Giants hosted WR Michael Jefferson on visit, worked out 3 others

The New York Giants met with rookie wide receiver Michael Jefferson on Monday and hosted three others for workouts.

The New York Giants were quite busy on Monday, hosting free agent wide receiver Michael Jefferson for a visit while working out three others.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Jefferson was projected to be a middle-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft but went unselected after suffering severe injuries in a car accident.

On April 11, Jefferson was involved in a fatal multi-car wreck in Mobile, Alabama, and spent a week in the hospital after “multiple surgeries.” He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Since recovering, Jefferson has also visited with the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks but has not yet been able to work out.

The 23-year-old tested well at the NFL Combine, clocking in at 4.56 in the 40-yard dash.

In addition to meeting with Jefferson, the Giants also worked out offensive lineman Jordan Roos, and cornerbacks Thomas Graham and Chris Jackson.

Roos is a seven-year NFL veteran with 23 games of experience at guard. He was last with the Tennessee Titans but released on September 14.

Graham is a former sixth-round pick of the Chicago Bears (2021) and Jackson is a former seventh-round pick of the Titans (2020).

Browns: Kevin Stefanski gives injury updates after Pro Hall of Fame Game victory

The Browns did not leave the Pro Hall of Fame Game unscathed.

The Cleveland Browns opened up the preseason with a 21-16 victory over the New York Jets in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. They shined in their first game in the NFL as Dorian Thompson-Robinson stole the show in Canton. They did not leave unscathed, however, as Thomas Graham Jr. and Daylen Baldwin both departed the exhibition match.

During the game, a few players left with injuries and on Friday Kevin Stefanski spoke with the media to update media and fans. Two players that are fighting for roster spots will now miss significant time according to the Browns head coach. Let’s take a look below at the three injury updates that Stefanski gave during his Friday media availability after Thursday’s game.

Browns place exclusive rights tender on two depth pieces

Two players will return in 2023.

With a little over a week to go before free agency officially begins the Cleveland Browns have tendered two exclusive rights free agents. Both cornerback Thomas Graham and defensive tackle Ben Stille will be back in camp with the team this summer.

Thomas Graham played in a total of 37 snaps defensively with five tackles and a PFF coverage grade of 71.3. Ben Stille played a total of 84 snaps registering four quarterback pressures and receiving an overall grade of 62 from PFF.

Both players will have a shot at making the roster but likely are just camp bodies that showed some potential last year. We will see if they ultimately make the team or not.

Browns announce David Njoku, Tommy Togiai, 4 other inactives vs. Texans

The Cleveland Browns have announced their six inactives vs. the Texans

The Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans are getting set for battle as quarterback Deshaun Watson makes his debut for the brown and orange against his former team. Per usual, both teams have announced their inactives for today’s matchup. Among them is tight end David Njoku, who was ruled out with a knee injury this week, and defensive tackle Tommy Togiai.

This means Harrison Bryant must step up, and rookie defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey will look to build off of a solid outing last week where he played 24 snaps against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Who are the other inactives who will not suit up for the Browns today? We take a look at them here.

Browns bring CB Thomas Graham Jr. back, sign him to practice squad

Thomas Graham Jr. is coming back to the Browns as he has signed to their practice squad

The Cleveland Browns will not even let you finish your coffee before coming down with news. This time, the Browns have signed cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. to their practice squad after cutting him from their active roster earlier this week.

Making room for the likes of cornerback Greedy Williams and linebacker Deion Jones to potentially return to the 53-man roster from the Injured Reserve, cuts had to be made somewhere. Graham found himself on the end of a business move, but gets the opportunity to stay with the team and prove his worth to the Browns.

Playing a good deal of special teams with the Browns, Graham could always see himself as a gameday elevation to play on special teams.

Browns Morning Roundup: Greedy Williams is close, DT help, and more

The Browns have been active early this week, so let’s get you caught up with this Browns Morning Roundup

Welcome back Cleveland Browns fans!

As defensive upgrades continue to be necessary, the Browns have made a handful of moves early in the week. We have covered the trade for linebacker Deion Jones enough at this point, but that was not the end of general manager Andrew Berry’s work day.

As we turn the page from the Los Angeles Chargers to the New England Patriots, stay up to date with all of the news you might have missed from the day before. Let’s dive right into this morning’s Browns Morning Roundup as the coffee brews and as you get settled into your workspace.

Browns release CB Thomas Graham, points towards Greedy Williams activation

As the Browns release Thomas Graham, there is reason to believe Greedy Williams could be on his way back to the active roster

As the Cleveland Browns continue to get healthier, they have released a bottom-of-the-roster player in cornerback Thomas Graham according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson. There is reason to believe that fellow cornerback Greedy Williams may be activated sooner rather than later as a result.

Williams is one of two players who could return from Injured Reserve, with the other being newly acquired linebacker Deion Jones. However, given that Jones has not yet been designated for return as he has just arrived in Cleveland, signs point to Williams entering the fold.

The Browns currently sit at 52 on their active roster, so expect a move to come sooner rather than later.

Browns waive CB Herb Miller day after recovering Felton’s fumble

Miller hits the waiver wire after saving a possession on Sunday. No corresponding move was made official Monday so a roster spot is currently open:

The job for GM Andrew Berry doesn’t stop just because the Cleveland Browns are 1-0 for the first time in what seems forever. Berry continues to work the roster in ways he believes makes the team best.

Last week, CB Greedy Williams was placed on injured reserve and will miss at least four games. The Browns had CB Jimmy Moreland in for a visit but a signing doesn’t seem on the radar.

Instead, Berry officially waived CB Herb Miller on Monday. Miller had an important fumble recovery when Demetric Felton muffed a punt at the start of the second quarter.

Last week, Miller was signed to the 53-man roster to replace Williams.

Miller didn’t see any snaps on defense but was in for 22 special teams plays (69%).

No corresponding move was made but that could come as early as Tuesday.

There is a report floating around that the team has signed CB Thomas Graham off of waivers from the Chicago Bears.

Graham was considered a surprise cut after battling hamstring issues during training camp. Graham had a breakout game in Week 14 of his rookie season last year with seven tackles and three pass breakups.

There have been no other reports of Graham signing in Cleveland.

We will update you as soon as we have more information on the corresponding move to Miller’s release.

What to watch for at Bears’ mandatory minicamp this week

The Bears wrap their offseason program with mandatory minicamp this week. Here are some storylines to keep an eye on:

The Chicago Bears wrapped up the voluntary portion of their offseason program following organized team activities last week. Now, the attention shifts to mandatory minicamp, which runs June 14-16.

There were a number of intriguing storylines unfolding during OTAs, including a number of which will continue into minicamp.

The Bears have three more practices before breaking for the summer ahead of training camp in late July.

Here’s what you should be keeping an eye out for at minicamp this week:

Here’s where PFF ranked the Bears’ 2021 rookie class

The Bears 2021 draft class certainly looks promising.

Last year, former Bears general manager Ryan Pace was praised for what many had pegged as the NFL’s best rookie class immediately following the NFL draft.

But, as we all know, you can never grade a rookie draft class before they’ve played a down of football at the NFL level. Only time will tell.

Pro Football Focus ranked all of the rookie classes following the 2021 season, and the Bears landed at No. 11. A big part of that was quarterback Justin Fields, who still flashed his potential despite a less-than-ideal rookie year.

But there were some late-round picks that also impressed, including sixth-round running back Khalil Herbert and cornerback Thomas Graham Jr.

Chicago went all-in by trading up for quarterback Justin Fields in the draft. While the former Ohio State Buckeye didn’t have a banner season, it was slightly above expectation. Running back Khalil Herbert and cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. also helped the Bears’ ranking, as both Day 3 picks were thrust into the starting lineup for a game or two and performed better than anyone could expect a sixth-round rookie to perform.

As Bears fans are aware, things don’t always go according to plan, which was certainly the case for the 2021 rookie class. Fields’ rookie season was rough, yet encouraging. Offensive tackle Teven Jenkins missed most of the season following back surgery. And Graham and wide receiver Dazz Newsome didn’t make the 53-man roster to start the season.

Still, the Bears 2021 draft class proved to be an encouraging group. We’ll see what the next couple of years has in store before coming to a consensus on this group.
