2023 NFL draft: Seahawks named best fit for Tennessee WR Jalin Hyatt

According to Matt Bowen at ESPN, Seattle is the best fit for Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt.

The Seattle Seahawks have a strong foundation, but they still need a real No. 3 wide receiver to complete the look for their passing game. Odds are they will be able to find a capable one in the 2023 NFL draft.

So, who should they target? According to Matt Bowen at ESPN, Seattle is the best fit for Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt.

“Hyatt would add a true vertical element from both slot and boundary alignments in Seattle’s 11 personnel sets to mesh with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett… With Hyatt bringing even more speed and big-play ability to the pass game for quarterback Geno Smith, the Seahawks could see more two-deep shells. That would open up the run front for Kenneth Walker III and impact the offense there, too.”

Hyatt (6-foot-0, 176 pounds) comes with high-level athleticism. At the combine he posted a 4.4 forty, a 40″ vertical and an 11’3″ broad jump. He has a 9.46 relative athletic score, the seventh-best among receivers in his class.

Last season he averaged totaled 1,267 receiving yards and 15 touchdown catches while averaging 18.9 yards per reception.

Now let’s take a look at his 2022 highlight reel.

Who does this simulation have as the NCAA Tournament national champions?

Wolverine Studios latest simulation projects the entire 2023 NCAA men’s tournament.

Filling out your bracket is a national tradition. Just as much as watching your bracket get busted in round one is.

There is so much uncertainty when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, which is why March is one of the best sports months of the year. Our days are filled with basketball for 12 hours a day.

One company, Wolverines Studios, took it a step further than just a bracket. They developed a simulation to determine just who would be the 2023 national champions. There were some surprises in this simulation, very similar to what we have seen over the years with Cinderella runs to the Elite Eight.

For this simulation we took our game, Draft Day Sports: College Basketball 2023, and used a community-created mod to place the real schools into a bracket using our built in game function called Tournament Maker. This feature allows you to create a custom 64-team tournament within the game and simulate or play out the games so we entered the teams into their proper bracket spots and simulated the results of the tournament.

Our simulation shows two of the top seeds heading into the finals and meeting in the championship game with Houston coming out on top over Alabama. The West top seed Kansas made a valiant run to be knocked out in the West regional finals by Gonzaga while Tennessee played spoiler for Purdue before being knocked out themselves in the East regional finals by Marquette. In our simulation, only one of the four 12 seeds advanced with Drake upsetting Miami and possibly the most surprising result was Utah State making a strong run from the 10th seed all the way to the South regional finals. – Gary Gorski, President of Wolverine Studios

March Madness: A look at the women’s NCAA championship history

A look back at the Women’s NCAA tournament history.

The first four games of the 2023 March Madness Women’s tournament start Wednesday and Thursday, March 15-16. This will be the 42nd women’s tournament in NCAA history.

The first Division 1 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship tournament took place in 1982. The matchup was between Louisiana Tech, who ended up being crowned champion, and Cheyney State. It was not the first championship game to be played in the sport, but it was the first to be held under the auspices of the NCAA.

Cheyney State also made history, although, they didn’t quite know it yet. They were the only HBCU to make it to the championship game and to the Final Four. They remain the only HBCU to make it to the championship to this day.

Howard University and Jackson State also appeared in the 1982 tournament, but only Cheyney State made it to the last dance. Since then, 19 HBCU women’s basketball programs have played in the March Madness bracket. Hampton has the most appearances in the tournament for an HBCU with 9 appearances, but have yet to win a game.

The University of Tennessee and the University of Connecticut have dominated the championships with eight and 11 national titles, respectively.

This coincides with the women’s college basketball coaches with the most wins in Division I, with legends Tara VanDerveer, Geno Auriemma, and Pat Summit, taking the top three spots.

With the action shortly underway in this year’s tournament, we must take a moment to recognize and respect the history. This is only the second year the women’s tournament was given the rights to use the term March Madness in connection with their championship tournament, with much credit going to Oregon’ Sedona Prince and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley for bringing light to the inequity.

For years the NCAA only used the term March Madness, which is the intellectual property of the association, in relation to the men’s tournament. The influx of investment because of the use that the term March Madness brings to the women’s game cannot be understated.

On Tuesday, ESPN announced they had “sold out of in-game sponsorship opportunities for the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.” This continues to show more brands are flocking to the women’s game.

10 programs with a realistic chance to reach CFP in 2023

With the 2023 offseason officially underway, take a look at 10 teams that could start the season with serious CFP chances.

This season was almost a walk in the park for the Georgia Bulldogs, capped by their cruising to a 65-7 victory over TCU in the national championship game.

However, that situation could change next season as teams will vie for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

A few programs that seem to always be in the mix are Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia. They have proven, sustained success over the years. It shows the program’s culture and identity.

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at 10 of the programs that have a realistic chance of reaching the College Football Playoff in 2023.

Tennessee adds another 4-star recruit with Vysen Lang commitment

Tennessee is getting close to cracking the top 10 in the 2023 recruiting cycle rankings.

Tennessee is getting close to cracking the top 10 in the 2023 recruiting cycle rankings. The Vols’ latest commitment has pushed them up to No. 11.

On Tuesday night, Pike Road (Ala.) offensive tackle Vysen Lang announced that he would play his college ball for Josh Heupel and the Vols. He had previously narrowed his finalist list to Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and Texas.

Lang (6-foot-4, 335 pounds) has been playing left tackle but is expected to move inside to guard in college. Either way, he was one of the top remaining undecided offensive linemen in his class. Lang is ranked No. 51 among interior linemen in his class and No. 26 in the state, per 247 Sports.

Lang had visited Tennessee twice this season and came away impressed with how they treated their recruits, per Rivals.

“The fan base at Tennessee, they have the craziest, nicest fans in the world. During the games, they’re all crazy and hyped and outside the game they’re all coming up to me and saying, ‘Hi, welcome to Knoxville,’ and being really nice. I connect with players in the locker room and Coach (Josh) Heupel, (Alex) Golesh, and (Glen) Elarbee are family oriented coaches that treat their players like family.”

Tennessee now has 12 four-star recruits in its 2023 class. Their gem is five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava, the third-ranked QB in the nation.

Bowl Projections: Is Texas back in the New Years Six hunt?

College Wire Regional Editor breaks down his CFP and NY6 matchup projections through Week 10.

There are just three weeks left in the regular season before we gear up for championship weekend and selection Sunday.

We have seen some separation among the contenders and pretenders in the College Football Playoffs seeding but we still have plenty left to decide. The Georgia Bulldogs took firm control of the SEC East on Saturday with their win.

With the loss by the Clemson Tigers, it has opened the door for the Big 12 and Pac-12 to climb into the conversation. The Big 12 has the edge with an undefeated team leading the way.

In the history of the CFP, only the SEC has produced two playoff teams in a single season, they did it twice. Could Ohio State and Michigan give the Big Ten that honor in 2022?

We check in on the New Years Six and the College Football Playoffs with this week’s projections.

College Football Week 10 Scoreboard: 3 in top 6, 9 in top 25 go down!!

One of the biggest Saturdays of the fall is underway. Keep updated here!

The final month of the 2022 college football season opens with what is perhaps the second-biggest day of games so far this year.  It will be tough to ultimately top the events of October 15 when Tennessee and Alabama highlighted an all-time afternoon, but Saturday, Nov. 5 will go a very long way in determining not just the College Football Playoff but conference and division titles alike.

Upsets will cost teams big-time dreams and goals while heavy winds across the midwest could make things really interesting in more than a couple of contests.  Here are all the happenings for each CFP top-25 team this week.

PHOTOS: Alabama’s disheartening loss to Tennessee in Neyland Stadium

We’re not sure if any Alabama fan would want to relive this game, but here are the best pictures from 2022’s Third Saturday in October.

Alabama is no longer undefeated in the 2022 season and the 15-year win streak over Tennessee has come to an end. The Volunteers won by a field goal as time expired against a Crimson Tide team that played sloppily on both sides of the ball.

Penalties, which had been a problem for Alabama through the first six weeks, were a real difference-maker in this contest. An Alabama record of 17 penalties were called on the Crimson Tide.

At the end of the day, Alabama beat itself.

We’re not sure why any Alabama fan would want to relive this game. However, if you do, here are the top images from the Week 7 battle between Alabama and Tennessee.

Ohio State among the midseason CFP projections

A look at the top 10 contenders for the College Football Playoffs midway through the season.

As we approach the slate of games in Week 7, we have hit the midway mark of the 2022-23 college football season. Looking across the landscape of college football, the contenders are rising to the top and the pretenders are sinking toward the bottom.

In last season’s CFP bracket, fans saw two new contenders join the fray. The Michigan Wolverines and Cincinnati Bearcats made their first appearances but it doesn’t look like a Group of Five team will repeat this season. The Wolverines could make another run but they have a top matchup with Penn State this weekend and then Ohio State at the end of the year.

Two honorable mentions in my initial projections, are the Oregon Ducks and UCLA Bruins. Both teams could make a run as the season continues if they can keep stacking wins each week.

As we move into Week 7, I break down the initial CFP top 10 projections. This is how I believe the committee would rank them and not my own top 10.
