Former Georgia QB Jake Fromm signs with Bills — contract details here

Former Georgia football QB and 2020 NFL Draft pick Jake Fromm signed his rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills. Here are the details…

Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm signed his rookie deal on Friday with the Buffalo Bills.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, it’s a four-year contract worth $3.7 million total, $899,490 guaranteed with a $302,960 signing bonus.

A pedestrian combine performance reportedly caused Fromm to slip to the fifth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft where the Buffalo Bills felt fortunate to select him with the No. 167 overall pick.

General manager Brandon Beane said that drafting Fromm was not meant to send a message to Bills starter Josh Allen, but rather to fill a “premium position” with a talented player.

Fromm will have an opportunity to compete for the backup position this off-season with fellow Bills quarterbacks Davis Webb and Matt Barkley. And as Georgia fans know well, don’t count Fromm out in a quarterback competition. He has beaten out a couple of 5-stars before and won a few games in between…

 

First NFL game for each of Georgia’s 2020 rookies

The 2020 NFL schedule was released on Thursday, so we bring a look at each of Georgia football’s rookies first pro games.

Thursday, the NFL released the schedule for the 2020 football season, providing more optimism that football will be played in the fall.

What that will look like remains to be known, but for now, let’s take a second to look ahead to the games on the schedule which feature newly drafted, former Bulldogs.

Georgia had seven players drafted into the NFL this year. Opening week’s Monday Night Football features a double-header (Giants vs Steelers and Titans vs Broncos). That means we will be able to watch both of Georgia’s first round offensive tackles (Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wilson) on that first Monday night.

Here is a list of each of the draftee’s first NFL game.

New York Giants – OT Andrew Thomas (4th overall pick) and LB Tae Crowder (last pick, 255)

It was a rough, rough run for the MAC during 2020 NFL Draft weekend.

Ball State guard Danny Pinter stayed close to his college home getting selected by Indianapolis in the fifth round, and Miami University kicker Sam Sloman was selected by the LA Rams in the seventh round.

SEC dominating the NFL Draft again

The SEC is so dominant in recruiting, college football, and the 2020 NFL Draft. LSU and Alabama have been especially dominant.

The SEC is dominating the NFL Draft once again. In the 2020 version of the NFL Draft, Alabama and LSU are absolutely dominating.

The national champion LSU Tigers had the first overall pick in quarterback Joe Burrow. The Tigers didn’t stop there. In fact, they tied the record for most players (10) selected in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft. Alabama (9) has the second most picks in the first three rounds of any school and almost set the record itself.

The SEC is so dominant in recruiting, college football, and the NFL Draft. Year after year the conference produces the most draft picks, picks up the highest rated recruiting classes, and has won 10 of the last 14 national titles.

The Georgia Bulldogs had two first rounds picks in the NFL Draft. LSU leads the way with five first round selection. Overall, the SEC had 15 first round picks, one selection away from having half of the NFL Draft’s first round pick.

The SEC will continue its long streak of having the most players drafted out of any conference. There’s no sign of stopping the SEC.

NFL Draft 2020: SEC

It’s borderline obnoxious, but hardly unexpected.

As much as fans of other college football conferences might want to argue and complain, yeah, the SEC is usually just better.

And why? This isn’t hard. The league has better players than everyone else.

The SEC has owned the recruiting rankings by 85 miles ever since the beginning of the internet, and it comes across year after year in the NFL Draft.

Last year, nine SEC players were selected in the first round. Granted it was still 28% of the first 32 picks, but it was still a tad light for the league that handed over ten of its finest players in the 2018 first round, and 12 in 2017.

But is it even possible to for a conference to own half of a first round by accounting for 16 picks?

11 SEC players were selected in 2014 first round, 12 got the call in 2013, and let’s just cheat a little bit and give a little boost to the league in 2011, considering Missouri and Texas A&M were making the move from the Big 12 to the SEC. With the newcomers added, the current SEC programs accounted for the first seven picks of the 2011 NFL Draft and 13 of the first 32.

It took a big bend of the criteria and the SEC still wasn’t even close to getting up to 16 first round picks.

By the way, the BetMGM line for total SEC players drafted in the first round is set at a ridiculous 15.5.

Is it even possible? Helped by Alabama and LSU, yeah.

LSU QB Joe Burrow, Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, Bama receivers Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs, fellow Tide star OT Jedrick Wills, Auburn DT Derrick Brown, Florida CB CJ Henderson, Georgia OT Andrew Thomas, LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson. That gets you to nine.

South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw will go in the first round, as will LSU LB Patrick Queen. That’s 11, and a long, long, long way to go to get to 16 and the over.

There are others like LSU WR Justin Jefferson and Alabama S Xavier McKinney, who both have a shot of going in the top 32. There’s a chance RB D’Andre Swift and OT Isaiah Wilson from Georgia are both going early, and DE Terrell Lewis and CB Trevon Diggs from Alabama also could get the Day One call.

It’s not entirely insane to make a call that more than half of your 2020 NFL Draft first round will be made up of SEC players.

Let’s try this a different way.

How Many SEC Players Will Be Drafted In the First Round?

How many players outside of the SEC are guaranteed to go in the first round?

Rapid-fire – Chase Young, Jeff Okudah, Isaiah Simmons, Justin Herbert, Tristan Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, CeeDee Lamb, Kenneth Murray, Jordan Love, AJ Terrell. That’s ten, and then it’s all hit-or-miss from a pool of around 15 players who could slide into the top 32.

But SEC players are in that same bucket of first round tweeners.

How crazy do you want to get? Is this really going to be one of the most historic drafts ever in a chest-puffing moment for the It Just Means More league?

Yeah. There are more than enough SEC players to get to 16, and that’s where the value is – minimal as it is.

SEC dominating the NFL Combine once again

The Georgia Bulldogs alone had more NFL Combine invites than the entire Sun Belt conference.

The SEC is the king conference of NCAA football and in the NFL. No other conference has more players go to the NFL. That’s set to happen once again in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The disparity between the SEC and other conferences is concerning. The SEC has more than triple the amount of NFL Combine participants when compared to the Big 12:

Yes, the SEC has four more teams than the Big 12, it has 64 more NFL combine participants. In fact, the SEC has one less participant than the next two conferences combine (Big Ten and Pac-12).

The SEC has dominated college football the past couple of decades and has no sign of slowing down. The SEC recruits the best of any conference and converts this talent into NFL prospects as good as other conferences.

Look for the SEC to dominate the 2020 NFL Draft once again. The Georgia Bulldogs alone had more NFL Combine invites than the entire Sun Belt conference.
