Potential Thunder draft prospect Donovan Clingan leads UConn past Stetson in dominant win

Potential Thunder draft prospect Donovan Clingan leads UConn past Stetson in dominant win.

The Oklahoma City Thunder could have two 2024 first-round picks in the lottery range. They own the Houston Rockets’ top-four protected pick and the Utah Jazz’s top-10 protected pick. The former looks more likely to go to OKC than the latter.

As the NCAA Tournament progresses, the top prospects are in the spotlight as they draw national eyes for their postseason performances.

Considering the Thunder will likely have at least one lottery pick, plenty of possible additions via the draft give fans a chance to see how they match up in high-stress situations.

One possibility is UConn center Donovan Clingan. He finished with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting, eight rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes in No. 1 UConn’s 91-52 win over No. 16 Stetson in the Round of 64 on Friday.

In his second season, Clingan has been part of a dominant UConn squad that seeks to repeat as national champions. The 7-foot-2 center averaged 12.5 points on 64% shooting, 7.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks.

At 280 pounds, he has an NBA-ready frame and can give a team a classic rim-running big who can protect the rim. UConn went 31-3 and is No. 1 in the East Region.

The Thunder could hope to add Clingan to add some serious size at their center spot. He could start alongside Holmgren for jumbo lineups or serve as an efficient backup center for OKC.

Ranking Heisman Trophy contenders after Week 5 of college football

Ranking the top 25 Heisman contenders after Week 5 – We had to drop Stetson a little after Saturday’s game.

In most cases, the Heisman Trophy is a quarterback’s award. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young looks to repeat in 2022 but he has stiff competition from Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, USC’s Caleb Williams, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett – despite a subpar game from the reining national title winner over the weekend.

This week’s rankings include guys who are putting up wild numbers. Players like Illinois running back Chase Brown, Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim, Old Dominion wide receiver Ali Jennings III, Purdue receiver Charlie Jones, UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kansas State’s Adrian Martinez. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers continues to rise as well. And let’s not forget about the defensive studs like Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders and Alabama’s Will Anderson, who both faced off against each other this past weekend.

Watch: Highlights as No. 4 Notre Dame baseball gets win number-two

Win number two in the books!

Notre Dame’s baseball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 5-3 victory at Stetson on Saturday night.  The Irish fell behind 1-0 early before rallying for five-straight runs and holding onto the 5-3 win.

The Irish look to move to 3-0 on the season early Sunday when they take on the former employer of Mike Brey, Delaware, at 9 a.m. ET.  That game will cap the opening weekend for the Irish.

Below are highlights from Notre Dame’s 5-3 win on Saturday night as the Irish get off to a 2-0 start on what will hopefully be a very memorable baseball season.

Watch: Highlights from No. 4 Notre Dame’s season opening win

W.

The No. 4 Notre Dame baseball team started the 2022 with an easy victory over Manhattan, who they routed 17-2 at Stetson in Florida.

The Irish hit three home runs in the rout – two off the bat of Brooks Koetzee III and another by Jack Zyska to straight-away center field that stretched Notre Dame’s lead to 17-0 in the eighth inning.

It was a rout from the start as Notre Dame did to Manhattan what a top-five ranked team nationally is supposed to do against a team like Manhattan.

Enjoy a few of the highlights from the blowout victory that made the Irish 1-0 on the year below:

Notre Dame adds another PWO defender to their 2022 recruiting class

Another W over the Wolverines

It seemed like the Irish were going to have a very quiet late signing period but that all changed this evening. Florida defensive athlete Tre Reader announced his intentions to join the Notre Dame football team as a preferred walk-on.

The six-foot-two-inch and 210-pound Reader will either grown into a linebacker or a defensive end, depending on how his body fills out over the next few years. He chose the Irish over offers from Columbia, Fordham and Stetson while also having an opportunity to walk-on at Michigan as well.

Any time the Irish beat the Wolverines it is a win and Reader could develop into a contributor a few years down the road.

Lady Vols basketball trounce Stetson

Lady Vols basketball trounce Stetson.

KNOXVILLE — The Tennessee Volunteers women’s basketball team defeated the Stetson Hatters on Tuesday night, 73-46, in their 500th game at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Lady Vols were led by Rennia Davis, who scored 15 points, along with five rebounds and two assists. Jordan Horston scored 11 points in the first quarter, including three three-pointers, en route to a 14 point performance in support; she also grabbed five boards and dished out seven assists. Three other players — Jazmine Massengill, Kasiyahna Kushkituah and Rae Burrell — also posted double-digit points.

The Volunteers came out of the gates making three buckets from beyond the arc on three straight possessions, missing the fourth consecutive attempt to break the streak. The Lady Vols never trailed and reached their biggest lead of 27 at the 1:52 mark of the fourth quarter, which ultimately was the final margin of victory.

Tennessee shot 43 percent from the field with a 38 percent mark from three-point range after a hot start, and they posted a 65 percent free throw average on 23 attempts — all numbers that indicate another solid performance by the squad. Their 13 turnovers to Stetson’s 11 suggest that the game was well-executed on both sides.

The win improved the program to an incredible 455-45 record at Thompson-Boling Arena in their second game of a six-game homestand. It also marks head coach Kellie Harper’s first 5-0 start of her career.

The Volunteers will next host the Arkansas-Pine Bluffs Golden Lions next Tuesday, November 26, heading into the Thanksgiving break. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

UT News: November 19, 2019

Excitement for the upcoming match between the Tennessee Volunteers and Missouri Tigers football teams is steadily rising, fueled by the Vols’ three-game winning streak and their push for a bowl bid. Speaking of winning streaks, the Lady Vols basketball squad look to extend their season opening surge to five games tonight against the Stetson Hatters. For starters, one particular Vol has been playing his best in recent weeks.

Warrior playing his best football

Senior DB Nigel Warrior has been playing his heart out this season.

His 58 tackles are the second most for the Vols and he is currently in a tie with three other players for most interceptions in the Southeastern Conference, with four; three of those interceptions have come in the last five games. He has also broken up five passes and added a tackle for loss.

Head coach Jeremy Pruitt had the following to say about his star secondary player.

“Nigel has continued to work hard every day at practice. He’s been a really good leader for us. He has improved tremendously from last year to this year and he continues to get better. He’s playing his best football right now.

“He’s kind of turning into a complete player, whether it’s playing the ball, playing man-to-man, or tackling in space, he has improved and continues to improve in all of those areas. Like everybody else, he wants to play his best game this next week. So, he’s going to work hard to do it this week.”

Warrior has been named to the PFF College SEC Team of the Week now twice and on the PFF’s National Team of the Week once.
