Ohio State social media reacts to the Jeremiah Smith early signing period drama

What a fun day it was, and social media was there for it all. #GoBucks

Whew. If this is the new normal with name, image and likeness and the high stakes of big-time college football recruiting, I’m not sure some media members are going to last in the business.

By now, you know all of the drama surrounding Ohio State’s crown jewel of the 2024 recruiting class, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the No.1 overall prospect. You know the story by now, but the CliffsNotes version is he was reportedly torn between Ohio State and Miami (Florida), chose the Buckeyes on a national video stream, but then waited hours upon hours to fax (yes, fax) in his national letter of intent.

But, hey, at least it came and cemented his commitment that had been out there for a year, so that the coaches and Buckeye Nation can breathe one heck of a collective, deep sigh.

As with any story with viral momentum, social media was all over it and we were there for it. In fact, we’ve pulled out some of the best posts on X, formerly Twitter, to share with you.

Here are some of the most noteworthy and best social media posts surrounding the day in the life of recruiting — and ultimately signing — Smith.

Best social media reactions after the Jets beat the Houston Texans in Week 14 to snap five-game losing streak

The Jets stunned the Houston Texans 30-6 as the defense swarmed quarterback C.J. Stroud and stifled the Texans offense while Zach Wilson gave perhaps the performance of his life as he began what may be the final stretch of his career with the Jets. The Jets snapped a five-game losing streak and moved to 5-8 on the season, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.

This game certainly provided some interesting reactions across social media. Here are some of the notable reactions from the game.

Pre-game buzz: Fans ready for final non-conference clash between Hogs and Sooners

Arkansas and Oklahoma are moments away from tipping off in Tulsa. Here’s what they’re saying on social media ahead of the game.

One last ride for the “Crimson & Cardinal Classic.”

Today’s game between [autotag]Arkansas basketball[/autotag] and No. 19 Oklahoma marks the final time these two teams will play as non-conference foes before the Sooners officially join the SEC next year.

This will be the third game since it was officially dubbed the “Crimson & Cardinal Classic” and the teams split each of the first two contests. Arkansas won last year and Oklahoma won the inaugural matchup in 2021.

The Hogs own a 17-13 advantage over the Sooners in the all-time series and are 6-1 in games played on neutral a neutral floor.

Don’t let series history fool you, though, as Oklahoma enters 8-0 on the year and ranked No. 19 in the country. They’ll present a big challenge for the Hogs, who desperately need this win to bolster their tournament resume later down the road.

With this game taking place inside the BOK Center in Tulsa, it always attracts a strong contingent of Razorback faithful. It should be an entertaining matchup that will have fans talking.

Here’s what they’re saying on social media ahead of this afternoon’s matchup.

Social media reacts to departure of running back Trevor Etienne

Social media was ablaze following Trevor Etienne’s announcement on Thursday.

Florida football fans got some gut-wrenching news on Thursday when sophomore running back [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag] announced that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

The news shook the Gator Nation to the core as the younger brother of NFL star running back Travis showed glimpses of potential that the elder has shown throughout his career on the gridiron.

The 5-foot-9-inch, 205-pound back from Jennings, Louisiana, rushed 249 times for 1,472 yards overall, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt and 14 touchdowns; he also caught 30 receptions for 238 yards and a score. Etienne finished second on the team in rushing yards with 719 in 2022 and 753 in 2023; he also averaged 24.8 yards per attempt over 26 kickoff returns.

Take a look below at the reactions from the fanbase on Twitter following the departure of a future star running back.

Social Media Reacts: Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel enters the transfer portal

Social Media Reacts to the news that Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel is entering the transfer portal.

The opening day of the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag] has already provided an intriguing surprise. While it was expected that [autotag]Dillon Gabriel[/autotag] would move on from the Oklahoma Sooners after the 2023 season, the thought was he’d take his talents to the NFL.

That very well may happen, but Gabriel’s also going to explore his options at the collegiate level for one more season. He’s entering the transfer portal per multiple reports.

Gabriel shared a heartfelt goodbye on social media, which was flooded with responses thanking the Oklahoma Sooners quarterback.

His two years in Norman will be fondly remembered for helping steady the Sooners’ ship amid the coaching transition. His mentorship of Jackson Arnold and his offseason retreats with the offense set the tone and helped instill the character and identity that Brent Venables wants from his Oklahoma football program.

From his record-setting days to his last-minute comeback against Texas, Dillon Gabriel will forever be a legend in Norman.

Sooner Nation, social media reacts to Big 12 championship game

Sooner Nation and social media reacts to the Texas Longhorns win over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship game.

The Big 12 championship didn’t provide the theatrics we saw on Friday night in the Pac-12 title game. The Texas Longhorns dominated the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 49-21, to win their fourth Big 12 title.

Quinn Ewers was the player of the game, winning the inaugural Big 12 MVP title belt co-created with the WWE. Ewers threw for 452 yards and four touchdowns, and the Longhorns defense held Ollie Gordon to 34 yards rushing.

This game had some big plays and controversial officiating decisions. Both have been prevalent in the Big 12 this year.

At the end, Horns fans serenaded Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark with boos and chants of “S-E-C” as he presented the Big 12 title to Steve Sarkisian.

It was Texas’ fourth Big 12 championship, 10 behind the Oklahoma Sooners as the Red River Rivals head to the SEC in 2024.

Though Oklahoma wasn’t playing in the game, it generated significant interest in Sooner Nation watching their two biggest rivals go toe-to-toe.

Here’s how social media reacted to the game.

Social media reacts to Ohio State being eliminated from the College Football Playoff

Social media was all over Ohio State being eliminated from the College Football Playoff on Saturday. #GoBucks

Ohio State needed a lot of breaks and statistical anomalies to back into the College Football Playoff after it lost to Michigan, so it seemed like the writing was on the wall of inevitability.

Oregon lost to Washington on Friday night to keep hope alive, but it didn’t take long on Saturday to wipe that clean and almost assuredly eliminate the Buckeyes from the playoff. The end came when Oklahoma State was on the receiving end of a lashing from Texas in the Big 12 Championship game.

I guess there’s still a chance the College Football Playoff committee does somethings crazy (we’ve seen it before), but Buckeye Nation and the national media have come to the realization that OSU is likely out of the playoff and headed to South Florida for the Orange Bowl in a New Year’s Six matchup.

Social media, and most namely, X, formerly known as Twitter, was quick to react to the realization that Ohio State was out of the mix after what went down in Dallas, and we’ve some of the best reactions here.

Let’s get into the sad tale of reaction.

Reactions as Angel Reese, LSU knocks off Virginia Tech to earn top-10 win

The Tigers passed their first major test since the season-opening loss to Colorado.

LSU started its year off with a dud in Las Vegas against Colorado, but coach Kim Mulkey’s team passed its first major test since on Thursday night, beating No. 9 Virginia Tech 82-64 to move to 8-1 on the season.

With the victory, Mulkey has now reached 700 total wins in her career.

Angel Reese made her return to the court after missing the last four contests. She was a major part of the win, recording 19 points and nine rebounds. [autotag]Mikaylah Williams[/autotag] led the team with 20 points, while [autotag]Aneesah Morrow[/autotag] had a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Fans share their opinions on Billy Napier’s hot seat situation

Florida Gators football fans are upset with head coach Billy Napier’s tenure

The Florida Gators fell to 5-7 on Saturday night, and the program’s fan base is more than distraught over head coach Billy Napier’s two-year tenure.

Although the former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun play caller is doing well on the recruiting trail (Florida has the No. 5 class according to 247Sports), Gators fans are unhappy with the way the current team performed on the field.

Napier also recently fired two defensive coaches, Corey Raymond and Sean Spencer, seemingly to the dismay of numerous team members on the Gators defense and the Florida faithful.

Florida Gators fans took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to air out their frustrations over the second sub-par season in a row.
