Bills sign P Matt Haack as precaution ahead of divisional round vs. Chiefs

#Bills sign Matt Haack as Sam Martin precaution:

The Buffalo Bills are making sure to cover all their punting bases as their postseason journey continues.

During the Bills’ 31-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, a slew of injuries hit the team. Among them was punter Sam Martin, who pulled up after running after a ball carrier. It appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Martin managed to punt one more time against Pittsburgh, but he was in some pain.

As a precaution, Buffalo brought back punter Matt Haack to the practice squad. In the event Martin cannot play against the Kansas City Chiefs in the upcoming divisional round, Haack will take over the duties.

Haack is a familiar name as he punted for the team in 2021. Haack wasn’t great, averaging 37.6 yards per punt. However, he has experience working alongside kicker Tyler Bass. His experience holding for Bass is another factor that likely led to Haack being re-signed.

Bills Wire will continue to provide all injury updates ahead of the divisional round.

Report card: #Bills fall 37-34 in overtime at #EaglesL

The Buffalo Bills took an opportunity to build on their push toward the playoffs in Week 12 against the Philadelphia Eagles and squandered it.

Buffalo (6-6) lost 37-34 in overtime against Philadelphia (10-1). Now the Bills have to take the defeat and push it far, far away. From here, the Bills will hope their march toward the postseason does not fall short for the first time since 2018.

Buffalo’s game plans fell short, and in the end, that was reflected by the final score.

The same can be said for the grades the team received following the contest, too.

Buffalo Bills vs. Denver Broncos: Team connections

We can start with the obvious one:

The Buffalo Bills will host the Denver Broncos in their upcoming Week 10 matchup.

It’s a brand new NFL weekend with plenty on the line for both teams. But for some on the Bills (5-4) and Broncos (3-5) there is a bit more at stake than the others.

That’s because some players and coaches for both teams could be playing against their former club. That can create a little bit of extra motivation for them heading into Monday.

With that, here’s a quick list of connections the two teams have with one another ahead of the upcoming matchup at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park:

Report card: Bills top Buccaneers, 24-18

Report card: #Bills top #Buccaneers, 24-18:

The Buffalo Bills were riding high for, what felt like, nearly the entire game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8.

Still, with only seconds on the clock, the Bucs (3-4) had a look at the win.

Thankfully for the Bills (5-3), a last-second Hail Mary attempt from Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield fell short–and in a bizarre twist wasn’t even touched by any player–in Buffalo’s end zone.

The Bills held on for the win, but did that unexpectedly close game harm their grades?

5 takeaways from the Bills’ 24-18 win over the Buccaneers

5 takeaways from the #Bills’ 24-18 win over the #Buccaneers:

The Buffalo Bills have had a tough past month. Up-and-down play, over and over again.

They’ll be hoping that is well behind them.

After going up early on the Buccaneers (3-4) in their Week 8 Thursday Night Football matchup, the Bills (5-3) allowed a bit of a comeback. A turnover put the Bucs in position to tie the game at 10 in the first quarter, and they did.

From there, Buffalo didn’t miss a beat. The Bills offense of old showed up and crushed Tampa Bay. Buffalo got into a rhythm that couldn’t be slowed down.

With that, here are five takeaways from the Bills’ 24-18 win over the Buccaneers in Week 8:

Bills punter Sam Martin made the most pathetic tackle attempt on the Jets’ walk-off TD

Sam Martin made one of the worst tackle attempts we’ll ever see.

It’ll be forgotten in the shuffle of the devastating Aaron Rodgers injury, but the Buffalo Bills seemingly did everything possible to lose their Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets. On offense, Josh Allen had four turnovers (three picks and one fumble). It’s fair to wonder what’s wrong with the Bills’ superstar signal caller.

And on special teams — with electric returner Xavier Gipson threatening to end the game on an overtime punt — Buffalo punter Sam Martin made one of the worst tackle attempts you’ll ever see in an NFL game. Seriously, at the very least, Martin could’ve gotten in Gipson’s way and impeded his progress.

Instead, he threw a weird armbar that Gipson easily avoided en route to a shocking walk-of winner.

I’ve seen many terrible football plays by punters over the years. There’s a reason they just get paid to kick. But here, Martin was the last line of defense. It is inexcusable he didn’t do more with the game on the line.

This lack of effort might take the cake as the worst punter play of them all.
