Texas DT Byron Murphy II grew up on Seahawks, Marshawn Lynch

Sometimes a prospect just seems destined to go to a certain team.

Sometimes a prospect just seems destined to go to a certain team. With one day to go before the draft, it seems possible that the stars are aligning for Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II and the Seattle Seahawks.

We learned a lot about Murphy via a piece earlier this week from Greg Riddle at the Dallas Morning News, including the nugget that he grew up wanting to play running back and emulated Marshawn Lynch. Murphy was also a fan of the Legion of Boom era Seahawks despite being in Cowboys country.

“I used to love watching Adrian Peterson, and I used to love Marshawn Lynch. I used to try to model my game after them… When he met Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Murphy says, ‘They loved me, they love how I play.’ But even though he’s from DeSoto, the Cowboys weren’t his favorite team growing up. ‘I used to like the Seattle Seahawks,’ Murphy said. ‘The Legion of Boom era, with Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Bennett.’”

For most of draft season Murphy has been projected to be a late first-round pick, generally projected to come off the board in the 20s. However, his stock has risen fast late in the game and now some analysts believe he could be a top-10 pick.

Murphy says he has been told that he won’t slip past No. 16…

Why Mike Macdonald removed old Seahawks murals from team facility

Why Mike Macdonald removed old Seahawks murals from team facility

As I have written multiple times in regards to new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, it is the dawn of a new era in Seattle. This could not possibly be more evident than it is right now with the recent redecoration reports.

Macdonald has removed iconic murals from the team facility, images of some of the greatest moments in Seahawks history – specifically ones created in the past 14 years. Moments such as:

  • The BeastQuake
  • Richard Sherman’s tip
  • Russell Wilson being emotional after the win over the Packers in the NFC Championship game
  • Kam Chancellor forcing a fumble of Calvin Johnson Jr.
  • Hoisting the Lombardi Trophy

Why are these iconic moments gone? Why are the walls at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center left bare? Why are all remnants of the Pete Carroll era seemingly… erased?

Two words: new legacy. Macdonald is sending a clear message to his new team, he wants them to forge a new way forward. Create new moments and memories, something to define this new era. In the words of Star Wars villain Kylo Ren, “let the past die.”

Such a move is certainly far more than curious. Dave “Softy” Mahler mentioned on Twitter how it is hard to imagine other teams, such as the Green Bay Packers or the loathsome Steelers or 49ers erasing their histories, especially their Golden Years. Yes, make no mistake, the Carroll era was the height (so far?) of the Seahawks franchise.

But perhaps there might be some mad genius to this unusual method. Perhaps Macdonald’s new tactic can help inspire his young team to push themselves to new heights. To feel a sense of freedom of not being trapped by the past.

So far, it has not seemed to ruffle feathers. Macdonald’s new players seem to sing nothing but his praises. Julian Love, Uchenna Nwosu, Leonard Williams, Devon Witherspoon and Charles Cross have all been effusive in their enthusiasm for their new coach.

How Raiders legends Jim Plunkett, Marshawn Lynch came to star in episode of Lopez vs Lopez

We spoke with the casting director for NBC’s Lopez vs Lopez about how it came to be Raiders legends Jim Plunkett, Marshawn Lynch starred in this week’s episode

If you are a fan of the Raiders and of comedy, you are going to want to head over to NBC or peacock to check out this week’s episode of Lopez vs Lopez. Because this week it’s LOPEZ VS RAIDER NATION!

Raiders legends Jim Plunkett and Marshawn Lynch star in the newest episode and you know wherever Marshawn goes, hilarity ensues. All that and Plunk too? Whaaaat?

I was intrigued by how such a thing came together, so I reached out to casting director G Charles Wright to give me the details. In the words of George Lopez himself ‘What had happened was…’

“Al Madrigal – one of our actors who plays Oscar – is a Raiders fan,” said Wright. “He showed some interest in wanting to do something that involved the Raiders.”

For that matter, George Lopez himself is well known as a Raiders fan. He’s been seen many times on the sidelines during games in his Raiders gear and even lit the Al Davis torch before a game in Oakland back in 2017.

With the Raiders fan connection well established, from there it was about figuring out who would be on the show. The first answer quickly presented itself.

You see, George Lopez is good friends with Marshawn Lynch aka Beast Mode who is an Oakland native and finished his NFL career for his now former hometown Raiders in 2017-18.

“The writers reached out to me and said ‘can we get Marshawn to play himself,’ Wright continued. “So I pitched the idea to his agent and his manager to have him appear as himself. . . And we talked about it, talked about what we wanted to do on the episode. Went over all that stuff with him, talked about how comfortable he is playing himself and what he’s comfortable doing and not comfortable doing. And worked an episode around that.”

This is where Plunk comes in…

“That all gets set and then Al Madrigal was at a Raiders game with his friends the Plunketts and he’s telling Jim’s daughter Meghan about Marshawn being on the show. And Jim says ‘That’s amazing, could I be on the show? Do you think they’d let me be on the show too? I don’t even have to get paid, I could just be an extra.’

“And Al brought that news to my writers and my writers reached out to me and said ‘Hey, we hear Jim Plunkett would like to do this and he doesn’t even want to be paid.’ And then I had to tell the writers that ‘Um, everybody has to be paid.’

“I worked out a deal with them and my writers wrote him in. As soon as we heard Jim wanted to do the show they figured out a role for him.”

It’s always crazy to think a show can come together like this. In much the same way a coach designs his scheme around his best players; something Marshawn and Plunk experienced firsthand in their legendary careers, with both being the centerpiece of their team’s offense on the way to championships.

With the two of them on the roster, I mean in the cast, it was time to put it on the field. Er, set, rather.

“Marshawn came in, Jim came in,” Wright said. “They flew in, we put them up at the same hotel, they hung out all day, they took the same private shuttle van from their hotel to the set. And just had a blast together all day during the show and signing autographs with our cast and crew and taking photos with them. It was great. . . Jim had never done anything like this before so it was all new to him and he really had a blast. . . And Jim got his SAG card!”

Chalk up another accomplishment for Jim Plunkett as he is now a member of the Screen Actors Guild.

Though many believe there is still one accomplishment eluding the two-time Super Bowl winning QB. And you can best believe that made its way into the show. As Wright noted “They even made a joke in the script about how Plunkett should be in the Hall of Fame.”

The most recent episode of Lopez vs Lopez aired Tuesday night on NBC and is now also streaming on the Peacock app.

Marshawn Lynch had a special message for 49ers fans at the Super Bowl

Easily one of the most beloved Seattle sports icons is former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.

Easily one of the most beloved Seattle sports icons is former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. Known for his punishing running style, Lynch went from not exactly being a talkative player, to one of the most unique personalities in all of American pop culture. Every so often Lynch pops up on social media to remind everyone that he is a truly one-of-one kind of man.

This brings us to Super Bowl LVIII in Sin City, where Lynch gave a reminder to the 12th Man about his loyalty to Seattle. With the San Francisco 49ers in yet another Super Bowl, Sunday may not have been the easiest game to stomach for the 12’s, who were desperate to avoid the 49ers from winning it all. Fortunately for them, Lynch was in town to give a special message to San Francisco fans who showed up for the big game.

Disclaimer: Lynch’s message was NSFW. It can be viewed in the tweet below, but watch with caution.

Thankfully, the Kansas City Chiefs made sure a sixth Lombardi would not be making its way to the Bay Area. The 49ers squandered an opportunity to end their now-30-year championship drought when they lost 25-22 in overtime.

The 12th Man may not have much to say to the 49ers when it comes to head to head matchups, as San Francisco has won the previous five meetings. But sometimes in sports, rooting for your rival’s downfall can be a decent consolation prize. Having this video from Marshawn Lynch will surely bring a chuckle around the Pacific Northwest today.

10-point blueprint for the Seahawks in the 2024 offseason

Today is the 10-year anniversary of Richard Sherman’s famous tip

A superstar was born and the Seahawks were on to the Super Bowl.

The NFL hasn’t seen a rivalry quite like the one the Seahawks and 49ers shared last decade. While they are still bitter division rivals, the animosity and the competition were on another level between these two when Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll were roaming the sidelines while Marshawn Lynch and Frank Gore were crashing into equally-lethal defensive fronts. The games were always close and intensely physical, the sobering sound of each tackle echoing an era of more brutal football.

10 years ago today was the peak of that rivalry – culminating in the 2013 NFC Championship game. Seattle clinched the win thanks to a tipped pass by Richard Sherman in the end zone that was intended for Michael Crabtree. A superstar was born and the Seahawks were on to the Super Bowl.

Fast forward a decade and Sherman is now a part of the media class he so relentlessly mocked during his career, Colin Kaepernick has been blackballed since 2016, Harbaugh is a distant contender to replace Carroll as Seattle’s head coach and nobody’s heard from Crabtree in years.

Marshawn Lynch – yes, that Marshawn Lynch – is nominated for an Independent Spirit Award

Marshawn Lynch is officially an awards nominee for his film acting.

Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has accomplished what very few former NFL players have been able to: he’s been nominated for a major film award.

Lynch earned a Best Breakthrough Performance nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards on Tuesday for his performance in Emma Seligman comedy Bottoms.

The NFL alumnus played Mr. G in the comedy, a foul-mouthed teacher who works at the school where the film’s two leads attend.

Lynch has compiled an impressive list of television credits with appearances on shows like Westworld, Murderville, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The League.

While he made a cameo in this year’s NFL-centric comedy 80 for Brady, Bottoms represents his first big role in a major motion picture.

The Indie Spirit nomination is his first major recognition for his acting career. He won a Super Bowl with Seattle in 2014 and is widely regarded as one of the most beloved players of his generation.

Marshawn Lynch previewed the Seattle Kraken’s Winter Classic jersey and hilariously did not want to give it back

Marshawn Lynch is forever a national treasure.

Marshawn Lynch must be protected at all costs.

A few years back, Lynch gave us one of the best mic’d up moments that TV has ever offered (in my totally biased opinion) when cameras caught him in a wholesome exchange with Richard Sherman about giving out turkeys during Thanksgiving. “Trying to restore my community!” Perfection.

The legend is back as the Seattle Kraken enlisted Lynch’s help in promoting their new Winter Classic jersey. There’s just one catch.

The team let him preview the gear but pranked him by throwing his old playing number on it, telling him it was one-of-a-kind and insinuating that it was for promotional purposes only.

In true Marshawn fashion, he hilariously gave them absolute grief over it.

Calling celebrities “national treasures” is a rather common phrase in our current collective lexicon, but sometimes it’s more than appropriate. Take for example former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. During his playing days, Lynch was already one of the more unique personalities, but a quiet one.

Now that he is a retired man, Lynch has gone full-blown celebrity, famous for his remarkable personality, and we’re all better for it. Recently, Lynch visited the Big Easy to “apologize” for his legendary BeastQuake run against the hometown Saints.

Like the Tweet says, Marshawn Lynch is indeed a national treasure.
