Tim Settle returns to Bills practice after sitting out with injury

Tim Settle returns to #Bills practice after sitting out with injury:

The first Buffalo Bills player to sustain an injury during 2023 training camp returned to the field after only missing one workout.

On Tuesday, the sixth outing of Bills training camp, Buffalo defensive tackle Tim Settle watched practice from the sideline. The team announced that was due to a groin injury.

The 26-year-old left the practice field on Monday, Buffalo’s first session with full pads and hitting. Settle later returned but ended up sitting out Tuesday’s session.

While on the side watching, Settle was not seen to have any sort of limp and he did not appear to be in any pain. The ensuing day on Wednesday the team had off so it read all along as a precautionary measure.

That turned out to be the case as Settle returned to the practice field at St. John Fisher University on Thursday. In addition, safety Jordan Poyer did as well. Poyer had a veteran rest day the same practice Settle sat out.

Bills Wire will continue to bring updates throughout 2023 training camp.

Tim Settle misses Day 6 of Bills training camp due to injury

Tim Settle misses Day 6 of #Bills training camp due to injury:

Tim Settle was not on the field for the sixth day of Buffalo Bills 2023 training camp at St. John Fisher University.

The defensive tackle is the first notable player to miss a training camp practice due to injury, discounting those who began the summer on the PUP list such as Von Miller. None of the players who began training camp on the PUP list have been activated.

Settle, 26, left the practice field on Monday, Buffalo’s first session with full pads and hitting. Settle later returned but ended up sitting out Tuesday’s session.

The Bills have a day off scheduled for Wednesday. Considering that and Settle returning to the field when originally hurt, it reads as a precautionary measure.

Settle also was not walking with any sort of limp on the sideline while he watched practice. Here is a Batavia Daily News clip showing Settle on Tuesday at St. John Fisher University:

In addition to Settle, the team announced that safety Jordan Poyer was given a veteran rest day.

Who are locks to make the Bills’ 53-man roster on defense?

Who are locks to make the #Bills’ 53-man roster on defense?

The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for the start of 2023 training camp. Players are going to be fighting for both playing time and roster spots.

But if we’re being honest, some of those positions on the team are already sorted out.

Here is every player on the Bills roster that is already a roster lock to make the team on defense:

Bills teammates join Von Miller at his annual pass-rush summit

#Bills teammates join Von Miller at his annual pass-rush summit:

Since 2017, Buffalo Bills defensive end Von Miller has held an annual “pass-rush summit” each offseason.

He gathers up some of the top pass-rushing talents from across the NFL and they all get together, workout, and watch film for a few days. It’s a chance to share tricks of the trade in an effort for everyone to get better.

The 2023 edition went down this past weekend and a few of Miller’s teammates with the Bills were in attendance once again.

According to the Buffalo News, here’s which teammates joined Miller during the event outside of Las Vegas:

Bills, Tim Settle agree to renegotiate deal for 2023

#Bills, Tim Settle agree to renegotiate deal for 2023:

The Buffalo Bills and defensive tackle Tim Settle agreed on a renegotiated contract for 2023 which opened up a bit of cap space.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the new contract saves the Bills $600,000 toward the salary cap next season.

A follow-up report from the Buffalo News specified that Settle’s new deal will now be $2.1 million guaranteed and have incentives mixed in which could net him up to $4.41M.

Settle, 25, originally had a $4.9M cap hit heading into 2023. Because of that, Settle was a cap causality candidate, which is really the bigger news here.

Settle will not be released by Buffalo after reworking his deal and he will be back in their defensive line rotation next season.

Settle originally signed with the Bills last offseason via a two-year deal.

In his first season in Buffalo, Settle appeared in 35 percent of the team’s defensive snaps along the Bills’ defensive line rotation. Settle recorded 19 tackles, four for loss, one sack, two quarterback hits, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one pass defended.

With Settle’s minimal help toward the salary cap, the Bills are still approximately $11M still over next year’s cap, which means there will be more contract updates to come. Bills Wire will provide that information as it’s made available.

Bills’ Tim Settle predicted first sack would come vs. Packers

#Bills’ Tim Settle predicted first sack would come vs. #Packers:

One of this season’s newest editions to the Bills defense had a bold prediction going into Sunday’s clash with the Packers.

DT tackle Tim Settle, who signed with Buffalo during free agency, caught QB Aaron Rodgers double-checking his discount receiving corps during Green Bay’s opening drive, sacking him for a seven-yard loss to put their offense at third-and-15. They would punt two plays later.

Settle’s sack was his first as a Bill and first since Week 12 of the 2020 season, during which he’d have a career-best five total while playing for Washington.

What’s more, Settle predicted the sack, something teammate Von Miller shared after the game.

“We came in on Wednesday, he was like, ‘Man, I’m gonna go crazy, I’m gonna get a sack, I’m gonna pop it off this week,'” Miller noted during his media availability. “He (Settle) said, ‘I’m gonna be the one that get a sack.'”

Settle made good on the guarantee, turning in his best game as a Bill to date.

He would also tip the Rodgers pass later in the game that LB Matt Milano intercepted.

“So those are two big-time factor plays we call them,” head coach Sean McDermott said, commending the DT during his postgame press conference. “Obviously the sack, and then the tipped pass getting your hands up on the ball that came out low or came out quick.”

Settle broke down the play a bit, noting after the game “I was just keeping it tight, just rushing tight,” he said per Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News. “They had turned the protection, and I ended up getting a guard one-on-one, and I just took him inside, and I was able to get my hands up.”

As Settle had been feeling a sense of urgency about ending his cold spell, he noted that getting the sack was “relieving”, adding “I didn’t want my dad talking about me getting no sacks.”

“Plays are hard to come by,” he shared. “(You) gotta eat a little greedy on this line. But stay at it. If I can make some big plays, it’s going to help contribute to what we’ve already been doing. Everybody has a game where they have a (big) game, but I’m happy I was able to get my sack today.”

The effort, both on gamedays as well as in practice, has caught the eye of his teammates as well.

“It’s been great,” DE Rousseau said. “The energy he brings to the room and the personality, and obviously with the big plays he made tonight. I mean, he’s a great dude, great player.”
