Georgia football defeated the LSU Tigers to win the 2022 SEC championship game

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the LSU Tigers to win the 2022 SEC championship game. Georgia used a near-perfect first half to topple the Tigers.

The Bulldogs began the game with a 35-10 first half. Geogia had some luck on its side. Georgia defensive back Christopher Smith returned a blocked kick for a touchdown and linebacker Smael Mondon had a freak interception. Smith later had an interception in the second half.

Georgia’s performance was not perfect. The Bulldogs gave up a season-high 30 points and 502 passing yards to the LSU Tigers. Additionally, right tackle Warren McClendon and wide receiver Ladd McConkey both left Georgia’s 50-30 win over LSU with knee injuries.

Let’s take a look at the top photos from Georgia football’s SEC championship game win!

Georgia returns blocked field goal for TD as LSU falls asleep

A blocked field goal by Georgia turned embarrassing for LSU

Play until the whistle, they say.

Georgia abides by the adage. Meanwhile, LSU forgot it and it cost the Tigers in Saturday’s SEC Championship Game.

The Bulldogs’ Nazir Stackhouse blocked an LSU field-goal attempt in the first quarter.

While some Georgia players celebrated and got ready to head to the sidelines, the entire LSU special-teams unit packed it in.

Christopher Smith of Georgia realized it was a live ball and lulled everyone to sleep before picking it up and returning the football 95 yards for a score.

It was the start of the first-half avalanche of points as Georgia led the 3-loss Tigers, 35-10 at the break.

Twitter reacts to yet another LSU special teams blunder, this one perhaps the worst

LSU’s special teams strike again and nobody in South Bend is surprised yet again.

If you’ve been paying attention to LSU football at all this season, you’ve noticed a great many positives in their turnaround. A year after chasing Ed Orgeron from the post, [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has the Tigers playing in the SEC championship game after winning the SEC West. He’s done a ton well and right in 2022.

One of those things, however, is not special teams, which have been a disaster for the Tigers all year. If you paid attention to Notre Dame football from 2010-2021, you’re not surprised. Headed by Kelly with special teams being led Brian Polian for the majority of those years, the philosophy surrounding special teams was essentially “don’t it mess up.”

Well, shocking to nobody, LSU has had poorly performing special teams units all year. They saved their best, or worst, for the SEC championship game, however. Check it out below and then see some of the reactions to an all-time blunder by the Tigers.

Georgia’s Smael Mondon Jr. makes interception off triple deflection of LSU pass

Georgia wound up with an interception on a circus play of an LSU pass

Keep your eye on the football never was more appropriate than in the SEC Championship on Saturday between LSU and Georgia.

The ball was deflected, not once, twice but three times before the Bulldogs came away with an interception.

The pass deflected off Jock Bech, then hit off the wideout’s helmet before Javon Bullard got his hands on it … temporarily.

It wound up in the arms of Smael Mondon, Jr., who finally corraled it and the Dawgs has a pick.

5 LSU players to watch against Georgia in the SEC championship

Who are five LSU players that Georgia fans need to watch in the SEC championship?

The LSU Tigers will need their best players to step up in order to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2022 SEC championship game. LSU enters the game coming off a loss to Texas A&M.

The Tigers will be highly motivated to win a SEC championship in Brian Kelly’s first season at the helm. LSU has recruited well despite a couple of down years since winning the national championship in 2019. This edition of the Tigers is a very talented bunch that defeated Alabama.

BREAKING: LSU clinches SEC West following Ole Miss loss

With some help from Alabama, LSU has clinched the SEC West.

LSU is headed to Atlanta.

The SEC championship is still a few weeks away, but the SEC West has been sealed following a day that saw LSU win and Ole Miss lose. LSU’s win earlier in the day eliminated Alabama, but a Rebel win would have kept Ole Miss alive.

LSU got the help it needed from Nick Saban and the Tide, who won on the road in Oxford 30-24 to close out the division race.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Tigers, but [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has LSU contending in his first year on the job. He joins Les Miles and Gus Malzahn as coaches who also won the west in Year 1.

At 8-2, LSU’s playoff hopes are alive. The Tigers would be the first two-loss team to appear in the playoff, but a two-loss SEC champion will have a good shot.

LSU’s most recent SEC championship appearance came in 2019. [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] led LSU to a win over Georgia on their way to a national title.

LSU will likely face Georgia again this year. It would be the fifth time the two programs have met in the SEC title game. Only Alabama and Florida have faced off more.

LSU is set to host UAB next week before ending the regular season at Texas A&M.

Ranking the most painful Georgia losses of the last 10 years

Ranking the most painful Georgia losses of the last ten years. This one will be hard to read.

Oh boy, this one’s going to be tough to read. It’s been 40 years of suffering for Georgia fans, but the last ten years in particular have been filled with heartbreak and gut-wrenching defeats.

And 90% of the time, Alabama’s to blame for that pain.

Here’s a very sad trip down memory of the lane of the five most painful Georgia losses over the last ten years.

Kirby Smart deserves credit for UGA football making CFP

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has heavily criticized following UGA’s 41-24 SEC Championship loss to Nick Saban and Alabama.

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has been heavily criticized following UGA’s 41-24 SEC Championship loss to Nick Saban and Alabama.

Smart and Georgia were outclassed in the SEC Championship thanks to Alabama’s numerous big plays. Georgia made mistakes. Bryce Young and Alabama played arguably their best game of the season.

Georgia’s first loss of the season was disappointing, but Kirby Smart and Georgia are in a position to make the College Football Playoff. The Dawgs had their chance to possibly knock Alabama out of the CFP, but that will have to wait.

For now, Georgia fans should be happy that Kirby Smart was able to successfully navigate the Dawgs’ schedule and finish the regular season 12-0. In the past, has Georgia entered the SEC Championship with one loss? The Bulldogs could not afford to lose in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Georgia’s SEC Championship defeat will give the Dawgs a tougher path to the National Championship, but it is much better than not making the CFP.

Georgia’s loss will help refocus the Bulldogs. Georgia could face Alabama again. Will Kirby Smart make a change at starting quarterback?

He will have to find a way to generate more pressure on Bryce Young if the Bulldogs play the Crimson Tide again. Georgia has three weeks to improve ahead of the CFP semifinals. The Dawgs still have a lot of football left to be played.

Let’s just be thankful that UGA has another game with National Championship implications. That was not the case in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

WATCH: Nick Saban delivers another hilarious ‘rat poison’ zinger

Nick Saban delivers another hilarious ‘rat poison’ zinger!

After Alabama’s 41-24 win over Georgia, head football coach Nick Saban was obviously pleased in the SEC Championship postgame press conference.

Nick Saban has famously coined the phrase “rat poison” when discussing the media’s role in the game.

In his postgame press conference, coach Saban delivered another zinger on the famous phrase.

To say that coach Saban and the Alabama team didn’t enjoy playing the role of the underdog is an understatement.

Unfortunately for the Tide, I don’t think they will be playing the underdog role again for a very long time.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for all the latest on the Crimson Tide!
