Top 12: Quarterbacks ranked by last season’s QBR

Jalon Daniels of Kansas leads this talented group, but should he really be No. 1?

There is more than one way to skin a cat and there is more than one way to look at the value of the quarterback position.

Some evaluators will use the Pro Football Focus grades, while others prefer passer ratings or EPA. For this exercise, College Sports Wire is focusing on the QBR metric generated by ESPN.

Per ESPN, the metric values “the quarterback on all play types on a 0-100 scale adjusted for the strength of opposing defenses faced.”

Of the top 50 quarterbacks ranked by total QBR, CSW reviews the top 12 passers who return to the collegiate gridiron in the 2023 season. A total of four quarterbacks graded higher than the Heisman Trophy winner and two will return for another campaign.

Jamar Cain, LSU offer the No. 1 athlete in the country

The nation’s top athlete picks up offer from LSU.

Jamar Cain and the LSU coaching staff are on the hunt for the next great Tigers pass rushing. They recently offered the No. 1 athlete in the country who projects best as an edge rusher.

Samuel M’Pemba told On3, that he already had a relationship with Cain. That will come in handy for the Tigers who are looking to jump in the race for one of the top 10 players in the country. Back in September, M’Pemba listed the LSU Tigers among his top 12 schools but only recently picked up an offer from the staff.

“I’m blessed (to get one) from the new staff, new team,” M’Pemba told On3Sports. “I have a great relationship with him since he’s been at Oklahoma. Great coach, better person. We’ve built a relationship for a while and he’s been recruiting me for a while.” via The Bengal Tiger (On3)
