Steelers fans react to Diontae Johnson trade rumors

Steelers fans came out in full force to tweet their reactions to rumors that Diontae Johnson could be traded.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans are out in full force on X (formerly Twitter) after NFL reporter Tony Pauline speculated that wide receiver Diontae Johnson could be traded for appropriate compensation. Heck, even Johnson responded to the rumors with a series of tweets.

Johnson made it known that he was unhappy with presumed starter Kenny Pickett when he endorsed Mason Rudolph the day after his team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.

As much of a blow as it would be to their current wide receiver room, the Steelers trading Johnson to avoid future distraction could be the right move.

Fans have mixed feelings.

Twitter/X reacts to Arkansas’ loss to Kentucky

Twitter is never a place for sane people and definitely for Arkansas fans on Saturday.

Arkansas played its best basketball game of the season against Kentucky.

Arkansas lost.

Arkansas could have been playing like that all season long.

Arkansas is cooked.

All four statements are true. The Razorbacks, after Saturday’s 111-102 loss at 15th-ranked Kentucky are now below .500 and in danger of finishing with a losing record for the first time since John Pelphrey’s 2009-10 team.

This year’s version of the Hogs isn’t nearly as bad as that one, which is what makes the season so frustrating for Arkansas fans. Coach Eric Musselman is with them in that emotion, though his cries aren’t made on Twitter. He’s a bit more stable than that.

Some Arkansas fans are convinced this is his last year with the Hogs. For whatever reason. Some are convinced Devo Davis is gone, too. And Khalif Battle. And Tramon Mark.

In other words, Twitter/X, that basion of sanity on the internet, continued to have wild takes even after the Hogs’ best game of the year. These are but a sampling.

Twitter reacts to Commanders’ releasing multiple starters

Twitter reacts to the Commanders moving on from Charles Leno, Logan Thomas and Nick Gates.

The Washington Commanders were among the NFL leaders in salary cap space. Washington could make more moves to create additional space and, on Friday, the Commanders released left tackle Charles Leno Jr. and tight end Logan Thomas to free up additional cap space ahead of free agency.

Washington also plans to release center Nick Gates once the new league year begins on March 13.

The moves leave the Commanders without a starting left tackle and tight end. Of course, these moves weren’t surprises. General manager Adam Peters has a plan for both positions.

Washington fans were often critical of Leno — too critical. Yes, the offensive line was a weakness under former head coach Ron Rivera, but Leno was a solid player. He just wasn’t Trent Williams. That’s the biggest knock against him.

In addition to being in the lineup every week, Leno was a standout off the field, too. Leno and Thomas were remembered fondly by several fans Friday after they were released.

The reality is, both players are over 30 and dealing with — or have dealt with injuries. The Commanders needed to upgrade both positions.

How did Twitter react to Washington’s moves on Friday?

Twitter reacts to UCLA hiring former Commanders/Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy

Social media reacts to Bieniemy heading back to the college game.

Former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has landed a new job. On Saturday, the UCLA Bruins hired Bieniemy as their new offensive coordinator/associate head coach. It’s a similar title to what he held during his lone season in Washington in 2023.

The Bruins were looking for a new offensive coordinator after former head coach Chip Kelly departed to take over as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator. The Bruins promoted UCLA alum and former NFL running back DeShaun Foster to head coach.

Bieniemy’s gamble in Washington didn’t work out well for him or the team. After the season, the Commanders fired head coach Ron Rivera, leaving Bieniemy free to pursue his options.

Bieniemys’ one season in Washington was polarizing. Some fans believed he could do no wrong, blaming everything on Rivera, the offensive line, Sam Howell, Dan Snyder, and virtually everyone else — except Bieniemy. Others, though, were ready for a change by midseason.

How did the social media world react to Bieniemy’s new job? We look at some of the top reactions from X — formerly Twitter.

Twitter reacts to Commanders’ coaching staff hires

The reactions are mostly all positives for the Commanders’ new coaching staff — and assistant GM hire.

Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris said one of new coach Dan Quinn’s strengths was his ability to bring elite people with him to Washington.

In two weeks on the job for the Commanders, Quinn has put together an impressive coaching staff consisting of two former head coaches (Kliff Kingsbury & Anthony Lynn) and four former coordinators (John Pagano, Ken Norton Jr., Brian Johnson & Larry Izzo), along with other respected coaches from around the NFL.

Quinn’s staff features a good mix of young and veteran coaches. Except for Washington’s hiring of offensive line coach Bobby Johnson — formerly of the Giants — the fan base has been excited about most of the hires.

Washington’s staff has been widely praised across the NFL, too.

On Wednesday, the Commanders hired Lynn, Darryl Tapp, and Tom Donatell. New GM Adam Peters also hired Lance Newmark away from the Detroit Lions as his assistant GM. Fans were having a good time with the moves.

It’s indeed a new day in Washington.

Here are some of the best reactions across X — formerly Twitter — regarding the Commanders’ new hires.

Twitter reacts to Commanders hiring Bobby Johnson as OL coach

It’s safe to say the Giants are laughing at the Commanders over this move.

When the Washington Commanders hired Kliff Kingsbury (offensive coordinator) and Joe Whitt Jr. (defensive coordinator) last week, the next highly anticipated hire would be on the offensive line.

Who would new head coach Dan Quinn pick as his first offensive line coach in Washington?

Quinn’s first choice was believed to be Dallas tight end coach Lunda Wells. However, the Cowboys denied Quinn permission to interview Wells. On Monday, Quinn hired former Bills and Giants offensive line coach Bobby Johnson as Washington’s O-Line coach.

A quick search of Johnson, and you’ll find he was let go by the Giants recently after two seasons. The Giants allowed 85 sacks in 2023, the most in the NFL and the second-most of all time. While New York’s problems weren’t all due to Johnson, Evan Neal, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, regressed badly.

You can blame injuries for part of New York’s OL woes, but every team has injuries. And when it was revealed that the Commanders had hired Johnson, Giants’ fans either laughed or felt sorry for Washington fans.

Here are some reactions to Johnson’s hiring — they aren’t positive.

Twitter reacts to Commanders hiring Kliff Kingsbury as OC

From Kevin Durant to the media and fans, Twitter reacts to Commanders hiring Kliff Kingsbury.

The Washington Commanders have a new offensive coordinator. On Sunday, they hired former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Kingsbury, 44, is a former college head coach and NFL head coach and had a three-year NFL playing career. He’s coached quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murry and Caleb Williams over the years.

With Washington holding to the No. 2 overall pick, Kingsbury’s appointment quickly led to speculation about the Commanders moving up to No. 1.

While Kingsbury’s head coaching record is below .500, the hope is he can be successful at the NFL level, focusing solely on the offense.

What did Washington fans think of the hire? Much like the Dan Quinn hire, feelings were mixed. We look at how media, fans and others reacted to Kingsbury’s hiring, beginning with Washington superfan Kevin Durant.

Twitter reacts to Cowboys DC Dan Quinn as new Commanders head coach

Is everyone overreacting to the news that Dan Quinn is the Commanders new head coach?

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was in Northern Virginia on Tuesday for his second interview with the Washington Commanders for their vacant head coaching position.

Shortly afterward, Washington boarded a plane to Detroit to interview Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. While the Commanders were in transit to Detroit, Johnson informed them he was withdrawing from consideration.

On Thursday, the Commanders hired Quinn, 53, who was one of eight interviewed for the position.

As expected, fans initially responded to Quinn’s hiring with skepticism, while everyone else in the NFL praised the hire.

Commanders’ fans react to Ben Johnson’s playcalling in the NFC Championship

The Lions may have lost, but Washington fans were watching their offensive coordinator and excited about Ben Johnson potentially becoming the Commanders next head coach.

The Detroit Lions looked well on their to the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, holding a 24-7 lead over the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.

Unfortunately for the Lions, a series of mistakes, from dropped passes and dropped interceptions to head coach Dan Campbell taking one too many gambles, doomed Detroit’s chances. The 49ers came back to win 34-31.

What did go right for the Lions? Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Johnson had the 49ers on their heels throughout the first half, whether through the running game, passing game, trick plays, or other means. Johnson played a pivotal role in helping Detroit jump out to a big lead.

While the Lions lost, Washington fans watched in anticipation. Johnson is considered the favorite to become the next Commanders’ head coach.

We look at some of the top Twitter reactions from Washington fans/media regarding Johnson potentially coming to the Commanders.

Twitter/X reacts to Arkansas guard Devo Davis’ absence from Razorbacks basketball

The best fans wish Davis the best. The other fans are comtempuous of the Arkansas guard. Wrongly.

Arkansas guard Devo Davis stepped away from the team, per a press release sent by the Razorbacks’ sports information department 10 minutes before Saturday’s tip against Kentucky.

The wording of the sentence is active, mind. Officially, the sentence in the release read “Arkansas senior guard Davonte Davis has stepped away from the program.” The way it’s written means that the move was Davis’ not anyone else’s.

Of course in the era of tight-lipped coaches, players and sports information departments, no reason was given. Nor will one be. That, of course, won’t stop people from speculating.

The closest we know is from ESPN analyst Jay Bilas, who called the game on Saturday. Bilas stated Davis as “AWOL,” meaning absent without leave. That means he took time away from the team without permission.

Reasons are irrelevant, really. Davis put in extreme effort in his three-plus seasons with the team and he very well could be back in a matter of days. Or not.

Let’s see how the always sane (read: never sane) folks on Twitter/X are reacting.
