Seahawks Week 15 injury report: Jamal Adams, Devon Witherspoon out again

Here are all the updates from Friday’s practice.

The Seahawks held their second official practice of the week today as they continue to prepare for Monday night’s game against the Eagles. Starting quarterback Geno Smith remains limited, but sounds on track to play. Meanwhile, Jamal Adams did not practice for the second straight day and neither did rookie corner Devon Witherspoon.

Here are all the updates from Friday’s practice.

Steelers WR George Pickens clearly isn’t happy with his role in offense

George Pickens isn’t happy with how he’s being used in the Steelers offense.

There is no denying the talent of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. His highlights are as good as any receiver in the NFL now or maybe ever. Unfortunately, his opportunities for highlights this season have been few and far between.

At least some of the reason why Pickens has struggled is because the route tree he’s seeing in games does not maximize his athletic potential. A detail not missed on Pickens and he wasn’t shy talking about it.

“I don’t know, you guys be at practice, right,” Pickens said. “I would just say I hope to see things like that. When it’s routes like that, I mean, I can’t really produce that way, running five-yard routes, three-yard routes.”

There are really two ways to look at this. If you side with Pickens then absolutely, only running short routes limits his opportunities. But the other side of this puts the onus on Pickens. The best receivers in the NFL don’t just run go routes. They make catches and turn those into big plays regardless of the route. The routes Pickens wants to run are low-percentage plays and the Steelers offense needs to be more efficient.

Seahawks 2023 practice squad tracker: DE Hamilcar Rashed signs

Our practice squad tracker is updated.

The Seattle Seahawks lost their second-year outside linebacker Tyreke Smith this week when he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals off their practice squad. The team has just announced that they’ve signed former Oregon State defensive end Hamilcar Rashed to take Smith’s place.

Our practice squad tracker is updated (Dec. 15).

Steelers LB T.J. Watt clarifies he was cleared on Thursday night

T.J. Watt assured everyone he was checked out during the game last week and was allowed to come back.

On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt took a big hit to the head on the first play of the game. Watt was checked out but stayed in the game. The day after the game, Watt was placed in the concussion protocol where he remained until this Thursday.

Watt spoke to the media about his return and he made sure to be very clear that he was cleared to return after the examination in the blue medical tent. The NFL and NFLPA were looking into the situation in part due to the fact that the hit was so severe and shortly after it, Watt swapped out for a very dark tinted visor.

When asked about the switch, Watt snapped back and said he wouldn’t get into the specifics of why he did it but pointed out he typically wears a visor. Watt’s fellow starting outside linebacker Alex Highsmith also came out of concussion protocol on Thursday and both are expected to play Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Steelers WR George Pickens takes jab at his quarterbacks

George Pickens went third person to make his point on Thursday.

Despite everything that has taken place over the last few weeks, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens doesn’t seem to have learned a thing. Pickens has been called out for his sideline antics and just recently, former Steeler Merril Hoge called him out along with his teammates for lazy route running.

But Pickens is undeterred from his thankless self-promotion. On Thursday he stepped it up a notch by going third-person when he addressed the media on Thursday.

“I’m still doing what George does to get open and catch the ball and score,” Pickens said. “That’s all I want to do.”

Loosely translated, Pickens is doing his job, getting open, but his quarterbacks can’t get him the football. This might be true to a degree. Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett have been pretty awful this season. Saying it the way he did publicly isn’t exactly the team-first attitude you like to see but I think we all understand this is not your father’s Steelers team.

Pete Carroll says Geno Smith ‘feels really good’ after walk-through practice

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says quarterback Geno Smith ‘feels really good’ after a walk-through practice on Thursday.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll’s whole happy, sunshine all-the-time thing is being tested by the team’s four-game losing streak. While you can hear his patience thinning, Carroll is still trying to put on a positive spin. Asked today about the status of starting quarterback Geno Smith, he said that he “feels really good” after participating in a walk-through practice.

Carroll also told reporters at the VMAC that rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon will not practice with what they’re calling a hip pointer.

Last week the Seahawks listed Smith as questionable and called it a game-time decision, but by the time pre-game warmups started it was apparent that they’d already decided to sit him. Smith’s groin issue is being called a “two-week injury,” implying he might miss Monday night, as well.

Instead Seahawks fans got the full Drew Lock experience in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers. Lock showed off his superior velocity and range and his accuracy was on-point. However, Lock also threw several of what Carroll called bone-headed throws, including one when he was already past the line of scrimmage. Lock finished the game with two interceptions but could just as easily have had four.

We’ll learn more throughout the week. The first injury report should be out soon.

DK Metcalf smashes part of Seahawks bench to pieces with his helmet

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is clearly frustrated.

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is clearly frustrated. He started off this game hot, scoring a touchdown in the first quarter on a 31-yard gutsy throw from backup quarterback Drew Lock. However, he’s been quiet ever since and hasn’t gotten much attention from No. 2. Now in the fourth quarter, Metcalf has just two catches for 52 total yards.

On the Fox broadcast of the game, they caught Metcalf having a mini-tantrum on the sidelines after Lock’s interception. Watch DK smash the part of the Seahawks bench that holds/warms the helmets.

While they’ve had their moments with explosive plays, they’ve only scored nine points since that first possession. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball they’ve allowed over 450 yards to the Niners.

Seattle trails 28-16 with 10 minutes to go.
