Postgame Report: Texas stomps Texas Tech 49-24

After walloping the Texas Tech Red Raiders 49-24, the Texas Longhorns are closing out the season on a high note

After walloping the Texas Tech Red Raiders 49-24, the Texas Longhorns are closing out a disappointing season on a high note. In the first quarter, Texas had a tough time getting anything going and went down 14-0 early. After that, the defense stepped up and the offense got into a groove, taking shots down the field and spreading out the Red Raiders’ defense. The win today leaves the Longhorns with a 7-5 record and looking towards a mid or low-tier bowl game.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger had another huge game, throwing for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns with 19/27 passing. As usual, Ehlinger was effective on the ground as well, rushing 10 times for 83 yards and a touchdown. Ehlinger officially surpassed 10,000 career yards before he got pulled for Casey Thompson late as the game was already out of reach.

Senior wide receiver Devin Duvernay had a monster performance in his last game at DKR, catching 6 passes for 199 yards and 1 touchdown. Duvernay’s score came on a beautiful 75-yard pass from Ehlinger, which Duvernay caught in stride and took to the house:

QB-turned-RB Roschon Johnson added 105 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, putting in his best performance as a Texas Longhorn. On the defensive side of the ball, Marqez Bimage was the main standout with a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and sack.

The Longhorns await Selection Day to find out where they will travel for a bowl game. The Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Florida is a popular choice among analysts, and the Longhorns could easily be headed to Florida.

Being a referee is a hard and thankless job. On any given play there are so many moving parts that it is easy to get lost in the shuffle and miss a call or two. Despite what your average fan would have you believe, spotting penalties in real-time when you’re on the field is extremely difficult. Luckily, some calls are easy. For instance, referee Cooper Castleberry was able to confirm that the previous play was, in fact, a pass:

Longhorns QB Sam Ehlinger officially surpasses 10,000 career all-purpose yards

Texas Longhorn QB Sam Ehlinger officially surpassed 10,000 career all-purpose yards in today’s game against Texas Tech.

It has been a successful career for Sam Ehlinger so far. In the final game of his third season, Ehlinger has officially surpassed 10,000 career all-purpose yards. Ehlinger’s 10k trails only Longhorn Legend Colt McCoy, who posted 14,824 yards over the course of his esteemed career. Ehlinger still has time to make up ground, as he should return to Texas for his senior year and put up more yardage, perhaps enough to surpass McCoy.
