Panthers place Amaré Barno on injured reserve

The 2023 season is over for Panthers OLB Amaré Barno.

The 2023 season wasn’t going away without claiming yet another Carolina Panthers defender.

As announced by the team on Wednesday afternoon, outside linebacker Amaré Barno has been placed on injured reserve. With just two games remaining, the move officially ends the 24-year-old’s second pro campaign.

Barno injured his knee in this past Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. He was carted off the field after recording just two snaps on special teams.

A sixth-round pick in 2022, Barno has appeared in 24 games for the Panthers over the last two seasons. He played in each of the team’s 15 games in 2023,  including a start in the Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears.

The majority of Barno’s snaps this season came on special teams, where he logged 232 looks. In his 189 defensive snaps, he—per Pro Football Focus—recorded eight total pressures and seven stops.

Barno is now one of six Panthers defenders currently on injured reserve.

Biggest storylines for Panthers’ preseason finale vs. Lions

Will Panthers QB Bryce Young have more time to shine in Friday’s preseason finale?

Friday’s final dress rehearsal could mean the beginning of the show for some and curtains for others. And for general manager Scott Fitterer, head coach Frank Reich the Carolina Panthers, it’ll be the last chance to decide who of those players stay on their program heading into the fall.

Here are the top storylines for the all-important preseason finale:

Top takeaways from Panthers’ snap counts in preseason loss to Giants

Friday night’s battle at right guard was highlighted by a pair of Panthers rookies.

Preseason games don’t count, but the snaps do. Just ask Bryce Young.

So, let’s see what we can take away from the Carolina Panthers’ snap totals from their loss to the New York Giants.

Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers’ preseason loss to Giants

PFF hit Bryce Young with one of the Panthers’ lowest offensive grades from Friday night’s preseason loss to the Giants.

The Carolina Panthers may have dropped their second straight preseason contest to a New York squad on Friday night, but at least they kept the scorekeepers busy this time around. So, can we say the same about the graders over at Pro Football Focus?

Here are this week’s best and worst PFF marks for the Panthers:

Biggest storylines for Panthers’ Week 2 preseason game vs. Giants

Will Panthers HC Frank Reich and his offensive line help Bryce Young steer a tighter ship in their second outing of the preseason?

Unsurprisingly, this week’s focus for the Carolina Panthers will be quite similar to that of last week’s. But hopefully, there’s a little more meat on the bone to take away from this preseason contest.

Here are the top storylines heading into Friday’s exhibition with the New York Giants.

Stock up, stock down from Panthers’ preseason loss to Jets

A few Panthers linebackers improved their stock in the team’s preseason opener against the Jets.

This may be difficult to believe, but a few Carolina Panthers players improved their cases in the team’s 27-0 preseason loss to the New York Jets. Oh, and there were also definitely a few who didn’t.

Here’s our stock report from Saturday’s action:

‘Madden NFL 24’ ratings for Panthers edge rushers revealed

Brian Burns’ “Madden NFL 24” rating seems, well, a tad low . . .

On Tuesday, EA Sports rolled out the “Madden NFL 24” ratings for the league’s edge rushers. And for a two-time Pro Bowl starter, Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Brian Burns seemed a bit underrated.

Check out the marks for Burns and the rest of the group here:

Panthers’ Amaré Barno holds on to 40-yard dash record for DL

Georgia’s Nolan Smith may have torched up the combine on Thursday, but Panthers DE Amaré Barno still holds the 40-yard dash record for defensive linemen.

University of Georgia standout Nolan Smith ruled over the first day of on-field drills at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. But his run at the throne came up a little short.

On Thursday, the 6-foot-2, 238-pound pass rusher clocked, at least at first, a blazing 4.44-second 40-yard dash. Then, upon further review, the official time bumped him up (or down, really) to a ridiculous 4.39 seconds.

That performance put Smith second all-time amongst defensive linemen in the 40-yard dash. So, still at No. 1, remains Carolina Panthers defensive end Amaré Barno—who is a relatively distant three one-hundredths of a second away.

Barno ran into the history books at last year’s combine. The Virginia Tech product had the official stopwatch read a 4.36, which would later help him get scooped up by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft.

As for the runner-up, expect Smith to go a bit higher than that. The projected first-rounder also recorded eye-opening numbers in the vertical jump (41.5 inches) and the broad jump (10 feet, eight inches).

Top takeaways from Panthers’ Week 11 snap counts

In his first game back from a six-week absence, Panthers S Jeremy Chinn played in each of his defense’s 69 snaps.

Since the Carolina Panthers showed out on defense against the Baltimore Ravens, let’s put a snap-count spotlight on their Week 11 performance.

So, in an all-defense edition, here are the top takeaways from Sunday’s playing time.

6 Panthers the Eagles should have interest in acquiring after Carolina fires Matt Rhule

With the Carolina Panthers firing head coach Matt Rhule and DC Phil Snow, we’ve listed six players the Philadelphia Eagles should be interested in acquiring via trade

Matt Rhule has been fired as the coach of the Carolina Panthers less than 24 hours after a 37-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and less than three years into a seven-year, $62 million contract he signed to leave Baylor for the NFL.

Rhule was fired with a record of 11-27, including this year’s 1-4 start. Under Rhule, the Panthers were 1-27 when allowing 17 or more points, including 25 losses in a row.

With Carolina making a change at head coach and defensive coordinator, the franchise could look to be sellers as they work to accumulate draft assets.

Here are six players the playoff-bound Eagles could look to trade for.
