One offensive guard for the Eagles in every round of the 2022 NFL Draft

Looking at one offensive guard prospect for the Philadelphia Eagles in every round of the 2022 NFL Draft

The Eagles have the NFL’s top offensive line after leading the entire league in rushing, and a major key to that yearly dominance can be found in Howie Roseman stockpiling depth and talent.

Philadelphia has future Hall of Famers on the roster with right tackle Lane Johnson and center Jason Kelce, along with Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson.

Jack Driscoll is a talented find from the 2020 class, Andre Dillard is still a talented first-round backup, and Isaac Seumalo will be returning to the roster after missing the bulk of the 2021 campaign with an injury.

The Eagles also have solid reserves in Sua Opeta, Nate Herbig, Le’Raven Clark, and Brett Toth, as well.

The expectation is that Philadelphia will address the defense and wide receiver position early on, but if the Eagles continue their motto of building from the inside, there are several talented guards available in all seven rounds.

Cleveland Browns seven round mock draft simulation reviewed 1.0

Our guy @joshkeatley16 did two simulations, allowing the computer to pick for the Browns, and reviewed the selections. Here is the first:

Welcome to NFL Draft season fellow Cleveland Browns fans and we have focused a lot on various first round mock drafts and our reactions to those and that makes sense considering that the first round is the most important and a bit of a make it or break it for the entire draft class, but if you are like me, you love digging deeper and talking about some underrated prospects from the C-USA or FCS subdivision.

Today I am reviewing a seven round mock draft that I have simulated over at our good friends The Draft Network’s Mock Draft Machine. I did not make any selections and just let the computer do its thing and I wanted to highlight who was chosen and my reaction or alternate choice below:

2022 NFL draft: Giants select a new QB in full 7-round mock

In the latest 7-round mock draft from Giants Wire, Big Blue addresses their OL problem and land a new QB to compete with Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants still do not have a general manager or head coach (as of this writing), but mock draft season waits for no one.

In our second mock of the year, which was conducted using the current draft order (post-wild card games), we employed the mock draft simulator from The Draft Network.

The settings were default: TDN’s predictive board, seven rounds and fast speed. We chose only for the Giants during a single run (no practice runs). There were no trades used in this simulation.

Here are the results:

Giants select QB Matt Corral in latest PFN mock draft

In the latest Pro Football Network mock draft (three rounds), the New York Giants select QB Matt Corral to replace QB Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants desperately need help along the offensive line. They need a center, two guards and one right tackle. If they’re unable to address and fix those issues this offseason, they’ve failed.

For that reason, the Giants must use at least some of their early draft resources to shore up the offensive line.

But Cam Mellor of Pro Football Network doesn’t see it that way. In fact, he has the Giants completely avoiding the O-Line with each of their two first-round picks.

At No. 5 overall, Mellor has Big Blue selecting Purdue edge rusher George Karlaftis.

It’s time for the other New York team to pick. With back-to-back selections, the G-Men grab George Karlaftis from Purdue.

A sensational pass rusher when he’s got time to get moving, Karlaftis is scratching the surface of his raw talent. The Giants grab the third edge defender in five picks before making a splash pick next.

Karlaftis makes sense and is a name we’ve seen mocked to the Giants with frequency. But this pick only works if New York follows it up with an offensive lineman, which they do not as Mellor then has New York nabbing Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral at No. 6 overall.

It is very likely that the Giants secure the services of a quarterback in the 2022 offseason. If they don’t grab Russell Wilson, they’ll absolutely look to secure their top quarterback with one of their first-round picks. The selection here is Matt Corral as the Ole Miss quarterback presents all the upside with few questions about his game.

There is “absolutely” no guarantee the Giants will use a first-round pick on a quarterback. In fact, it seems extremely unlikely that they will with Joe Judge having already committed to Daniel Jones in 2022.

Beyond just that however, would the Giants really be better off with Corral under center and behind this line than Jones? If that problem isn’t solved — and it likely won’t be through free agency — then the team is just spinning its wheels.

In Round 2, Mellor has the Giants passing on available offensive linemen and trading down with the Cleveland Browns (New York gets picks Nos. 46 and 77 and a 2023 fifth-round pick in exchange for No. 37).

With the 46th overall pick, the Giants select…not an offensive lineman.

46) New York Giants (from Cleveland)
Henry To’o To’o, LB, Alabama

How about No. 70, their first third-round pick? Still no.

70) New York Giants
Jalen Wydermyer, TE, Texas A&M

It’s not until pick No. 77 overall (Round 3) that Mellor finally — finally — has the Giants selecting an offensive lineman. And it’s not even a right tackle prospect.

77) New York Giants (from Cleveland)
Thayer Munford, G, Ohio State

Two picks later, the Giants take another 50-50 prospect. And again, it’s on the interior.

79) New York Giants
Jarrett Patterson, C, Notre Dame

This would be an atrocious and terrible draft for the Giants. Outside of Karlaftis in Round 1 and the potential value of To’oTo’o in Round 2, this mock solves almost none of the Giants’ problems and would leave whatever quarterback is under center in 2022 lacking.

How would you feel about this draft, Giants fans? Let us know in the comments below.

Chris Olave and Thayer Munford named first-team AFCA All-Americans

Congrats to these two for getting a tree in Buckeye Grove as first-team All-Americans. #GoBucks

Two more Ohio State players have been named first-team All-Americans, and it comes from the American Football Coaches Association, one of the five publications recognized for consensus All-American honors. Receiver Chris Olave and offensive tackle Thayer Munford are the latest to be honored.

Any OSU player that gets their name on any of those five lists (AP, Walter Camp, FWAA, AFCA, or Sporting News) receives a tree planted in their honor in Buckeye Grove. It is the first time either have been named as a first-teamer by any of the five consensus publications, and it sure would have felt a little weird to not have these two appearing in Buckeye Grove.

Chris Olave forged his own path at Ohio State after signing with the Buckeyes as only a 3-star prospect in the 2018 class. He splashed on the scene that year as a freshman in the Michigan game and took off from there. He is now the OSU career leader in touchdown receptions with 35, and was a part of a three-headed attack in the receiver room in 2021. The two-time first-team all-Big Ten Conference selection had personal bests in receptions (65), yards (936), and touchdowns (13) in 2021.

Munford came back for a fifth year this season after taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility afforded to college athletes because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He helped anchor an offensive line that led the country in yards per game (551.4) and scoring offense (45.5 ppg). He started a whopping 44 games in his career and played in 56 over his entire time in the scarlet and gray.

Congrats to both and we look forward some landscaping being done in their honor soon.

2022 NFL draft: Bears target offense in new 3-round mock draft

In a new mock draft, the Bears target some help for Justin Fields in the form of protection on the offensive line and a new receiver.

While the Chicago Bears remain in the thick of the NFC wild-card race, at least for now, it’s never too early to start looking ahead to the 2022 NFL draft.

Chicago doesn’t have a first-round pick after trading it to the New York Giants to move up to select quarterback Justin Fields with the No. 11 pick last year. But there are still opportunities for the Bears to address some needs in the middle rounds, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

In Draft Wire’s latest mock draft, Luke Easterling has the Bears giving Fields some help in the form of protection on the offensive line and another weapon in the passing game.

Here’s a look at the two prospects:

Thayer Munford named Lombardi Award semifinalist

Thayer Munford one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award. #GoBucks

Ohio State left guard Thayer Munford has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award, an honor that goes to college football’s top offensive or defensive lineman annually.

Munford has a ton of experience and is a team captain for 2021. He has a total of 51 games in the scarlet and gray under his belt, 38 of those as a starter. He took advantage of the extra year of eligibility as a “super senior” afforded college athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic and graduated in August.

On the field, Munford has helped anchor an offensive line that has given up only eight sacks on the year and has helped an OSU offense that ranks as No. 1 in total offense (563.2 yards/game), No. 3 in scoring (48.5 points/game), and No. 3 in rushing offense in yards per attempt (6.2).

Out of Cincinnati, Munford was a first-team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and the media in 2020, and was the second-ever recipient of the “Block-0” jersey given in recognition of Bill Willis.

The list will be paired down to four finalists by the Rotary Club of Houston on Nov. 9, and the winner at an awards dinner on Dec. 8.

Thayer Munford recognized with ‘Block O’ jersey

Thayer Munford becomes the second ever player to be awarded the “Block 0” jersey. Do you like this new tradition?

Ohio State offensive lineman Thayer Munford is the latest recipient of the “Block 0” jersey. If you’re not familiar with what that means, we don’t blame you. Ohio State started the new tradition just last season when college football players were officially allowed to wear the number zero.

The Buckeyes put their own spin on it and made it into a “Block 0” with Jonathon Cooper forever being the answer to the trivia question of who the first OSU player was to wear it. Ohio State awards the “Block 0” jersey, which pays homage to Buckeye great Bill Willis, to a player who best emulates “toughness, accountability, and high character.”

Munford is one of six captains of the team this year, has been a mainstay on the offensive line as a three-year starter, and is the most experienced offensive lineman in the Big Ten.

There is one catch though: If you are looking for Munford to sport the “Block 0” jersey like what we saw with Cooper last season, you may be disappointed. An offensive lineman has to wear a number between 50-79, so Munford will instead sport a patch commerating his selection.

Four Ohio State players Associated Press Preseason All-Americans

Four OSU players made the AP Preseason All-American Teams. Can you name them?

We are just a week and a half away from the start of the Ohio State football season, but the preseason lists aren’t quite done. On Monday, the Associated Press released its Preseason All-American Team and the Buckeyes had four players named.

That’s about how many players we have seen among the other preseason lists and mentions, so it’s really no surprise. You could make an argument for another player or two, but hey, it’s the preseason so they’ll have to prove it on the field in real, live American football anyhow.

So who are the four? Well, we’re glad you asked because we’re here to tell you.
