Studs and duds from Texas’ Alamo Bowl win over Colorado

Texas’ season ended on a high note with a win over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. Here are the studs and duds from the bowl win:

Texas’ rather disappointing season ended with a positive on Tuesday night against Colorado. As he always seems to do, Tom Herman had his team prepared and ready to go for a bowl game. The Longhorns blew Colorado out of the water, especially in the second half.

For what could have been the final time, Sam Ehlinger was the starting quarterback at the University of Texas. Due to a shoulder injury suffered in the first half, the quarterback did not get to be sent off the way he deserved. Luckily, Casey Thompson stepped in and put on a show in just over a full quarter.

Defensively, it was another encouraging performance from Chris Ash’s group, especially with key starters Joseph Ossai, Ta’Quon Graham, and Caden Sterns all out. Young players such as Alfred Collins, Jerrin Thompson, and Jett Bush all got opportunities to make statements.

While it was not a statement win of any matters, Texas looked good in its finale against Colorado. However, Herman and company still have a couple of matters to work on before beginning the 2021 season.

Texas vs Colorado: Four things to know about the 2020 Alamo Bowl

The old Big 12 matchup’s 11-year hiatus will come to an end on Tuesday. Here are four things to know about the Alamo Bowl between UT and CU:

Texas will be heading to the Alamo Bowl for the second consecutive season to face off against Colorado. Coming off a 6-3 season, a lot more was expected from Tom Herman. Now, they will be settling for another non-New Year’s Six bowl game with hopes of an impressive win.

Colorado, on the other hand, will be in the midst of one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Buffaloes have only competed in five games due to COVID-19 scheduling within the Pac-12. Their 4-1 record was good enough to finish second in the Pac-12 South.

Now, the two schools will be playing for the first time since 2009. The old Big 12 matchup’s 11-year hiatus will come to an end on Tuesday. Here are four things to know about the 2020 Alamo Bowl between Texas and Colorado:

Texas Longhorns Football: Recent series history vs Colorado

Texas and Colorado will be playing for the first time since 2009. Here is the recent series history between old Big 12 conference opponents:

Texas will be facing off against an old Big 12 opponent in Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl. The two teams are coming off completely different perspectives on their seasons.

For the Longhorns, it was a disappointing year, despite going 6-3 and finishing third in the Big 12. Tom Herman was supposed to finally breakthrough for a conference championship with young talent and senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Instead, his name is surrounded by controversy going into the 2021 season.

The opposite happened for the Buffaloes, going 4-1 under first-year head coach Karl Dorrell. In an offseason where Mel Tucker left unexpectedly for Michigan State, Colorado had to scramble to find a new head coach. Dorrell’s squad was projected to finish last in the Pac-12 South.

Now, the two schools will be playing for the first time since 2009. Here is the recent series history between Texas and Colorado:
