Texas will be without several key starters, therefore this game could go either direction. Senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger will be the only captain playing in the Alamo Bowl. Outside of offensive lineman Derek Kerstetter who suffered a lower leg injury against Kansas State, every other captain chose to opt out the remainder of the season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

On the offensive side, Ehlinger will be without his star left tackle in Samuel Cosmi. Due to the losses of Cosmi and Kerstetter, the Longhorns will be starting two freshman on the offensive line. Ehlinger will also be without one of his primary receivers in Brennan Eagles.

The defensive side has suffered more. Texas will be without safeties Caden Sterns and Chris Brown, defensive lineman Ta’Quon Graham, and star pass rusher Joseph Ossai. Defensive back Jalen Green is expected to pull double duty at both cornerback and safety against Colorado.

While the latest odds clearly show Texas as the favorites, they haven’t been able to showcase consistency this season. When you add on the significant amount of starters that won’t be playing, it feels as if Colorado could easily come out on top.
