WATCH: Travis Kelce scores first Chiefs touchdown of 2020 season

Kelce gets the touchdown of the season for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs have scored their first touchdown of the 2020 NFL season.

Everyone thought that they had a touchdown in the first quarter. Instead, we got to play everyone’s favorite game within the NFL called, “Is it a catch?” The pass was ultimately called back and considered a dropped pass by veteran WR Demarcus Robinson.

The team had to wait until the second quarter to get their first touchdown of the season. They were down seven and had their backs against the wall. So who stepped up and got open for the score? It was none other than Chiefs TE Travis Kelce.

The Chiefs had a third-and-goal scenario with over five yards to go to the endzone. Robinson actually helped Kelce score the touchdown, clearing out the area and creating space for Kelce to catch the ball cleanly. I mean what’s better than throwing the ball up to your star tight end in the endzone? A textbook way to start the season and tie up the game if you’re Kansas City.

95 Days Until Notre Dame Football (We Hope)

Notre Dame is scheduled to start their 2020 season in 95 days against Navy. Get your daily does of ND football here to count it down!

95 days from now Notre Dame is scheduled to take on Navy in college football’s Week Zero.  Will that happen?  We don’t actually know but we haven’t been told otherwise so we will continue to countdown the days until then.

If you’ve been following so far you’ve seen a few records and learned more about the players that set said records.

On Memorial Day we shared Deke Cooper’s Notre Dame record with you while sharing his biggest tackle with the Fighting Irish.

For 95 we go to a specific moment, one that purely electric from a player still catching touchdowns with regularity in the NFL.

95:  The total yards Kyle Rudolph trotted during his 2010 go-ahead touchdown reception against Michigan.

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI_I70F0XjI&w=560&h=315]

That 2010 game might not have ended how Notre Dame players or fans would have wanted but a big-time throw, big time catch and one heck of a run afterwards meant for a memorable moment.

Rudolph finished his Notre Dame career with 90 receptions for 1032 yards and eight touchdowns, at least one of which we’ll revisit again on this countdown.

95 days to go.

Go Irish.

97 Days Until Notre Dame Football (We Hope)

We’re 97 days from Notre Dame football returning, at least we hope. Get hyped for the Irish with your fact about 97 in ND lore now!

The countdown continues!

In 97 days (we hope) Notre Dame will return to the football field for Season 133 when the Irish take on Navy in a Week Zero affair.  Whether that game is played in Dublin, Washington, DC or in Annapolis, we’ll be even more excited than normal for it to get here.

Each day from now until Notre Dame kicks off the year we’ll count down the days with the number and why it’s significant in the history of Notre Dame football.

Saturday it was Josh Adams record touchdown run that got us through the 98 day mark.

Today we go back to special teams for the second time in the last three days.

97:  The longest punt return in Notre Dame football history, Ricky Watters against SMU in 1989.

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJnOhgxv0j4&w=560&h=315]

I was always told to never field a punt inside the ten yard line, let alone inside the five.  For some reason I don’t think Lou Holtz was too upset when Watters chose to return this one 97 yards against SMU in 1989.

Recapping All Notre Dame NFL Draft Picks

Cole Kmet “stays home” during quarantine and lands with hometown Chicago Bears.  Just how bad have things gone at tight end there that he’ll be counted on to fix?

This weekend saw six players from Notre Dame selected in the 2020 NFL Draft with another hand-full being signed to free agent deals.  Who landed in the best places to find success and which of the later picks or free agent signings will have the best chance of making a roster?

In our podcast with myself and Jeff Feyerer we discuss the landing spot of every Notre Dame player this draft season.

Did Chase Claypool get selected by the best franchise in football to get drafted by if you’re a wide receiver?

How much did Julian Okwara’s injury effect him falling to the third round and how many stories were better this weekend than him getting to play pro ball with his brother in Detroit?

We also analyze the rest of the picks:  Troy Pride, Jr., Khalid Kareem and Alohi Gilman before breaking down all of the undrafted free agents as well. Watch: Top Most Clutch Touchdown Receptions in Notre Dame History

Notre Dame has won a lot over the years. Enjoy the latest in the “NDTop10” series as the most-clutch touchdown catches are counted down.

Notre Dame today released their latest #NDTop10, this time highlighting the most clutch touchdown receptions in program history.  Some are obvious, some bring back memories you probably had forgotten and since it’s a list I’m sure someone will get upset.

I have one touchdown reception that was one of my favorite ever since I’ve watched Notre Dame football and it didn’t make the cut.  Before we discuss the list though we’ve of course got to watch the thing together, right?  So here it is, the 10 Most Clutch Touchdown Catches in the History of Notre Dame Football.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOlG6cz4STM&w=560&h=315]

A few thoughts I had while watching:

  • I had entirely forgotten about how close the 1999 Navy game was to disaster. I always remember 2003 going down to the wire, I had blocked the 1999 game from my memory.
  • I choose to remember Pat Dillingham for that pass to Battle and the Michigan State defensive back slipping instead of remembering what happened with Dillingham against Boston College that same season.
  • One question since a Michigan State game showed up – no Golden Tate into the Michigan State band in 2009?  Just over five minutes left not qualify as clutch enough?  Season wasn’t great but that moment certainly was.
  • Will Fuller to beat Virginia in 2015 or Jeff Samardzija to beat UCLA in 2006?  Samardzija’s saved a season that wound up in the BCS while Fuller’s moved Notre Dame to 2-0 in a season they’d ultimately win 10 games.  Toss-up, personally I would have had Samardzija’s ahead but the actual catch part of the play by Fuller is clearly more impressive.
  • I’d never previously seen the Bill Shakespeare pass to Wayne Millner to beat Ohio State in 1935 before today.  Props to the video team for hunting down and posting that video.

Fun list and outside of Golden Tate not being on it I really have no problems whatsoever with it.  Some stuff I’d never actually seen in there so that’s a fun way to spend four or so minutes.

Watch the Seattle Dragons score the XFL’s first touchdown

Brandon Silvers threw a strike up the middle for the league’s first touchdown in its season opener.

It’s official. After years of waiting for its return, the XFL is finally back in action.

The Seattle Dragons scored the first touchdown in season opener against the D.C. Defenders. After driving 67 yards up the field, Quarterback Brandon Silvers hit Austin Proehl on his way into the endzone for a 14-yard score.

It wasn’t an easy throw, either. Proehl was caught in between two defenders on his way into the endzone. Silvers had to put the ball on the money up the middle to score the league’s first touchdown. Take a look.

On the next play, Silvers wasn’t so good. He threw an interception on the team’s extra point attempt.

Still, great first touchdown. XFL football is BYKE, baby.

WATCH: Texas’ new coach Andre Coleman scores touchdown in Super Bowl

Earlier this month, Texas announced the hiring of Andre Coleman as the teams wide receivers coach.

Texas officially announced the hiring of Andre Coleman as the new wide receivers coach earlier this month.

Coleman has quite the resume of experience with coaching, but did you know he played five seasons in the National Football League as a wide receiver and kick returner? More notably, Coleman played in Super Bowl XXIX as a rookie.

Coleman set many then-records in Super Bowl XXIX. Most kickoff returns in a game (8), most return yards/total yards (244). Although records are made to be broken, Coleman is still tied for the second-longest kickoff return in Super Bowl history.

Seahawks peak performer: Wide receiver Tyler Lockett shines in Green Bay

Seattle Seahawks wideout Tyler Lockett truly shined in the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, finishing the day as the peak performer.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett had himself a banner night in Green Bay, although it wasn’t enough to give Seattle the win. The Seahawks fell to the Packers 28-23, ending their 2019 campaign.

Lockett, however, was one of the bright spots in the game Sunday afternoon, helping to keep the Seahawks firmly in the action.

Quarterback Russell Wilson connected with Lockett late in the third quarter for the score to narrow the Packers’ lead.

Lockett finished the day as the team’s leading receiver, hauling in nine catches on 10 targets for 136 yards and a touchdown.

And as usual, Wilson’s No. 1 target was right where he needed him to be, including during this amazing play featuring one heck of a hit. Lockett managed to hold onto the ball, a crucial catch for Seattle.

Although the season may be over, Lockett and Wilson are just getting started – only one year removed from Doug Baldwin heading the roster. It’s safe to expect bigger and better things from these two in the future.
