing, man.

White was extremely grateful for their kindness.

“I am at a loss for words for what the Bills Mafia has done for me and my hometown. It truly means the world to me to have my fans support me in this way, by giving back to my community.”

That’s just amazing stuff. Y’all are incredibly dope, Bills fans.

Bills announce CB Tre’Davious White is done for season

Nothing less than crushing news for the #Bills:

Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White’s 2021 season is over.

White tore his ACL in the Bills’ 31-6 win over the New Orleans Saints on Thanksgiving. The team announced the news on Friday.

In the first half of the game, White’s knee buckled slightly. He was spotted down on the turf after a play and then was visibly upset on the sideline moments later.

What was running through White’s mind likely now is a reality.

Without White, Buffalo’s top two outside cornerback options will be Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson.

So far this season, White had six passes defended, 41 tackles, an interception and forced fumble.

Of course, White’s contributions to the Bills’ secondary goes well beyond any numbers.

Since being selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Buffalo (7-4), White has been a lockdown corner. He has a ascended to All-Pro status and is amongst the most respected defensive backs in the NFL.

White’s loss is massive for a Bills team that has Super Bowl aspirations.

Buffalo Bills lose Tre’Davious White to torn ACL

The Buffalo Bills will be without Tre’Davious White for the rest of the season

Thursday’s win by the Buffalo Bills over the New Orleans Saints came at a price for the AFC East team.

Cornerback Tre’Davious White is lost for the remainder of the season after tearing an ACL in the 31-6 victory.

White suffered the injury in the second quarter.

White ranked second of the team with six passes defensed. He also has 41 tackles one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery along with a half a sack in 2021.

The fifth-year pro has been selected to the past two Pro Bowls and was also named an All-Pro in 2019 (first team) and 2020 (second team).

He has started 72 of 72 games in his career since entering the league in 2017 from LSU.

Report card: Bills top Saints, 31-6, on Thanksgiving

Report card: #Bills top #Saints, 31-6, on Thanksgiving (via @NateMendelson):

Coming off a brutal loss in Indianapolis to the Colts, the Bills had a short week to get over their ghosts. They did just that, taking down the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, 31-6, on Thanksgiving night.

Buffalo (7-4) dominated the Saints (5-6) exactly how they should have with New Orleans missing so many key components.

Here’s how Bills Wire graded Buffalo after the win:

Pro Football Doc: There is ‘worry’ Bills’ Tre’Davious White tore ACL

Not the best first word on Tre:

There have yet to be any official reports or updates from Buffalo Bills coaches or the team itself on the status of cornerback Tre’Davious White just yet.

There’s still a chance he’s going to be OK.

However, the initial word from one source does not sound good.

According to Dr. David J. Chao, better known in NFL social media circles as “Pro Football Doc,” there were some troubling signs \.

At his site, ProFootballDoc.com, Chao wrote that there’s reasons to believe White might have torn his ACL in his knee. That would mean his season is over.

Upon leaving the game, the team indicated White did sustain some sort of injury to his knee.

Via the site, Chao wrote that White was tested for an ACL tear on the field when he was down on the turf.

Here’s part of the insight:

Once the Bills release an official update on White’s status, Bills Wire will provide all updates.

Following the 31-6 win over the Saints, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott did not have updates.

The coach did say he’s praying for the best and similar sentiments were echoed by some player, including quarterback Josh Allen.

Bills’ Tre’Davious White, Cody Ford injured vs. Saints

Not good:

The Buffalo Bills went down one player on each side of the ball within minutes of each other against the New Orleans Saints (5-5).

The first came from the Bills (6-4) offense. Offensive lineman Cody Ford went down with an arm issue and he is questionable to return.

The one in worse shape is cornerback Tre’Davious White. With a knee injury, he is classified as doubtful to return:

It’s unclear exactly when Ford’s injury occurred.

Some spotted that Ford was replaced by Ryan Bates in the lineup, and it was unclear if it was performance based or injury related until now.

White was spotted being attended to by trainers.

It appeared his left knee slightly buckled under him on a play.

Here’s a look at White’s injury:

Bills Wire will provide updates as information is made available.

Colts vs. Bills: Key matchups to watch in Week 11

These key matchups will determine the outcome for the Colts and Bills in Week 11.

The Indianapolis Colts (5-5) are hoping to upset the Buffalo Bills (6-3) on the road at Highmark Stadium in Week 11.

A game that has plenty of playoff implications for both sides, the Colts have yet to beat a team with a record above .500 this season. This game will come down to a handful of matchups that will determine the outcome. Here are the key matchups to keep an eye on in the Week 11 bout:

This will not only show if Frank Reich’s team can contest with one of the league’s strongest teams but also if Indy has what it takes to make it into the postseason.

The Bills have had interesting performances the last two weeks, losing the Jaguars and then lambasting the Jets. This offense has struggled at times this year but has the potential to run away with a game at any time.

There are several Bills players that the Colts must game plan for in order to come away with a win.
