LaMelo Ball added to NBA 2K20 MyTEAM mode as part of NEXT series

As part of the NEXT series, LaMelo Ball was added to the NBA 2K20 MyTEAM store, receiving 95- and 99-rated cards.

While LaMelo Ball will have to wait to make his official debut in the NBA until much longer than expected, his debut in NBA 2K will come much sooner than expected. Ball was added to the NBA 2K20 MyTEAM mode on Thursday as part of the NEXT series along with a handful of other standout prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft class.

Each prospect was given two cards with Ball’s first card being a 95-rated Diamond and his higher-rated card by a 99-rated Galaxy Opal card. Each of Ball, James Wiseman and Anthony Edwards received Diamond and Galaxy Opal cards. Ball’s former teammate at Chino Hills, Onyeka Okongwu, received a Pink Diamond and Galaxy Opal card.

Ball’s 95-rated card does have some strengths and weaknesses. His playmaking comes in at 90, the highest-rated aspect of his game, with 96 passing vision and 90 passing accuracy and IQ. His card also has 98 shot IQ, 98 stamina and 98 hustle.

The 99-rated Galaxy Opal card, meanwhile, has no weaknesses. Only his rebounding comes in ranked lower than 94 among his base stats. Individually, only a handful of areas come in ranked under 90 including his post-scoring, standing dunk, various defensive stats and durability.

His shooting is all 96 rated and above while his playmaking is all 98 rating and above. Ball also has 56, yes 56, Hall of Fame badges including Ankle Breaker, Flashy Passer, Clutch Shooter and Range Extender.

NBA 2K teases addition of LaMelo Ball to NBA 2K20 MyTeam mode

On Wednesday, NBA 2K20 teased the potential addition of LaMelo Ball in the game’s MyTeam mode.

While the 2020 NBA Draft may have been delayed by multiple months like the rest of the NBA season, NBA 2K isn’t content with letting the original date pass by unnoticed. On Wednesday evening, the game’s MyTEAM Twitter account noted the original date of the 2020 NBA Draft would come on Thursday and, in lieu of a draft, “something special” was in the works.

The account tagged LaMelo Ball at the end of the tweet then attached a screenshot of Ball in the game.

The game’s MyTEAM mode typically does not add drafted rookies into that year’s game, instead opting to include them in the following year’s game. In the past, individual users would create detailed draft classes to use in career modes but the game itself has never included the same-season draft class.

A mix of things may have led to including Ball in this year’s game. Obviously, the coronavirus situation has likely forced the game to get creative in adding fresh content during the months since real-life games have taken place. From a business standpoint, Ball is a very popular player and adding him to the game would naturally lead to more interest.

Two former Warriors eliminated in first round of NBA 2K Tournament

Kevin Durant and Harrison Barnes have been officially eliminated in the NBA 2K tournament.

While the NBA season is still on hold, a form of hoops returned to national television on Friday. Although it wasn’t professional basketball, the players-only NBA 2K Tournament kicked off for the first round on ESPN.

The tournament started with a major upset as the top overall seed for the contest Kevin Durant went down in the first round against Derrick Jones Jr. of the Miami Heat.

Durant played with the Los Angeles Clippers as Jones used the Milwaukee Bucks. Jones and Bucks rolled the former Warriors’ forward in a 78-62 victory.

Another former Warrior was eliminated in the first round when Trae Young took to the sticks. Atlanta’s young All-Star cruised to a comfortable victory against Harrison Barnes. Young chose to play with Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks in his blowout 101-59 win against Barnes and the Toronto Raptors.

Along with Young and Jones, Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton and Clippers point guard Patrick Beverley punched tickets for the second round of the 2K tournament.

With two former members of the Warriors already eliminated, DeMarcus Cousins is the only remaining player in the tournament connected to Golden State. The former Los Angeles Lakers center will faceoff against Andre Drummond on Sunday.

OKC Thunder blows big first quarter league in NBA 2K20 loss to Suns

The Oklahoma City Thunder played against the Phoenix Suns in a Twitch live stream of NBA 2K20.

The Oklahoma City Thunder returned to the court Wednesday night to play against the Phoenix Suns.

Well, sort of.

In an NBA 2K20 game against the Phoenix Suns that was streamed on the Suns’ Twitch channel, the Thunder blew a 19-point first-quarter lead and lost 75-65.

Since the NBA season was suspended, the Suns have been playing out their schedule on NBA 2K20 and streaming on Twitch.

On Wednesday, instead of the regularly-scheduled hardwood matchup between Phoenix and OKC, the two teams took to the gaming console.

Arizona Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds faced off against Miami Dolphins defensive end Shaq Lawson.

Lawson scored the first 15 points of the game, but he was unable to hold onto the lead as Edmonds outscored the Thunder 22-7 in the second quarter.

Phoenix pulled ahead and closed it out.

Thunder point guard Chris Paul had 12 points and 10 assists and guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a team-high 17 points.

Four Oklahoma City starters scored in double-digits.

As for the Suns, shooting guard Devin Booker had a game-high 19 points to go with five assists and center Deandre Ayton had 17 points and 16 rebounds.

It may not be the basketball we’re all waiting for, but video game hoops is better than nothing at all.

Trio of former Warriors to participate in players-only NBA 2K tournament

Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins and Harrison Barnes will compete in a players-only NBA 2K20 tournament.

NBA action is still on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, a form of basketball will be returning to national television soon. Representatives from across the league will gather on Friday for the first installment of a players-only NBA 2K20 tournament.

The competition will air on ESPN over 10 days. Sixteen different players, including three former members of the Golden State Warriors, will participate in the video game tournament.

Players were seeded one through 16 with league tenure and 2K rating determining their position. Former Dub Kevin Durant is at the top of the list, with Demarcus Cousins at 11 and Harrison Barnes at 15. The rest of the field is mixed with young players and All-Stars like Donovan Mitchell, Trae Young, Devin Booker and Domantas Sabonis.

Odds would point towards each player using their squad in the tournament. However, with no current Warrior represented, Golden State’s 2k team is up for grabs. While the Warriors record currently sits at the bottom of the NBA, their 2K roster is stocked full of top-rated players.

Stephen Curry is rated 95 overall with a 99 when it comes to 3-point shooting. Although he’s still injured, Klay Thompson sits at 86 with a 95 rating from beyond the arc. Behind the Splash Brothers, Andrew Wiggins is rated 82 with both Draymond Green and Eric Paschall holding 79s.

With the Los Angeles Lakers waiving Cousins before he ever suited up in yellow and purple, the Kentucky product could be a candidate to run with his old squad in the 2K showdown.

Rui Hachimura and Michael Porter Jr. to play in NBA 2K tournament

Rui Hachimura and Michael Porter Jr. will get an opportunity to showcase their NBA 2K skills.

[jwplayer WXGWptic]

The players and matchups for the players-only NBA 2K20 tournament were released on Tuesday, and the NBA’s rookies will have some representation from two of their peers.

Per a tweet from The Boardroom, Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura and Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. will compete in the tournament, which the league hopes to start Friday. According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, the tourney consists of 16 players and will be held over the course of 10 days. It will be televised on ESPN.

Hachimura is slated to play Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell in the first round, and Porter is set to play Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

The tournament’s seeding was made by players’ 2K ratings, and then by tenure in the league. Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant has the top seed, and the rest of the top five consists of Trae Young, Hassan Whiteside, Mitchell and Booker.

Hachimura and Porter are both going up against gamers in Mitchell and Booker, respectively. Mitchell has streamed some 2K clips during the hiatus, and Booker has been streaming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

With the NBA’s season on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans watching some of the game’s top players virtually compete could be entertaining. It’s going to be interesting to see the different styles each player utilizes on the sticks to try and snag a win.

Who should represent the Warriors in the players-only NBA 2K tournament?

What member of the Golden State Warriors has the best NBA 2K skills on the sticks?

Although the NBA is still on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, a different form of the game will soon be available. To help feed basketball cravings, the NBA is getting creative.

Video games have been a popular time-filler during the NBA hiatus, and now players will have a chance to show off their skills for everyone to see.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the league will host players- only NBA 2K20 tournament that will air live on ESPN over 10 days.

The NBA’s version of a March Madness tournament will have 16 entrants. Donovan Mitchell and former Warrior DeMarcus Cousins are expected to be behind their controllers for the event, according to Haynes.

With the full field yet to be set โ€”ย who should represent the Golden State Warriors in the 2K showdown?

After a look into social media, Eric Paschall could be the favorite to handle the sticks for the Warriors. The second-round draft pick tweeted he “always dreamed” to be in the basketball video game.

Paschall is confident when it comes to his 2K skills. After an early-season loss to the Utah Jazz, the second-round draft pick mentioned the video game in his postgame press conference.

Via @957TheGame on Twitter:

I mean, if you put me in a chess game, put me in a Fortnite game, put me in a 2K game โ€” I’m going to win.

Another factor swaying towards the favor of Paschall is the fact his 2K game is fresh. During the NBA’s hiatus, the Villanova product shared on Instagram that he was playing the game alongside Utah’s All-Star guard.

If a member of the Dubs wants to enter the contest, they’ll have to act fast. According to Haynes, the NBA want’s to launch the 2K tournament as soon as Friday.
