NFLSU: 3 former Tigers players gearing up for Super Bowl 58

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Neil Farrell and Ty Davis-Price are all seeking Super Bowl rings on Sunday.

It’s almost time for Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, and a trio of former LSU players are looking for world championship rings. One of them is seeking his second.

Running backs [autotag]Clyde Edwards-Helaire[/autotag] and [autotag]Ty Davis-Price[/autotag] and defensive tackle [autotag]Neil Farrell[/autotag] were all teammates on the Tigers’ 2019 national championship squads, and they’re could add another piece of hardware to the collection on Sunday night.

Edwards-Helaire and Farrell play for the Chiefs. The former won a Super Bowl with the team last season and has spent his first four seasons in Kansas City. He’s mostly been a rotational player this season, seeing 70 carries in three starts.

A fourth-round pick in 2022, Farrell spent his rookie season with the Raiders but was traded to Kansas City in August. He appeared in three games this season and made one postseason appearance, recording one tackle.

Davis-Price was a third-round pick for the 49ers in 2022. He was waived on Dec. 5 but signed to the team’s practice squad two days later, where he remains.

All time, 47 LSU Tigers have combined to win 57 Super Bowl rings, and that number is guaranteed to expand after this weekend.

NFLSU: 11 Tigers on NFL rosters ahead of divisional playoffs

The Tigers are well-represented in the postseason this weekend.

We’re gearing up for what should be an exciting weekend of playoff football in the NFL.

It’s the divisional round, and with the Tigers boasting a high number of players in the professional ranks, the program is well-represented this weekend. All in all, 11 former LSU players appear on NFL postseason rosters heading into the weekend.

While two teams — Green Bay and Detroit — don’t have any former Tigers, every matchup this weekend will feature at least one LSU player, with several teams having more than one.

Here’s a rundown of all 11 of the former Tigers who will take the field for the divisional playoffs this weekend.

Bills, former LSU DB Tre’Davious White carted off with non-contact Achilles injury

Tre’Davious White returned last season after missing a year with a torn ACL.

It was a scary situation for the Buffalo Bills and former LSU cornerback [autotag]Tre’Davious White[/autotag] on Sunday.

During the third quarter of Buffalo’s 48-20 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, White was carted off the field with a non-contact injury to his right Achilles suffered while defending a route.

White was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The two-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler suffered a torn ACL during the 2021 season that cost him a year of action. He returned midway through the 2022 season, appearing in the final six regular-season games and both playoff matchups for the Bills.

A First-Team All-Pro in 2019, White tied for the NFL lead in interceptions that season. A first-round pick in 2017, he was a First Team All-SEC selection and consensus All-American during his final season with the Tigers.

Report: Joe Burrow could end up on injured reserve after reaggravating calf injury

Joe Burrow could miss more than this weekend’s game after re-tweaking his calf injury.

Former LSU star quarterback [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] suffered a scary moment during offseason camp when he had to be carted off the field after a non-contact calf injury.

After missing the preseason, Burrow made his return in time for Week 1 but struggled in each of the Cincinnati Bengals‘ first two games, both losses. In Week 2, Burrow exited the game after tweaking the same calf.

He’s officially listed as questionable ahead of Cincinnati’s Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams, a rematch of the Super Bowl from two seasons ago.

However, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Burrow may be unavailable for the foreseeable future as tweaking the injury could potentially land him on the short-term injured reserve.

[autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag], Burrow’s Bengals and former LSU teammate, said earlier this week that he didn’t want Burrow to return until he was 100%, adding that he would guess Burrow won’t play against the Rams.

Carolina Panthers add former LSU linebacker Deion Jones to active roster after Shaq Thompson’s injury

Deion Jones was released by the Panthers in August but rejoined the team’s practice squad earlier this month.

Former LSU linebacker Deion Jones has been elevated from the Carolina Panthers practice squad to the 53-man roster following an injury to starter Shaq Thompson.

Thompson suffered a broken leg in the Panthers’ Monday Night Football game against the Saints in Week 2, which will require surgery and likely cause him to miss the remainder of the season.

A former second-round pick, the 2017 Pro Bowler played for the Atlanta Falcons from 2016-22. Jones was traded to the Cleveland Browns midway through last season after he spent the beginning of the year on the Falcons’ injured reserve.

Jones signed with Carolina in July but was cut on Aug. 29 during the preseason. He re-signed to the team’s practice squad on Sept. 11, and now he’ll have a chance to contribute on Sundays.

Former LSU tight end Foster Moreau agrees to deal with Saints, expected to play in 2023 after cancer diagnosis

Moreau will return to Louisiana after signing a three-year deal with New Orleans.

Foster Moreau’s football life paused this year after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Following positive news regarding his health, Moreau has found a home in free agency. The former LSU tight end is headed back to Louisiana on a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

A visit with the Saints in March led to Moreau’s original diagnosis. New Orleans’ interest was no secret.

According to Nick Underhill, Moreau is not expected to have any limitations.

Moreau appeared in 30 games for LSU from 2015-18. He was a fourth-round pick in 2019 and spent the first four years of his career with the Raiders, with whom he was a steady contributor.

At LSU, he was well-respected and wore the coveted No. 18, given each year to a player who best represents the program.

Moreau’s recovery is great news after he originally didn’t know if he’d play this year. His return home only makes this story better.

LSU among the best talent producers in college football

LSU has been a bed of talent for the NFL in recent years.

Several former LSU players have gone onto stardom in the NFL.

That level of production has put LSU among the top in NFL draft producers in recent years.

Forty-one Tigers have been drafted in the last five years. Only Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State have more. With the draft on Thursday, LSU has the chance to add to this list.

Last year, [autotag]Derek Stingley Jr.[/autotag] kicked off draft night for the Tigers when the Houston Texans took him third overall.

It’s unlikely LSU has a first-rounder this year. If that’s the case, it would be the first time since 2018 an LSU name wasn’t called on the first night.

The first LSU player off the board this year could be [autotag]BJ Ojulari[/autotag], an edge expected to go in the second round. After that, it’s anyone’s guess.

Where [autotag]Kayshon Boutte[/autotag] goes, or if he’s even drafted, is very much still up in the air. Other LSU prospects that could hear their name called this weekend include [autotag]Jaquelin Roy[/autotag], [autotag]Mekhi Garner[/autotag] and [autotag]Jarrick Bernard-Converse[/autotag].

Former LSU linebacker Devin White requests trade from Tampa Bay

White was a Second-Team All-Pro in 2020 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2021.

A former Tigers star could be on the move this offseason.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former LSU linebacker [autotag]Devin White[/autotag] has requested a trade, according to a report from ESPN’s Jenna Laine. The decision apparently stems from “frustrations” with his current situation that sources indicated to Adam Schefter has to do with his stagnating contract negotiations.

The fifth overall pick back in 2019, White was named to the All-Rookie team in his first season. He was named a Second-Team All-Pro in 2020, and he was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021.

White totaled 140 tackles in 2022, the lowest since his rookie year, but he also notched 5.5 sacks and a career-high five passes defended.

White hasn’t had the First-Team All-Pro trajectory it looked like he’d be on after leading the Bucs to a Super Bowl in Year 2, but he’s still just 25 and one of the league’s better pass-rushing and run-defending inside linebackers despite struggling in coverage.

If Tampa Bay ultimately grants him his wish, there will certainly be a number of suitors.

Former LSU star Arden Key lands multi-year deal with Titans after solid season in Jacksonville

Key is getting paid after a solid season with the Jaguars.

Former Tigers edge rusher [autotag]Arden Key[/autotag] heading to Tennessee.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Key is joining the Titans on a three-year deal worth $13 million dollars. He spent the 2022 season as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A third-round pick in 2018 for the Raiders, he struggled in the first few years of his career but had a breakout season with the 49ers in 2021, totaling a career-high 6.5 sacks. He followed that up with 4.5 sacks this season as a rotational lineman and arguably the team’s best edge defender outside of Josh Allen.

That was enough to get a payday.

A three-year standout while at LSU, Key started nine games as a true freshman and earned First-Team All-SEC honors as a sophomore and junior in 2016 and 2017. He struggled with injuries in his final season, which hurt his draft stock, but it seems he’s now caught on in the league after all.

NEW: Justin Jefferson named NFL Offensive Player of the Year

Jefferson broke Randy Moss’ Vikings single-season receiving yardage record in 2022.

Former LSU star receiver Justin Jefferson continues to take the NFL by storm. The Minnesota Vikings standout is making a strong argument as the best pass-catcher in the league, and he was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year during the annual NFL Honors on Thursday night.

After a record-setting rookie season and nearly breaking Randy Moss’ Vikings single-season receiving record in Year 2, he obliterated the record in 2022, finishing with 1,809 yards — nearly 200 more than Moss’ 1,632 — to go with eight touchdowns on 128 catches (the seventh-most in NFL history).

Jefferson’s 35 first-place votes beat out Patrick Mahomes, the runner-up and NFL MVP, as well as Jalen Hurts, Tyreek Hill and Josh Allen.

After winning a national title in college as part of one of the greatest college football teams of all time, Jefferson has quickly carried that success over to the NFL. Now, he’s cemented himself as the best offensive player in the league in 2022.
