SMU at Tulane odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s SMU at Tulane odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The SMU Mustangs (6-4, 4-2 AAC) meet the No. 21 Tulane Green Wave (8-2, 5-1) Thursday at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the SMU vs. Tulane odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Mustangs were sitting below .500 after an Oct. 22 loss to Cincinnati, but suddenly a light went off. SMU has scored 41 or more points in each of the last 3 games, outpacing the defense which has yielded 34 or more points in 2 of those games. SMU opened 1-5 ATS in the 1st 6 outings, but it has covered the last 4 games.

The Green Wave ripped off 5 straight wins and covers from Sept. 30 to Nov. 5, but that streak was halted with a 38-31 home loss to UCF last Saturday in a coin-flip game. Each of its 2 losses have been in 1-score games.

SMU at Tulane picks and predictions

Prediction

Tulane 35, SMU 32

Moneyline

TULANE (-180) is a moderate favorite, but it is worth playing for this bounce-back game.

The Green Wave have the horses to hang with the SMU (+145) offense which has been on fire lately. And the Tulane D ranks 20th in the nation with just 323.4 total yards allowed, while limiting the opposition to 175.5 passing yards per game (12th). This won’t be a defensive slog, certainly, but the Green Wave will use its offense and surprisingly good defense to cool off the Mustangs.

Against the spread

In 4 of its last 8 games, Tulane -3 (-114) has been involved in 1-score games. SMU +3 (-106) will be in this game all the way to the end, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Green Wave win it on a last-second field goal. This will be too close to lay or take the points. Just play the moneyline.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 65 (-110) is the lean, but play it slightly.

The SMU offense has scored 41 or more points in each of the last 3 outings. While the Under has been the overwhelming trend for the Mustangs on the season, it’s been about the Over lately.

The Over is 4-1 in Tulane’s last 5 appearances on a Thursday, and the Over is 5-2 in the last 7 home games against SMU, while cashing in 7 of the last 9 meetings in the series.

Cincinnati at SMU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Cincinnati at SMU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 19 Cincinnati Bearcats (5-1, 2-0 AAC) and SMU Mustangs (3-3, 1-1) play Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cincinnati vs. SMU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Bearcats have picked up 5 consecutive wins since opening with a 31-24 loss at Arkansas Sept. 3. While it has won 5 in a row, Cincinnati is just 2-2-1 ATS during the win streak while the Over has a slight 3-2-1 edge overall on the season.

The Mustangs held off Navy last weekend by a 40-34 count — their third time going for 40 or more points this season. Despite the win, SMU has failed to cover in 5 straight games, and last Saturday’s Over was just its second in 6 games overall.

Cincinnati at SMU picks and predictions

Prediction

Cincinnati 31, SMU 26

Moneyline

CINCINNATI (-165) isn’t terribly priced out of line if you want to play it straight up and forget about the points, especially since a 3 and a hook isn’t a terribly attractive number for a favorite.

Against the spread

CINCINNATI -3.5 (-102) is still worth playing despite the unsavory number, but go lightly.

While UC has not fared well against the number on the road, SMU is ice-cold in a lot of areas, too. The Mustangs have failed to cover the past 5 in a row and they’re 0-4 ATS in the past 4 conference games and 0-4 ATS in their past 4 at home. The Mustangs are also 1-4 ATS in the previous 5 against teams with an overall winning mark.

You’ll be bucking a trend with the Bearcats who are 0-3-1 ATS in the past 4 on the road, but Cincinnati is an impressive 3-1-1 ATS in the past 5 AAC games and 4-1 ATS in the previous 5 meetings with SMU.

Over/Under

UNDER 59.5 (-120) is the lean here, but go lightly.

The Under has cashed in 6 straight in this series, including last season’s 48-14 win in favor of the Bearcats.

The Under is also 6-2-1 in the past 9 on the road for UC and 4-1 in its previous 5 AAC games.

For the Mustangs, the Over is 5-1 in the previous 6 contests in Dallas, but the Under is 4-1 in the past 5 against winning teams.

Navy at SMU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Navy at SMU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Navy Midshipmen (2-3, 2-1 AAC) and the SMU Mustangs (2-3, 0-1) meet in a conference game Friday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Navy vs. SMU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Midshipmen started off slowly, including an outright loss to Delaware of the FCS as a 13-point favorite in the opener. However, Navy has wins in 2 of the last 3 games straight-up, while covering each of the last 3 outings.

The Mustangs opened 2-0 SU/1-1 ATS, but have dropped the last 3 games. That includes a 41-19 drumming from UCF on the road last weekend. SMU struggles to stop the run, and that’s not a good sign against a Navy team which always runs the ball well.

Navy at SMU picks and predictions

Prediction

SMU 34, Navy 27

Moneyline

SMU (-520) will cost you over 5 times your potential return, and that’s just too expensive for a team which cannot play defense very well.

PASS.

Against the spread

NAVY +12.5 (-110) is a strong play in this AAC road game. The Middies have managed an impressive 231.8 yards per game on the ground, ranking 12th overall, while they have mixed in an occasional pass. Navy isn’t scoring a lot of points, but it has picked up the pace lately.

SMU -12.5 (-110) will have difficulty pulling away from Navy, as the Mustangs rank 106th overall with 179.8 rushing yards per game allowed. Whenever SMU scores, Navy should be able to grind out an answer.

Over/Under

OVER 57.5 (-108) is the lean here.

While the Under is 5-1 in the last 6 road games for Navy, the Over has hit in 4 of the last 5 games inside the conference, while going 11-4 in the last 15 against losing teams.

For SMU, the Over has cashed in 4 of the last 5 games at home, while going 4-1 in the last 5 home games against Navy, and 5-2 in the previous 7 meetings in this series overall.

SMU at UCF odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s SMU Mustangs at UCF Knights odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The SMU Mustangs (2-2) and the UCF Knights (3-1) meet in the AAC opener for both teams Wednesday at FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the SMU vs. UCF odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

SMU is coming off a 42-34 loss at home against TCU on Sept. 24. The Mustangs have scored 27 or more points in each of its 4 games, although the Under has cashed in 3 of the 4 outings thanks to totals at 66 or more points.

UCF picked up a 27-10 win over Georgia Tech last time out on Sept. 24, and it has scored 27 or more points in 3 of its 4 games overall. The Knights have alternated covers and non-covers in each of its first 4 games to date, while cashing the Under in each of the previous 3 outings.

SMU at UCF picks and predictions

Prediction

UCF 37, SMU 31

Moneyline

UCF (-155) is a moderate favorite, but it is a good play if you’d prefer to have a stress-free night and not worry about the points. This should be a close game, perhaps decided by a last-second field goal, and 3 and a hook is a lot.

The home team has won 7 of the last 9 meetings straight-up in his series, and the Knights won 48-20 in the most recent meeting at the Bounce House in Orlando on Oct. 6, 2018.

Against the spread

UCF -3.5 (+102) is a little more risky laying the points in this potentially high-scoring game, but it’s more palatable since it is plus-money.

While the Knights are just 6-18 ATS across the last 24 conference games, UCF is 4-0-1 ATS in the last 5 home meetings with SMU. The home team is 8-0-1 ATS in the previous 9 games in the series, while the favorite is 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings, too.

Over/Under

OVER 64.5 (-110) is a strong play given the offensive production of SMU, and the lack of defense. The Over is 7-0 in the last 7 games for the Mustangs on a grass surface, too, while hitting in each of the last 4 following a bye week. However, the play isn’t without risk, as SMU has cashed the Under in each of the last 4 on the road.

For UCF, the Under is 5-1 in the last 6 at home, but the Over is 5-2 in the last 7 after a bye, and 4-0 in the previous 4 appearances on a Wednesday night. This won’t be a track meet, but it won’t be a defensive battle, either. Look for a total in the high 60’s, approaching 70.

TCU at SMU odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s TCU at SMU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The TCU Horned Frogs (2-0) travel to the heart of Dallas to battle their rivals the SMU Mustangs (2-1) Saturday at noon p.m. ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the TCU vs. SMU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The 101st Battle for the Iron Skillet takes on more excitement this season as coach Sunny Dykes returns to SMU after leaving the Mustangs to take over as TCU coach. TCU comes in off a bye week after beating 2 inferior teams in Colorado and Tarleton State. Neither of which were of any challenge to the Horned Frogs.

SMU comes in after a 34-27 loss to Maryland last Saturday following wins against North Texas and Lamar.

Both teams have solid offenses and are a bit lacking on defense. This rivalry is always played close (TCU leads all-time 51-42-7), and another close margin is expected between these teams in 2022.

TCU at SMU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 48 SMU 45

Money line

BET TCU -130.

TCU has the better team and Dykes has the offense rolling in Forth Worth. It will be close as this game always is. But I like the Horned Frogs to come out with a win.

Against the spread

I only “lean” slightly toward the road team here with TCU -2.5 (-105).

If you want to make a wager here, TCU is the way to go. If it stays under -3. But I would rather pay the extra juice and take the ML (-130) to be safe.

Over/Under

TAKE OVER 70.5 (-115).

This is an enormous number. But it is still not enough.

This game could easily be Over by half time, and it could hit triple digits by game’s end. This is by far my FAVORITE PLAY of this showdown.

SMU at Houston odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s SMU at Houston odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets in an AAC battle.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01fb7dafw2b08817yr player_id=none image=https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The SMU Mustangs (20-6, 11-3 AAC) visit the 15th-ranked Houston Cougars (23-4, 12-2) Sunday at the Fertitta Center in Houston. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at the SMU vs. Houston odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Mustangs head into this one a game back of the Cougars in the AAC standings. SMU has won four of the past five games, while also going 4-1 against the spread (ATS). That run includes an 85-83 home upset of Houston Feb. 9 as a 7.5-point underdog with the Over (134.5) cashing.

The Cougars followed that loss up with another 10-point setback (69-59), this time to Memphis Feb. 12. Houston had won 12 in a row before the SMU shocker. Since the back-to-back losses, Houston has rattled off three straight wins, going 2-1 ATS.

As a double-digit favorite, Houston is 9-8 ATS.

SMU at Houston odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Houston 77, SMU 72

Money line

Houston (-700) will cost seven times your potential return in this rematch. The Cougars are looking to exact a little revenge after the loss in Dallas two weeks ago. You can’t risk that much, especially on a team which just lost to this opponent.

If anything, SMU is the way to go lightly, but I’ll PASS and look to the spread.

Against the spread

SMU +10.5 (-107) is the way to go.

With first place in the conference on the line, a double-digit spread seems a bit too much. Both teams will be motivated and focused, and SMU’s players know they have what it takes to beat Houston.

This 10.5-point spread looks like an inflated line given the fact the Mustangs are one game back of the Cougars, and just beat them two weeks ago.

Over/Under

The OVER 137.5 (-107) is the play here. When these teams got together in Dallas Feb. 9, they totaled 168 combined points on an O/U line of 134.5. We likely won’t see that big of an offensive show, but Sunday’s line is super low, likely because SMU has cashed the Under in three consecutive games.

Take advantage. Cash on the OVER 137.5 (-107).

Tulsa at SMU odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Tulsa at SMU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In each team’s final game of the regular season, the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (5-6) take on SMU Mustangs (8-3) at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Tulsa vs. SMU odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

SMU is a talented side, but they’re crumbling, losing three of their last four after starting the season a perfect 7-0. UC, Memphis and Houston have all defeated SMU. However, Tulsa should be an easy challenge.

SMU thrives off their passing attack, throwing for over 305 yards per game, the 16th-best average in the NCAA. That said, they’re 6-5 against the spread and have a perfect 5-0 home record.

As for Tulsa, they’ve struggled but are also 6-5 against the spread. They’ve been able to keep games close with almost 200 rushing yards per game.

Sadly, they haven’t translated into victories. Tulsa has won two straight, and before that, lost to the No. 4-ranked UC Bearcats by just 8.

Tulsa at SMU odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

SMU 35, Tulsa 24

Money line

PASS on the money line.

While Tulsa has kept games close, they haven’t come out on top often. Likewise, SMU has 3 losses and aren’t good enough to hang a -230 money line wager on. The points are the way to find value here.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to SMU -6.5 (-108) as the better of the two sides. The Mustangs have been the stronger side, and that only improves when given home field advantage.

Also, SMU’s defensive strength plays to Tulsa’s offensive strength, which should bode well for the Mustangs. SMU limits the run, ranking 46th in the nation in opponents rushing yards per game.

They should be able to shut down Tulsa’s run game, which would help immensely. That said, all but one SMU victory has been by at least a touchdown.

Given that, Tulsa’s defense shouldn’t be able to stop SMU’s balanced offensive attack and the coupling of SMU’s defense to Tulsa’s offense. The Mustangs should manage a cover in this one.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 62.5 (-112) as the best value in this game.

SMU ranks 9th in points per game in the nation. However, they haven’t hit their 39 points per game average in three of their last four. Conference play has recently dampened their offensive prowess.

Tulsa is averaging just over 25 points per game with their strength in running the ball. Expecting to be playing from behind, passing may not result in them moving the chains often.

Also, Tulsa only has 7 turnovers on the season, so their combination of not turning the ball over and preferring the run should make for long drives. Combine that with SMU’s recent struggles, and I prefer the Under.

SMU at Cincinnati odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s SMU Mustangs at Cincinnati Bearcats odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The SMU Mustangs (8-2, 4-2 AAC) take on the Cincinnati Bearcats (10-0, 6-0) Saturday at Nippert Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the SMU at Cincinnati odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Still sitting outside the top four in the College Football Playoffs rankings at No. 5, the No. 3-ranked Bearcats need to make a statement.

They’ll need style points, and against a quality SMU side, they will be there for the taking. The Bearcats have had a few close calls lately, beating Tulsa by 8 and Navy by 7. However, they remain one of the few undefeated teams.

As for SMU, it started 7-0 before losing to Houston and Memphis for a short two-game losing streak. It bounced back with a win over UCF last week. It will enter as a heavy underdog vs. Cincy, hoping to shock the college football landscape if it can leave Ohio with a ninth win.

SMU at Cincinnati odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cincinnati 45, SMU 31

Money line

PASS. SMU was able to get as high as No. 19 in the rankings prior to taking on Houston and losing.

It is a solid opponent, and I wouldn’t think about laying -410 on Cincinnati, although it should be the better, safer side. The +310 for a road dog against a clearly superior side also seems like a bad risk.

Look to the points for value.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to CINCINNATI -11.5 (-115) as the Bearcats should flex their strength at home.

Cincinnati should know it needs to put in on SMU. Crazy enough, the Bearcats rank 56th in both passing and rushing. They can do it both ways.

Of 130 teams, SMU is allowing the 121st most passing yards per game. Cincinnati senior QB Desmond Ridder has thrown for 2,425 yards and a career-high 22 touchdowns. He should be able to thrash a weak SMU pass defense.

If Ridder can get going, Cincinnati should dominant. It already ranks 9th in points per game. I expect the team in need of a blowout to do just that despite recent struggles to dominant inferior competition.

Over/Under

BET OVER 64.5 (-117) as both teams have absolutely dynamite offensive attack.

While we didn’t mention SMU’s offense much, it actually ranks ahead of Cincinnati. It put up 55 points apiece in two of its last four games.

SMU has been wildly successful behind Oklahoma transfer QB Tanner Mordecai, who could be a 2022 NFL Draft pick. He’s proven it this season, throwing for over 3,264 yards and 37 touchdowns.

However, UC has arguably the best two cornerbacks in the AAC and arguably one of the best in college football with CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. They should make a difference, enough to slightly throw Mordecai off his game.

Nonetheless, behind Mordecai and Ridder, this game should be an absolute thriller.

First look: SMU at Cincinnati odds and lines

Previewing the SMU at Cincinnati Week 12 matchup, with college football odds, trends and head-to-head records.

The SMU Mustangs (8-2, 4-2 AAC) visit the No. 3 Cincinnati Bearcats (10-0, 6-0) for an American Athletic Conference crossover battle Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Nippert Stadium. Below, we look at the SMU vs. Cincinnati odds and lines; check back for our college football picks and predictions.

SMU stopped a two-game skid with a 55-28 win over Central Florida Saturday. The Mustangs rambled for 631 total yards, their most in a single game since Sept. 19, 2020. Two backs rushed for 90-plus yards, and QB Tanner Mordecai completed 68.5% of his passes, totaling 377 yards while throwing three touchdowns. SMU battled back from an early 14-7 deficit with 31 straight points across the first and second quarters.

The Bearcats downed South Florida 45-28 Friday. Behind 304 passing and 65 rushing yards by QB Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati rolled up 512 total yards of offense. That output marked the program’s highest in a road game since Sept. 28, 2019. Now the Bearcats are back at home where they haven’t lost a game since Nov. 10, 2017.

Southern Methodist and Cincinnati have met on the gridiron five times, all since 2013. Including a 42-13 win last year and two straight victories over the Mustangs, the Bearcats lead the all-time series 4-1.

UC rushed for 313 yards and controlled last year’s game wire-to-wire. Ridder ran for 179 yards and three scores, and the Bearcats defense held SMU to 290 total yards.

UCF at SMU odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UCF Knights at SMU Mustangs odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The UCF Knights (6-3, 4-2 AAC) visit the SMU Mustangs (7-2, 3-2) Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the UCF vs. SMU odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Knights struggled in a 14-10 win over Tulane at home last Saturday, not coming close to covering as 13.5-point favorites with the Under cashing. UCF has won three straight, and the defense has been a huge reason. The Knights allowed just 8.0 points per game across the past three outings.

The Mustangs were dropped 28-25 at Memphis last Saturday, falling out of the Top 25 rankings as a result. SMU has lost and failed to cover two in a row, also losing in Houston 44-37 Oct. 30.

UCF at SMU odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

SMU 32, UCF 29

Money line

SMU (-300) will cost you three times your potential return. That’s a little steep considering the Mustangs have dropped two in a row, and the Knights enter on a three-game win streak.

PASS and focus on the spread.

Against the spread

UCF +7.5 (-120) is just 3-6 ATS this season, but two of those covers are within the past three games. The offense has been a little inconsistent, but the defense is banging lately. That’s good news for the Knights, but their defense will have to continue the solid play as the Mustangs feature an offense that can score quickly.

If this game were at the Bounce House, I’d feel better about UCF. As it stands, the Knights should be a sound play catching seven and the hook in Dallas.

Over/Under

The lean is to the OVER 60.5 (-115) as I think SMU will still be able to move the ball despite UCF’s recent run of strong defense. But I’d play this really, really lightly.
