WATCH: Badgers RB Tawee Walker caps dominant first half with touchdown vs. Rutgers

Wisconsin running back Tawee Walker continued his strong play during the first half of the Badgers’ Week 7 game at Rutgers.

The veteran running back took 18 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown during the half of the contest as the Badgers built a strong two-touchdown lead.

Walker was fantastic in most down-and-distance situations. He and the Badgers ran the ball well in short-yardage situations, on first-and-10 and in every scenario in between, excelling behind a Wisconsin offensive line that continues to play like the best unit on the team.

Walker’s strong first half is highlighted by this two-yard touchdown plunge with time winding down in the first quarter. Wisconsin faced a 4th-and-1 from the Rutgers 2-yard-line. QB Braedyn Locke handed the shotgun snap to Walker, who had little trouble crossing the goal line.

Wisconsin failed to add any further points onto its lead over Rutgers. The Badgers currently sit in halftime with a 14-0 advantage on the scoreboard after a dominant half in every facet.

Walker’s continued emergence is great news for a Wisconsin team that is in search of an offensive identity. He should continue to be a focal point once the second half kicks off.

One more time: Bills’ Keon Coleman takes it 49 yards to the house

One more time: Bills’ Keon Coleman takes it 49 yards to the house

The Buffalo Bills are busy preparing to take on the New York Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 6.

Before we go there, let’s look back at Week 5.

The Bills (3-2) fell to the Houston Texans, 23-20. Although there wasn’t much to celebrate in the loss, rookie Keon Coleman’s long touchdown is worth a second look.On a crucial fourth-and-five in the third quarter, Coleman caught a pass on a curl and ran up the sideline for a TD. The play was huge for the Bills, bringing them within three points.

For Coleman, the 49-yard catch-and-run was the longest play of his young career. Although it was his only catch of the game, plays like this will grow the trust Josh Allen has in him.

He now has two touchdowns through five weeks of his young career.

Before looking forward to the Jets (2-3), let’s take one last look at the play:

Chiefs vs. Saints: Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy combine for nifty touchdown

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and WR Xavier Worthy combined on this highlight-reel touchdown during Kansas City’s Week 5 matchup against the #Saints

The Kansas City Chiefs are on track to earn their fifth win of the 2024 regular season against the New Orleans Saints on “Monday Night Football.”

After a wild interception by former Chiefs defensive lineman Khalen Saunders led to a Saints touchdown that cut Kansas City’s lead to three points, Patrick Mahomes quickly marched the defending Super Bowl champions downfield.

The Chiefs hit paydirt to score a touchdown after coming out in a funky pistol formation that had tight end Travis Kelce receive the snap from center Creed Humphrey before he handed the ball off to rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who wriggled into the end zone.

Take a look at the tricky play, which was posted by the Chiefs’ official Twitter account:

Though plenty of time remains for New Orleans to make a fourth-quarter comeback, this play by Kelce and Worthy gave Kansas City a ten-point lead when kicker Harrison Butker nailed his extra-point try.

Stay tuned if the Chiefs can advance to 5-0 heading into their bye week.

Derek Carr connects with Rashid Shaheed for another deep TD

It’s been a while since Derek Carr and Rashid Shaheed connected on a deep shot. Shaheed continues to show why he’s an elite threat downfield:

The New Orleans Saints are on the board. Derek Carr connected with Rashid Shaheed streaking down the middle of the field for a 43-yard touchdown. This is the first time the two have connected for a deep touchdown since Week 2.

This is Shaheed’s 9th touchdown reception of 30 or more yards since entering the league. That ties him with Hypothetical Future Saint Davante Adams for the most touchdown catches of that distance in the timeframe. Nevermind, this isn’t time for that.

This throw from Carr traveled 50.6 yards in the air. If you remove the touchdown caveat, this is Shaheed’s 9th catch of his career that traveled more than 50 yards in the air. That’s the most in the NFL since 2022. Shaheed holds that title all by himself, per Next Gen Stats.

The Saints hadn’t utilized Chris Olave much to start the game. He’d only seen one targe, while Carr threw to Shaheed five times in the first half. This was the first big connection.

Chiefs vs. Saints: Kareem Hunt scores touchdown in return to Arrowhead Stadium

#Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt scored a touchdown in his first game back at Arrowhead Stadium against the #Saints on ‘Monday Night Football’

The Kansas City Chiefs wasted no time getting things going against the New Orleans Saints on “Monday Night Football.”

After an interception by safety Bryan Cook on the Saints’ first possession, quarterback Patrick Mahomes marched Kansas City’s offense down the field with ease.

Tight end Travis Kelce, who has struggled to begin the year, routinely found holes in New Orleans’ coverage and tallied 31 yards on the Chiefs’ first drive.

However, it was veteran running back Kareem Hunt who scored the game’s first points on a carry near the goal line in his return to Arrowhead Stadium.

Take a look at this video of Hunt’s touchdown against the Saints, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

If Mahomes and Hunt can continue to dissect New Orleans’ defense as they did on Kansas City’s first drive, the Chiefs may be able to continue their undefeated streak heading into their bye week.

WATCH: Wisconsin WR Trech Kekahuna breaks away for 69-yard touchdown vs. Purdue

WATCH: Wisconsin WR Trech Kekahuna breaks away for 69-yard touchdown vs. Purdue

Wisconsin is on its way to its third win of the 2024 season, and first in Big Ten play. The Badgers currently lead the Purdue Boilermakers 28-6 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

While the score discrepancy is significant, Wisconsin has not played the cleanest game thus far. QB Braedyn Locke has thrown two interceptions — takeaways became Purdue’s first and second of the season, respectively.

But the Badgers have dominated in the red zone with two touchdowns on two possessions. Purdue, meanwhile, has kicked field goals on each of its two red zone trips.

One other big difference between the two teams is explosive plays. Wisconsin has connected on two explosive touchdowns, one to Vinny Anthony and another to redshirt freshman Trech Kekahuna.

Kekahuna’s touchdown is the highlight of the afternoon thus far. Wisconsin’s offensive line gave Locke hours to find an open receiver, which he did. The speedster Kekahuna then did the rest:

Locke is 12 for 21 passing on the afternoon for 216 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Kekahuna leads the way with five receptions, 109 yards and the one touchdown.

Wisconsin is looking to hold onto its first victory since defeating South Dakota 27-13 back on Sept. 7.

Alvin Kamara is our pick for Saints Offensive Player of September

Alvin Kamara has been the best player on the team through four weeks, silencing his doubters. He is our pick for Saints Offensive Player of September:

Alvin Kamara is the New Orleans Saints’ unequivocal offensive MVP through the first month of the season. There is little question of who has been the best player not only on the offense but the team in general.

This was the exact impact Klint Kubiak was supposed to have when he came into New Orleans. Dennis Allen hired Kubiak to rejuvenate a stagnant offense. The Shannahan-Kubiak system is the most sought after offensive scheme in the league and it starts with the running backs.

Kamara seemed to be held back by how he was used. Kamara’s strong start to the season only further confirmed this belief. He is back to being dynamic in the run game and the passing attack. The latter had faded recently without the creative routes and opportunities we saw earlier in his career.

Kamara has the most rushing touchdowns and scrimmage yards in the NFL going into Week 5. He’s taken the increased workload and is turning it into one of the most productive seasons in his career.

Some questioned if Kamara lost his explosiveness. The answer is clearly no. In a contract year, the start to the season has silenced many doubters.

The Saints might need one more year from Jimmy Graham after all

The Saints might need one more year from Jimmy Graham after all. The tight ends on their roster aren’t getting the job done:

Maybe the New Orleans Saints were too quick to give Jimmy Graham a polite “thanks, but no thanks” when he expressed interest in running it back this summer. The team lacks a big-bodied target in the red zone, and that flaw has stood out in their recent losses. He’s well past handling a starring role on offense, but Graham can help a team in a bit part.

Graham was bafflingly efficient last year, especially in the red zone. He was thrown to 7 times and caught 6 passes for 39 yards, either converting a first  down or scoring a touchdown every time. All four of his touchdowns were scored inside the opposing 20-yard line.

The Saints could have used that kind of efficiency against the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. Derek Carr attempted six throws inside Atlanta’s 20-yard line. Here’s how they turned out:

  • 1st and 10 from the 20: Pass complete to Rashid Shaheed for 5  yards
  • 2nd and 2 from the 17: Pass incomplete intended for Alvin Kamara
  • 3rd and 2 from the 17: Pass complete to Chris Olave for 16 yards
  • 3rd and 5 from the  15: Pass complete to Mason Tipton for 6 yards
  • 4th and 7 from the 7: Pass incomplete intended for Rashid Shaheed
  • 2nd and 5 from the 5: Pass incomplete intended for Rashid Shaheed

So that’s three completions and two first downs on six tries in scoring position. That’s clearly not good enough. Five of those passes were thrown to wide receivers; neither Juwan Johnson nor Foster Moreau are getting open and making plays in the passing game, which is really concerning when the Saints only have two viable wideouts working in a run-first offense. Moreau caught a touchdown pass in Week 1 but since then he and Johnson have combined for just three catches and 16 yards through three games.

What’s the answer? Getting Graham out of his kayak and back into town? Giving the rookie Dallin Holker some reps? Lining up Johnson out wide, where he played in college? Using Taysom Hill more often as a receiver than a runner? Any of those solutions would be more affordable and more realistic than a big-time trade for someone like Baltimore Ravens decoy Mark Andrews, but it’s still a problem the Saints need to solve. Let’s see what answer they come up with.

WATCH: Former Wisconsin running back scores game-winning touchdown for Texans

WATCH: Former Wisconsin running back scores game-winning touchdown for Texans

Former Wisconsin running back Dare Ogunbowale was the hero for the Houston Texans in their 24-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

He took two carries for seven rushing yards, plus added four receptions for 47 receiving yards and a touchdown.

That touchdown was the game-winner for the Texans. Quarterback C.J. Stroud took the snap from the Jaguars’ 1 yard-line with only 22 seconds remaining in the game. Jacksonville led 20-17 and neither team had any timeouts remaining.

Stroud faked a handoff, rolled right and found Ogunbowale wide open rolling into the end zone:

2024 is Ogunbowale’s eighth NFL season after playing at Wisconsin from 2012-2016. He initially walked-on with the Badgers as a defensive back. He made the switch to running back two weeks into the 2014 season, which led to a strong college career and a professional tenure that continues to grow more impressive.

Sunday’s game-winner was only the second receiving touchdown of his long career, and sixth overall score. The former Badger has not even rushed for more than 145 total yards in a season since joining the NFL in 2017.

Sometimes, longevity comes in other forms. Ogunbowale has long made a significant impact on special teams, highlighted by serving as the Texans’ emergency kicker last season. That has cemented his status on the Texans’ roster for the last three seasons, and on the Jaguars’ roster for two years before that.

The former Badger is now even catching game-winning touchdowns. His success is a fantastic story after entering the college level as a walk-on cornerback.

Chiefs vs. Chargers: RB Samaje Perine scores go-ahead touchdown

#Chiefs RB Samaje Perine scored a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown to give Kansas City a lead over the #Chargers in Week 4.

The Kansas City Chiefs finally found some much-needed offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter of their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

After a disastrous start to the game, which included two turnovers and potentially serious injury to wide receiver Rashee Rice, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense had to adjust.

The Chiefs’ defense held up their end of the bargain, and with the game on the line in the fourth quarter, running back Samaje Perine delivered the decisive blow against the Chargers by scoring a touchdown that gave Kansas City a late lead.

Take a look at the go-ahead score by the former Cincinnati Bengal, which was posted by the Chiefs’ official Twitter account:

Kansas City had no problem closing out the game and eventually secured victory to advance their regular season record to 4-0.

Expect to see Mahomes and Perine back in action against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5.
