Lady Vols shut out Alabama to win SEC series

Tennessee records second consecutive shutout against Alabama to win series.

No. 3 Tennessee (37-8, 16-4 SEC) defeated Alabama (31-14, 8-12 SEC), 2-0, Saturday at Rhoads Field in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Lady Vols won its fourth consecutive game and clinched a SEC series win.

Saturday also marked the second consecutive time Tennessee has shut out Alabama during the series.

Rylie West went 2-for-3 for Tennessee. She hit a solo home run, while recording one run and one RBI. Destiny Rodriguez went 3-for-3 and recorded one RBI.

Karlyn Pickens (17-5) pitched seven innings for Tennessee. She recorded seven strikeouts, while totaling 79 pitches (52 strikes).

First pitch for Sunday’s series finale is slated for 2 p.m. EDT and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

No. 4 Tennessee (34-8, 14-4 SEC) defeated No. 7 LSU (35-10, 11-10 SEC), 3-0, Sunday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Lady Vols clinched a series win against LSU.

Sunday’s series finale was scoreless until Tennessee scored three run in the sixth inning. Giulia Koutsoyanopulos and Rylie West hit doubles in the inning, which was Tennessee’s first extra-base hit during the series.

Koutsoyanopulos went 1-for-3. She recorded one double and two RBIs, while Gabby Leach went 1-for-1. Leach recorded a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth inning.

Karlyn Pickens (16-6) pitched six innings and earned a win for the Lady Vols. She recorded seven strikeouts and totaled 119 pitches (74 strikes).

Payton Gottshall earned her second save of the season. She pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts.

The Lady Vols scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning, taking advantage of three errors by LSU. Tennessee recorded three hits in the contest.

Kiki Milloy, the Lady Vols’ leadoff hitter, went 1-for-2. She was hit by a pitch and recorded one RBI and one stolen base, while Rylie West went 1-for-3 and scored one run.

Sophia Nugent and Taylor Pannell scored runs for the Lady Vols.

Payton Gottshall started for the Lady Vols and pitched 6.1 innings. She allowed two hits and recorded three strikeouts.

Karlyn Pickens recorded the last two outs and earned her first save of the 2024 season.

Tennessee won the Southeastern Conference series, 2-1, against the Bulldogs.

Sophia Nugent went 1-for-3 and hit a three-run home run during the sixth inning for the Lady Vols. Rylie West went 2-for-3 and recorded one run for Tennessee.

Georgia led, 1-0, during the third inning after pinch hitter Jaiden Fields recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Payton Gottshall (13-3) pitched two innings of scoreless relief for Tennessee and recorded three strikeouts.

Karlyn Pickens started for the Lady Vols and pitched five innings. She allowed one run, three hits and one walk, while recording eight strikeouts.

No. 3 Georgia (31-7, 7-4 SEC) defeated No. 6 Tennessee (29-6, 9-2 SEC), 3-2, Saturday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

With the victory, the Bulldogs tied the SEC series despite being outhit by the Lady Vols, 5-4. Georgia never trailed in the contest.

McKenna Gibson went 1-for-3 for Tennessee. She recoded one RBI, while Laura Mealer, batting in the leadoff spot in place of the injured Kiki Milloy, went 1-for-4 and recorded one run.

Alannah Leach went 1-for-3 and recorded one double. Rylie West went 1-for-3 and Destiny Rodriguez went 0-for-2. She recorded one RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Payton Gottshall (12-3) recorded a loss for the Lady Vols. She pitched six innings in relief and allowed one run and one hit, while recording seven strikeouts.

The Lady Vols remain undefeated at home and have won 13 games this season at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

McKenna Gibson went 3-for-4 for the Lady Vols. She recorded a two-run home run, one double, one run and two RBIs, while Zaida Puni went 1-for-4. Puni recorded one double and two RBIs.

Rylie West went 1-for-4 and scored two runs, while Sophia Nugent went 1-for-2. Nugent recorded one RBI and one walk in the contest.

Friday’s win is Tennessee’s 19th consecutive. Tennessee remains the only undefeated team in Southeastern Conference play.

Catcher Sophia Nugent went 2-for-3 for the Lady Vols. She recorded a two-run home run, a solo home run, three RBIs and two runs.

Rylie West went 1-for-4 and hit a solo home run against the Tigers.

The Lady Vols won the series and is the only remaining undefeated team in the Southeastern Conference.

Tennessee has won 17 consecutive games.

Rylie West went 1-for-2. She recorded a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly, three RBIs and one run for Tennessee.

Laura Mealer went 1-for-2 and hit a two-run home run for the Lady Vols. McKenna Gibson went 2-for-4. She recorded one run and one RBI.

Kiki Milloy’s 18-game hit streak ended as she went 0-for-3. She recoded two walks and one run.
