No update on Spencer Brown’s timeline from Bills’ Sean McDermott

No update on Spencer Brown’s timeline from #Bills’ Sean McDermott:

There was no update provided by Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott on Spencer Brown’s status on Friday.

A day prior, the Bills (6-3) placed the rookie right tackle on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Depending on his vaccination status, Brown might miss two games.

On Sunday, Buffalo hosts the Indianapolis Colts (5-5). Then on Thanksgiving, the Bills travel to face the New Orleans Saints (5-4).

“I can’t get into that,” McDermott said via video conference. “He’s in the COVID protocols.”

The Bills do know Brown’s vaccination status but are declining to specific which COVID protocol Brown is currently in.

Per NFL rules, if the rookie right tackle is not vaccinated, he is now out 10 days, no questions asked.

If he vaccinated, Brown has to return two negative tests on back-to-back days before re-joining the team.

Brown is likely out for the team’s upcoming game vs. the Colts. Potentially playing against the Saints is not off the table if Brown is vaccinated.

Bills Wire will provide any updates as they become available.

Bills place Spencer Brown on COVID-19 list as Jake Kumerow is removed

#Bills place Spencer Brown on COVID-19 list as Jake Kumerow is removed:

The Reserve/COVID-19 list has been far too active for the Buffalo Bills’ liking in recent weeks.

On Thursday, the Bills (6-3) have movement regarding it in both directions.

The team announced that offensive lineman Spencer Brown was placed on the designation. On the positive side, wide receiver Jake Kumerow has been removed from the list.

Unfortunately for Buffalo, by comparison, Brown has been a far larger impact maker for the team in recent weeks.

Brown returned from a back injury last week against the New York Jets and the play from the entire offensive line improved. Now, he’s sidelined again for the Bills’ upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts (5-5).

The next question is Brown’s vaccination status.

Per NFL rules, if the rookie right tackle is not vaccinated, he is now out 10 days, no questions asked.

If he is, Brown has to return two negative tests on back-to-back days before re-joining the team.

That’s a critical question because Buffalo is on a short week.

After hosting the Colts, the Bills play on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday against the New Orleans Saints.

Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei also remains on the designation as well.

Bills Wire will provide updates on Brown and others in the coming days as information is made available.

Bills at Jets: 3 key matchups in Week 10

#Bills at #Jets: 3 key matchups in Week 10:

The Buffalo Bills will face the New York Jets in their latest AFC East matchup in 2021 during Sunday’s Week 10 contest.

Regardless of the higher stakes due to the conference standings, the games, within the game, will still make all the difference.

With that, here are three key matchups to watch between the Bills (5-3) and Jets (2-6):

LOOK: Video of Dawson Knox, injured Bills players during practice

A couple of looks at some injured #Bills players at practice this week ahead of Sunday’s #Jaguars meeting:

The Buffalo Bills have had some names on their injury report that were expected this week. Others, a surprise.

Among the one we knew were coming: tight end Dawson Knox and offensive lineman Spencer Brown.

Knox has a broken hand and is expected to miss a few games because of it. Brown, a rookie, was listed on the injury report coming out of the bye week.

Brown has a back injury and did not play vs the Miami Dolphins in Week 8. Can he go this week? So far, he hasn’t practiced, but isn’t ruled out like Knox for Buffalo’s upcoming game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On the other end of the spectrum is wide receiver Cole Beasley. He was dinged up vs. the Dolphins and has a rib injury.

Beasley was a big impact maker in last week’s game, so his name comes to us as a surprise.

Considering a couple their statuses for Sunday and the coming weeks ahead are up in the air, here’s a look at those three in practice this week via Spectrum News:

Worth noting, these videos do not contain offensive lineman Jon Feliciano. Considered a “week-to-week” injury on Monday via Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott, he’s unlikely to play vs. the Jaguars.

Feliciano was injured late in Buffalo’s last game.

According to The Athletic on Thursday, Feliciano was not practicing.

Sean McDermott says Cody Ford ‘improving’ as Spencer Brown battles injury

#Bills’ Sean McDermott says Cody Ford ‘improving’ as Spencer Brown battles injury ahead of facing #Dolphins:

The Buffalo Bills might be without their new-ish look offensive line against the Miami Dolphins.

After having last week off due to their bye, when the Bills (4-2) returned to practice this week, rookie tackle Spencer Brown wasn’t there. He has missed time due to a back injury.

On Friday via WGR-550 radio, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott did not rule Brown out of playing on Sunday. However, not practicing for most of the week is not a good sign.

If Brown can’t go, the easy guess would be Cody Ford heading back into the lineup.

When the Bills did change around their O-line, Ford was sent to the bench. Brown began starting.

Considering that, if it is Ford that takes starting reps for Brown pending his health vs. the Dolphins (1-6) on Sunday, there does appear to be some confidence in the benched player.

McDermott acknowledged that Ford is “fighting for his job” and the coach added that there has been improvement in Ford’s game.

Here’s what McDermott said on Friday:

We might not know about the decision on who starts until just prior to kickoff. If Ford does play, we will see if his improvement in McDermott’s eyes is accurate or not.

According to Pro Football Focus, it might be easy to tell.

Overall, the football analytics outlet grades Ford as a brutal 41.1 mark so far this season.

Brown’s grade is an average one for PFF’s standards, but by comparison, is much better at 59.9.

In addition to Ford potentially playing, there could be movement in other places on the offensive line.

Ford could be put back into the lineup at guard, not Brown’s tackle spot. Doing so would move Daryl Williams to tackle.

Now the Buffalo Bills know they can beat the back-to-back AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Bills made a statement on Sunday night, routing the Chiefs by 18 points, and they are now fully in control of getting the top playoff seed in the AFC.

Following the Bills’ win, here’s how Bills Wire graded Buffalo out in this week’s report card:

5 Chiefs players the Bills must game plan for in Week 5

It’s well known that the Chiefs carry a roster littered with talent. But of those players, which do the Bills need to keep an eye on the most?

Winners & losers from the Bills’ Week 4 win vs. the Texans

Winners & losers from the #Bills’ Week 4 win vs. the #Texans:

The Buffalo Bills were big winners for the third week in a row, topping the Houston Texans, 40-0.

Here are Bills Wire’s winners and losers from the action that was in Week 4:

Bills’ Mitch Morse: Spencer Brown ‘rose to the occasion’ in first start

A lot of big praise for #Bills rookie Spencer Brown after Sunday’s win… and it sounds like he’s not leaving the starting lineup:

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbw1j59gmjw5gdj player_id=none image=https://billswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Right at the center of the Buffalo Bills’ changes made to their offensive line this week… was center Mitch Morse.

The positions to Morse’s right saw some massive differences in Week 4. Against the Houston Texans, Daryl Williams slid from right tackle to right guard, next to Morse.

That left an opening which was filled by Spencer Brown at right tackle. The third-round rookie got his first-career start and the players depending on him were impressed with his efforts in the 40-0 win.

“I thought Spencer had tremendous poise, he always has,” Morse said via video conference. “He rose to the occasion. Spencer is an incredibly talented football player. Like any guy on the offensive line, I think he would say he’s got some work to do. But for the most part, I think Spencer preformed admirably, was communicating very well, played beyond his years in that regard.”

Along with Brown, Williams also received a positive review from Morse.

“Daryl has had that versatility in the past and I think he rose to the occasion,” Morse added. “Made my job a lot easier, at times.”

According to the eye test, Brown did have some promising play during the game. Quarterback Josh Allen’s analysis matched that, too.

Allen said Brown’s first start made him look like a vet.

“I think he handled it like a pro,” Allen said via video conference. “He’s a guy that pops off the tape his effort, his attitude, I’m extremely glad we drafted him. He’s a special player and I have a lot of faith in him.”

From the sounds of it, Brown might be getting a second chance in the Bills’ biggest game of the season coming this weekend to prove that wasn’t just a coincidence.

The Bills (3-1) visit the Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) next week. The last time Buffalo did that, Brown wasn’t in the NFL yet and the loss kept the Bills from advancing to the Super Bowl.

Still, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott praised Brown, a great sign. He also did so on Monday, well after the game.

McDermott and the coaching staff went and grinded the heck out of some game tape the day after the Houston win. Upon that further review, McDermott said moving forward he thinks the offensive line which played against the Texans will “continue” moving forward.

“I liked some of what I saw,” McDermott said. “I thought (Brown) showed poise. I thought he showed physical and mental toughness. I thought he gave us a real boost there.”

It remains to be seen if the Bills do continue with that same front five. At minimum, it appears that Williams and Brown will play on the right side for the foreseeable future.

Another area to monitor will be the left guard position and how Jon Feliciano’s health alters this plan.

Ike Boettger started in place of Feliciano due to a concussion he suffered in practice last week. It’s unclear if McDermott referencing keeping the O-line the same includes Feliciano or not.
