The NBA, NBPA and ESPN are reportedly close to finalizing a H-O-R-S-E competition that will feature current and past players from the NBA and WNBA, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Chris Paul, Trae Young and Zach LaVine are among the NBA players apparently set to participate in the event, which will also include recent NBA alumni.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN and would likely be held in home gyms as the players involved would be in different locations due to social distancing guidelines.

A report that surfaced last week named Paul as one potential player to participate in the event while No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson was also rumored to be interested but his name did not surface in the report by Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

Two former Warriors eliminated in first round of NBA 2K Tournament

Kevin Durant and Harrison Barnes have been officially eliminated in the NBA 2K tournament.

While the NBA season is still on hold, a form of hoops returned to national television on Friday. Although it wasn’t professional basketball, the players-only NBA 2K Tournament kicked off for the first round on ESPN.

The tournament started with a major upset as the top overall seed for the contest Kevin Durant went down in the first round against Derrick Jones Jr. of the Miami Heat.

Durant played with the Los Angeles Clippers as Jones used the Milwaukee Bucks. Jones and Bucks rolled the former Warriors’ forward in a 78-62 victory.

Another former Warrior was eliminated in the first round when Trae Young took to the sticks. Atlanta’s young All-Star cruised to a comfortable victory against Harrison Barnes. Young chose to play with Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks in his blowout 101-59 win against Barnes and the Toronto Raptors.

Along with Young and Jones, Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton and Clippers point guard Patrick Beverley punched tickets for the second round of the 2K tournament.

With two former members of the Warriors already eliminated, DeMarcus Cousins is the only remaining player in the tournament connected to Golden State. The former Los Angeles Lakers center will faceoff against Andre Drummond on Sunday.

Trio of former Warriors to participate in players-only NBA 2K tournament

Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins and Harrison Barnes will compete in a players-only NBA 2K20 tournament.

NBA action is still on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, a form of basketball will be returning to national television soon. Representatives from across the league will gather on Friday for the first installment of a players-only NBA 2K20 tournament.

The competition will air on ESPN over 10 days. Sixteen different players, including three former members of the Golden State Warriors, will participate in the video game tournament.

Players were seeded one through 16 with league tenure and 2K rating determining their position. Former Dub Kevin Durant is at the top of the list, with Demarcus Cousins at 11 and Harrison Barnes at 15. The rest of the field is mixed with young players and All-Stars like Donovan Mitchell, Trae Young, Devin Booker and Domantas Sabonis.

Odds would point towards each player using their squad in the tournament. However, with no current Warrior represented, Golden State’s 2k team is up for grabs. While the Warriors record currently sits at the bottom of the NBA, their 2K roster is stocked full of top-rated players.

Stephen Curry is rated 95 overall with a 99 when it comes to 3-point shooting. Although he’s still injured, Klay Thompson sits at 86 with a 95 rating from beyond the arc. Behind the Splash Brothers, Andrew Wiggins is rated 82 with both Draymond Green and Eric Paschall holding 79s.

With the Los Angeles Lakers waiving Cousins before he ever suited up in yellow and purple, the Kentucky product could be a candidate to run with his old squad in the 2K showdown.

Rui Hachimura and Michael Porter Jr. to play in NBA 2K tournament

Rui Hachimura and Michael Porter Jr. will get an opportunity to showcase their NBA 2K skills.

The players and matchups for the players-only NBA 2K20 tournament were released on Tuesday, and the NBA’s rookies will have some representation from two of their peers.

Per a tweet from The Boardroom, Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura and Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. will compete in the tournament, which the league hopes to start Friday. According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, the tourney consists of 16 players and will be held over the course of 10 days. It will be televised on ESPN.

Hachimura is slated to play Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell in the first round, and Porter is set to play Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

The tournament’s seeding was made by players’ 2K ratings, and then by tenure in the league. Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant has the top seed, and the rest of the top five consists of Trae Young, Hassan Whiteside, Mitchell and Booker.

Hachimura and Porter are both going up against gamers in Mitchell and Booker, respectively. Mitchell has streamed some 2K clips during the hiatus, and Booker has been streaming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

With the NBA’s season on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans watching some of the game’s top players virtually compete could be entertaining. It’s going to be interesting to see the different styles each player utilizes on the sticks to try and snag a win.

The NBA is hosting a ‘players only’ NBA 2K tournament

We finally get to see who is actually good at 2K.

If you’ve ever wondered how good your favorite NBA players are at NBA 2K video games, you’re about to find out.

With real basketball being out of the picture for the foreseeable future, the NBA is tapping in to NBA 2K to provide fans with some entertainment. They’re hosting a “players only” NBA 2K tournament that will have 16 actual NBA players playing against each other in a tournament format.

Some of the details are still being nailed down, but the tournament starts on Friday and will be broadcast live on ESPN over the course of 10 days. Here’s a look at the field.

I’ve always wondered if NBA players play the game as themselves — especially if they have a lower rating on the game. Now, it looks like we’re going to find out.

If it were me? I’d probably say Trae Young comes out of this thing the winner. Kevin Durant has the best rating, obviously, but he also doesn’t seem like he plays video games.

Trae Young is young just seems like the 2K type, if you know what I mean. He’s young enough with a good enough player to get it done.

But listen, Hassan Whiteside is a good pick. He already told us he lives for this 2K thing. Don’t sleep.

This should be pretty fun to watch with no basketball. At the very least, it gives us something to do. At this point? That’s all we need.

Atlanta’s Trae Young has high praise for Klay Thompson’s defense

Trae Young listed Klay Thompson as one of his top-three defenders in the NBA.

While the NBA is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, players across the league are turning to social media to fill their time. Whether it’s question and answer segments, watching old highlights, or discussing video games, the NBA hiatus has turned players from the court to their phones.

On Monday night, Atlanta’s phenom sharpshooter Trae Young spend time on Twitter doing a question and answer period with his followers. The first-time All-Star answered questions about his music, movies and his time at Oklahoma.

Young was asked about his top-three defensive players in the NBA and mentioned a member of the Golden State Warriors. The former lottery pick named Klay Thompson as one of his best defenders along with Kawhi Leonard and Jrue Holiday.

Via @TheTraeYoung on Twitter:

Before getting injuring his knee in the 2019 NBA Finals, Thompson was named to the NBA Second-Team All-Defensive Team.

In Young’s first dance with Golden State in his rookie season, he was held to four points on 2-of-12 shooting in 27 minutes. In round two, Young dropped 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting.

Without Thompson on the floor due to injury in 2019, Young notched 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting. In three games against Golden State in his career, Young has only shot 2-of-16 from beyond the arc.

Once Thompson makes his long-awaited return to the court from his ACL injury, Young will have the chance to battle with Golden State’s Splash Brother again.

The Dwyane Wade-Gabrielle Union family had so much fun crushing the #InHouseChallenge

This family is making quarantine fun.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union’s competitive urges can’t be quelled during the coronavirus pandemic.

After Hawks guard Trae Young kicked off the #InHouseChallenege, the Wade-Union family gave it a try. The concept of the challenge is fairly simple: you take household items and shoot them at a trash bin, basket or hoop-like object. It ends up looking something like a run through the three-point competition during All-Star Weekend. NBA fans seemed to enjoy it.

Wade and Union were no exception. They set up a bunch of small balls and shot at a toy hoop. It looks like it was a matchup between husband and wife, though they were definitely cheering each other on along the way.

Union’s buzzer-beater at the end was pretty awesome.

Whatever passes the time, folks.

Sixers quarantine diary: Joel Embiid returns to ground Trae Young, Hawks

Saturday’s quarantine diary recounts the time Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Atlanta Hawks.

With the NBA in infinite quarantine, I am continuing my quarantine diary where I give my thoughts to a game whenever a game becomes accessible. These will become a bit more frequent now that all games have become accessible.

Saturday’s edition is on the third game of the season as the Philadelphia 76ers looked to remain unbeaten against the Atlanta Hawks on the road. Both teams entered the game 2-0 and it was a battle of the unbeatens down at State Farm Arena on October 28.

First Quarter

  • The Hawks jump out early to a 7-0 lead as the Sixers offense just can’t buy a bucket and they make a lot of early mistakes. Ben Simmons then finally gets Philadelphia on the board and Josh Richardson makes his first 3-pointer with the Sixers after missing his first eight over the first two games of his Sixers career.
  • Man, Trae Young is so impressive. Young puts a nasty crossover on Richardson and he then drills a deep triple for Atlanta. The Sixers may have to send more help to whoever is defending Young in this one. Richardson responds by using his size to score down low.
  • Holy hell, Young with a ridiculously deep 3-pointer for the Hawks followed by two triples from Jabari Parker and it’s a 24-11 lead for Atlanta. Young really does have a lot of Stephen Curry in him. The handle, the deep shooting ability, and the size is all there.
  • Philadelphia gets a few buckets from Joel Embiid as he returns after missing a game and Matisse Thybulle as well, but they trail the Hawks 40-31 after one as Young scores again. The Sixers need to do something about this kid.

Second Quarter

  • The heroes from the win over the Detroit Pistons, Tobias Harris and Mike Scott, are struggling to begin this one. Good thing for the Sixers they have Embiid back. The big thing is, Philly can’t stop Young. He’s having his way right now.
  • Shake Milton again is coming off the bench and giving Brett Brown some solid minutes. The Sixers had hopes that he would become a legitimate rotation player for them. He and Thybulle knock down threes and Philadelphia is back within 2.
  • The coach’s challenge of fouls is a bit much for me. Do we really need a coach challenging a call in the second quarter? It just seems unnecessary. Save it for the fourth quarter or something.
  • A Richardson triple and an Embiid free-throw give the Sixers a 54-53 lead. The defense has been much, much better in this quarter. Atlanta has just 13 points at the 2:50 mark of the quarter.
  • At the 1:36 mark, Scott gets called for a ridiculous flagrant-2. How does that warrant an ejection? A flagrant-1? Sure, but a 2? Come on, Rodney Mott. Be better.
  • The Hawks lead is 65-63 at halftime. It would have been larger if not for Embiid and Richardson for the Sixers. Harris is 1-for-7 so far after his 29 points against Detroit the other night. Young has 19 points.

Third Quarter

  • Woah! Embiid did not have to do John Collins like that! That man has a family! And the shimmy!? Sheesh, Joel. He got a technical for that? Again, Rodney Mott, be better.
  • Al Horford knocks down a triple to cap a 10-0 Sixers run. That’s just the third shot he has taken in this game as he looks to find a niche on this team.
  • This game is chippy as hell. Both teams are messing with each other and trying to gain a mental edge. A Vince Carter 3-pointer does give Atlanta a 78-73 lead. The Sixers have not scored since Horford’s 3-pointer at the 7:24 mark.
  • Milton makes a free-throw at the 3:06 mark to end the team’s scoreless drought. He later knocks down an open 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 81-78. He is a really solid player for this team.
  • Just as I say that he bangs knees with 45.8 seconds left in the third and is announced as out for the game. That is so unfortunate for a kid who was finding a groove.
  • Embiid continues to have his way down low as he scores twice to bring Philadelphia to within 83-82 after three quarters. He has 25 points through 36 minutes of play. Young was scoreless in the third.

Fourth Quarter

  • Other than an Embiid triple to begin the quarter, the Sixers offense has been terrible. They go scoreless once again for a long time before Harris scores at the 6:32 mark of the fourth. The offense just comes and goes with this team.
  • This Hawks team has a lot of young talent. Their youth and energy is giving Philadelphia fits. De’Andre Hunter knocks down a three and the lead is now 98-90 for Atlanta. The Sixers are doing a much better job on young, but he is now setting up his teammates more due to the attention he’s receiving.
  • Embiid and Simmons are slowly bringing Philadelphia back into this game. The basketball IQ put on by Simmons is a really impressive thing to behold. Horford grabbed a rebound and threw it out to Simmons and he then rifled it inside to Harris who got fouled.
  • The Sixers offense has gone cold other than getting to the foul line. To be fair, they count as points too so as long as they make their free throws, they will be OK in this one. On top of that, the defense has been pretty good compared to what it was to start this game.
  • Harris with a big-time bucket down low to push the Philadelphia lead to three. You know, his ability to score from different spots on the floor has to be one of the more impressive parts of his game.
  • Collins gets a little bit of revenge from earlier. He works his way around Embiid and Horford and he ties the game at 103 with 7.4 ticks left.
  • Collins then fouls on Embiid on the hi-low, he hits two from the line, Carter misses, and the Sixers escape 105-103. The big fella comes through.

Embiid finishes with 36 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists to win it for the Sixers. Philadelphia is now the only unbeaten team left in the Eastern Conference and they will now return home for a big matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves. [lawrence-related id=27917,27907,27899]

Trae Young has the internet shooting jumpers into trash cans with the #InHouseChallenge

Hopefully this keeps us busy

Many of us are wisely sitting at home and practicing social distancing – but with no sports to watch, many fans are becoming incredibly bored.

I, for one, have never been more proud to be a member of the Trae Young Hive. It turns out our leader is just like us. The coronavirus has us all cooped up in the house.

We all needed something else to do, ASAP. The Hawks guard has blessed us with that something: The #InHouseChallenge. (Our guy isn’t that creative with the challenge names, obviously.)

Young held his own private three point contest with some socks and a trash can. Way to work on that jumper, Trae.

The entire internet is bored, so they’re all jumping in on the fun.

Some people are even including our dogs in the challenge.

And some people are remixing it by doing it backwards.

This is one of the most fun things I’ve seen on the internet in a while. I tried my hand at it and went 18 of 25 (with a few air…socks?…in between.) Shoutout to Trae Young.

WATCH: Trae Young stays sharp amid coronavirus

Going on nearly a week without sports, Atlanta Hawk guard Trae Young let NBA fans know that he still has range. Well, sort of…

Going on nearly a week without sports, former Oklahoma and current Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young let NBA fans know that he still has range. Well, sort of…

Wearing his All-Star game jersey, Young had some fun making a makeshift 3-point shooting contest while self-quarantining while the NBA is suspended due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Going 19-of-20, including a perfect money-ball rack, Young made up for his actual 3-point shooting contest at NBA All-Star Weekend where he was ousted in the first round after a score of 15 (12-of-27). Young closed out All-Star Weekend with a double-double for Team Giannis in the All-Star Game with 10 points and 10 assists.

Fellow Sooner and current Sacramento King Buddy Hield won the 2020 All-Star event with his final shot to defeat Phoenix’s, Devin Booker and Washington’s Davis Bertans with a score of 27.

In his lone season at Oklahoma, Young averaged 27.4 points per game, 3.4 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game, taking the Sooners to the first round of the NCAA Tournament in the 2017-2018 season.
