Former Tiger signed by Kansas City Chiefs

Congrats to the former Clemson great who got another shot at playing at the next level.

A former Clemson Tiger is getting another shot at playing at the next level.

Former Clemson running back Wayne Gallman was signed to the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad on Wednesday. Gallman, who played with the Tigers for three seasons (2014-16), most recently played with the Minnesota Vikings (two games) and Atlanta Falcons (six games) back in 2021.

The Georgia native was drafted by the New York Giants in the fourth round (No, 140 overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft and played four seasons (2017-20) in New York. Through 61 NFL game appearances (14 starts), Gallman has garnered 366 carries for 1,548 yards and nine rushing touchdowns along with 81 receptions for 519 yards and two touchdown receptions.

In his time at Clemson, Gallman became one of the Tigers most decorated running backs, recording 3,429 rushing yards on 676 carries for 34 touchdowns over the course of 42 games (37 starts). Gallman finished his career third overall in Clemson history in rushing touchdowns and fifth in rushing yards.

Lawrence lands huge honor following NFL Week 3

Congrats to the former Tiger on earning his first career accolade on the next level.

Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is finally starting to see the fruits of his labor. The Jacksonville Jaguars QB was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday following his breakout performance in the Jaguars 38-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Lawrence threw for a 71.8% completion rate, 262 yards passing and three touchdowns in the Jaguars win over the Chargers which snapped a nine-game losing streak on the road. The Georgia Native’s 115.5 passer rating was the AFC’s best in Week 3.

“Well, it just shows that he is progressing, number one,” Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday. “Number two, I think the guys around him are playing extremely well, meaning the offensive line and everybody on offense. It’s part of the progression of our offense and the steps that we need to take to be a great offense in this league. We’re not there yet, but that’s a step in the right direction and he [Trevor Lawrence] understands too that he can’t get that type of recognition without the guys around him.”

So far this season, the former three-year Clemson starter has recorded 772 total passing yards, six touchdowns and only one interception along with a 2-1 record.

LSU linebacker Damone Clark among big winners at the Senior Bowl

Damone Clark had a monster week in Mobile.

There was arguably no player that improved their stock better in the 2021 season than that of LSU Tigers linebacker Damone Clark.

An argument can be made for a player such as Kenny Pickett having the greatest rise but quarterbacks are habitually overdrafted and graded on a completely different curve.

On the national stage as far as draft prospects are concerned, Clark was relatively unknown to everyone outside of Baton Rouge. He was viewed more as a day three guy but as of right now, he could be a fringe day two linebacker for a litany of teams in the NFL. Clark was named the best linebacker at the Senior Bowl. He joined Neil Farrell Jr and Ed Ingram as the best players at their position in Mobile.

Luke Easterling of Draft Wire highlighted the big winners of the week-long process in Mobile. Among the names was Clark.

What Easterling Says…

AP Photo/Butch Dill

Utah’s Devin Lloyd and Georgia’s Nakobe Dean are the consensus top linebackers and behind them are a few candidates vying for the spot. Clark made a strong case to be LB3. Leading the pack in run stops during practices, Clark was explosive when attacking downhill. He was just as effective blitzing, especially in a one-on-one rep against one of the top pass-protecting running backs in Alabama’s Brian Robinson, as Clark shrugged him off with ease. Another thing going for Clark is that he should test out well athletically at the Combine.

Clark put together one of the best seasons in LSU Tigers football history at linebacker. He was among the nation’s leaders with 135 tackles, 15 TFLs, five sacks, and one interception. He sacked Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada on back-to-back plays to seal the comeback victory making LSU bowl eligible.

Not to mention Clark was among the finalists for the Dick Butkus Award given annually to the nation’s top linebacker. Against Ole Miss, Clark tallied a career-high 19 tackles. Going from relative unknown to a day two prospect would be a massive accomplishment for the Baton Rouge native.

Next up is the NFL combine where he will surely test well.

Latest mock draft has Roger McCreary heading to the Sunshine State

One mock draft has Roger McCreary heading to Florida.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl has come and gone and now focus shifts to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. For one former Auburn Tiger, it will be the opportunity to improve his draft stock greatly. As it currently sits, Roger McCreary is among the top cornerbacks available with LSU Tiger Derek Stingley Jr and Cincinnati Bearcat Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.

McCreary finished his Auburn career playing in 29 games according to Sports-Reference. He tallied 135 total tackles, with a career-high 49 in 2021. McCreary also added 10 TFLs, two sacks, six interceptions, one touchdown, and 30 passes defended. After four seasons on the Plains, the former three-star safety from Mobile is ready for his next challenge.

According to the latest mock from The Sporting News, they have McCreary falling into the lap of the Miami Dolphins at pick No. 29.

What The Sporting News Says…

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

The Dolphins, depending on their new coach’s schemes and overall plan, may try to get out of Xavien Howard’s contract given his consistent high demands and given a decline is around the corner ahead of his age 29 season. If McCreary slips, he would be a good choice to replace Howard. He has the size, physicality, fluidity and ability to play well in any downfield coverage scheme.

It will an interesting situation to monitor as the Miami organization came under intense scrutiny over the firing of Brian Flores. The team still has yet to make a decision on the next head coach of the Dolphins as of Sunday. If they choose to go the route of a defensive-minded coach and move on from Howard, it very well could be McCreary heading to Miami to replace him.

LSU, Florida have the most players in the Super Bowl

Plenty of Bayou Bengals making the trip to Los Angeles

As we get ready for the Super Bowl in just under two weeks, we are looking at the roster breakdown for both teams. The LSU Tigers have a total of five players in the big game, as we have previously discussed.

The big storyline is going to be Joe Burrow and the Bengals, but we also have Odell Beckham Jr finally making it to the Super Bowl. No thanks to Baker Mayfield.

Cincinnati Bengals

Albert Cesare/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK
  • Joe Burrow, Quarterback
  • Ja’Marr Chase, Wide Receiver
  • Tyler Shelvin, Defensive Tackle

Los Angles Rams

Matt Pendleton-USA TODAY Sports
  • Odell Beckham Jr, Wide Receiver
  • Andrew Whitworth, Offensive Tackle

Only one other school can match the number of LSU players in the biggest game of the year, cross-divisional rivals the Florida Gators.

Among the top teams with two or more players, the SEC has a total of 20 players from LSU, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas A&M. Ironically enough the Cincinnati Bengals are in this position due to the final drive from Joe Burrow and former Gators kicker Evan McPherson who nailed the 31-yard field goal to send them to the Super Bowl.

This should be a quite entertaining game with two quarterbacks that are very likable across the league.

Kwon Alexander to return against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football

Kwon Alexander will be back in action.

The New Orleans Saints will be getting some help against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Former LSU Tigers linebacker Kwon Alexander will be suiting up after being activated from the injured reserve list.

Alexander has been on the IR since he suffered an elbow injury following Achilles surgery in the offseason. He likely will see the field in obvious passing situations for the Saints’ defense.

Alexander is in his second season with the Saints after stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers. He was named to the NFL Pro Bowl in 2017 and the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2015. He was drafted by Tampa Bay in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Alexander has tallied 471 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, seven interceptions, with one touchdown since 2015. The former LSU Tigers linebacker finally looks healthy and ready to contribute for the Saints.

Former Clemson standouts continued to impress in week six of play in the NFL.

The top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence secured his first professional win on Sunday in London as the Jaguars bested the Dolphins 23-20 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Lawrence looked impressive as he completed 25-of-41 passes for 319 yards and a touchdown and put Jacksonville in position to kick the winning field goal as time expired. The Jaguars have the week off before traveling to Seattle on Oct. 31.

Each week The Clemson Insider highlights break-through performances by former Tigers at the next level.

Christian Wilkins, Dolphins – While Miami fell to 1-5 on the season after the loss to Jacksonville across the pond Wilkins stood out in the game. He recorded three tackles and strip sacked his former quarterback. The Dolphins hope to bounce back as they host the Falcons on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

DeAndre Hopkins, Cardinals – Arizona remained undefeated on Sunday in a 37-14 beatdown of the Browns in Cleveland on Sunday. Hopkins showed out with three catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns.

Dexter Lawrence, Giants – Lawrence continued to assert himself as one of the premier defensive tackles in the league on Sunday in a lopsided loss to the Rams. Lawrence recorded seven tackles and a half sack in the contest.

Isaiah Simmons, Cardinals – Simmons proved a dynamic force once again in the Cardinals’ win over the Browns. He finished the contest with six tackles and a tackle for loss. Arizona hosts the Texans on Sunday at 4:25 p.m.

NFLSU Week Two: Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase playing like they never left the Bayou

NFLSU’s week two action. Which former LSU Tigers stood out in the NFL.

Week two in the NFL is now in the rearview mirror. Plenty of former LSU Tigers were in action over the three days. Two of them keep playing like they never left Death Valley. Joe Burrow found Ja’Marr Chase on another long pass for a touchdown. Chase forcing two Chicago Bears defenders to collide, allowing for the easy touchdown reception.

While the game was essentially over at that point, it was still fun to see the duo connecting for the score. We should expect plenty more touchdown connections between the two for the upcoming season and beyond. Burrow had three interceptions up until that point in the game, so it wasn’t all positive for the former Heisman Trophy winner.

One of their teammates from the national championship team Justin Jefferson got to throw down another ‘griddy’ dance in the Minnesota Vikings game with the Arizona Cardinals.

A full look at each former LSU Tiger at a skill position in this week’s NFL action. Which former Bayou Bengal stood out the most?
