St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

In a rematch of a 2020 NL Wild Card series, the St. Louis Cardinals (23-15) and San Diego Padres (21-17) open a three-game set Friday at Petco Park. First pitch is slated for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

During a mid-week series in which the Padres took 2 of 3 at the Colorado Rockies, San Diego lost 5 position players due to COVID-19 issues. Star SS Fernando Tatis Jr. and RF Wil Myers tested positive and were placed on the injured list, while 1B Eric Hosmer and utility players Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo also landed on the IL due to contact-tracing protocols.

None of the five are expected to play in this first regular-season meeting between the two NL contenders. The Padres won last year’s best-of-3 Wild Card Series by winning the final two games after dropping the opener.

The Padres had the day off Thursday, while the Cardinals shut out the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 to take 2 of 3 to start their current 6-game road trip.

RHP Johan Oviedo is Friday’s projected starter for St. Louis. The Cuban native is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA (13 2/3 IP, 7 ER), 1.02 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in 2 starts and 1 relief appearance. Oviedo pitched Sunday for Class AAA Memphis and yielded 4 ER over 2 2/3 IP. This will be the first time he faces the Padres in his young career.

  • Last MLB outing: Loss, 4 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 K in the Cardinals’ 7-2 home loss to the New York Mets May 5.
  • 2021 as starter: 0-1, 7.00 ERA (9 IP, 7 ER), 8 H, 2 BB, 9 K in 2 outings.

RHP Joe Musgrove is expected to start for the Friars. He is 2-4 with a 3.00 ERA (39 IP, 13 ER), 0.85 WHIP, 12.5 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 in 7 starts.

  • Last outing: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 7 K in the Padres’ 7-1 defeat at the San Francisco Giants Saturday.
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 1-7, 5.92 ERA (48 2/3 IP, 32 ER), 1.38 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 9 starts.

Cardinals at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cardinals +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Padres -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals +1.5 (-145) | Padres -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Padres 4

Money line (ML)

ST. LOUIS (+150), which has won 5 of its last 6 games, is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Granted, the Cardinals will be throwing an inexperienced starting pitcher, but the value is there since the Padres are without Tatis, Myers and Hosmer.

Plus, since Musgrove tossed the Padres’ first no-hitter in franchise history – in his second start of the season April 9 to improve to 2-0 – he is 0-4 with a 4.88 ERA (24 IP, 13 ER) in 5 starts.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. The Cardinals have the majors’ second-best ATS record, but I have no interest in laying the -145 juice on St. Louis +1.5.

The alternate line of -1.5 (+260) is tempting but AVOID with Oviedo getting the start.

ATS records: Cardinals 24-14 | Padres 20-18

Over/Under (O/U)

Back OVER 7 (-105) to win a QUARTER UNIT because neither starting pitcher is worthy of an Under play. PASS if the line climbs above 7.

O/U records: Cardinals 16-18-3 | Padres 16-22

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and prediction – Postponed

Analyzing Monday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

Monday night’s San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies game has been postponed due to inclement weather. It will be rescheduled as a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday, May 12, beginning at 12:10 pm PT/1:10 pm MT.

The San Diego Padres (19-16) start a three-game series Monday with NL West rival Colorado Rockies (12-22) at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies with MLB picks and predictions.

This will be the first regular-season meeting between these two clubs, but the Padres won last season’s series against the Rockies, 7-3, and outscored them by a combined 27 runs in those 10 games.

RHP Dinelson Lamet is the projected starter for the Padres. Lamet is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (4 IP, 0 ER), 1.50 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 across 2 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 2 IP with 0 ER, 4 H, 0 BB and 0 K in San Diego’s 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • Career vs. the Giants: 1-1 with a 2.66 ERA (20 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 1.18 WHIP and 12.0 K/9 over 4 starts, all at Oracle Park.
  • Vs. Giants on the current roster: 54 at-bats with a .204/.259/.333 slash line, 1 HR and 5 RBIs.

RHP Antonio Senzatela gets the start for the Rockies. Senzatela is 1-3 with a 5.76 ERA (29 2/3 IP, 19 ER), 1.55 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 5.5 K/9 across 6 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 4 2/3 IP, 3 ER 9 H, 1 BB and 3 K in Colorado’s 5-3 loss at the Arizona Diamondbacks April 29.
  • Career vs. the Padres: 7-2 with a 3.08 ERA (64 1/3 IP, 22 ER), 1.20 WHIP and 2.5 K/9 over 9 starts and 6 relief appearances.
  • Vs. Padres on the current roster: 104 at-bats with a .317/.387/.519 slash line, 18/11 K/BB rate, 2 HR and 11 RBIs.

Padres at Rockies odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Rockies +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (-115) | Rockies +1.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 10 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Padres 9, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

PASS even though Lamet is a starter I’m much higher on than Senzatela because the Padres (-175) is too expensive given Lamet has only gone two innings in each of his starts.

Don’t get me wrong, San Diego’s bullpen is legit, but -175 is a number I’m more willing to lay with an ace on the mound and Lamet is still working back from injury.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Senzatela isn’t striking out a lot of batters (Statcast grades Senzatela in the 7-percentile of K%) and gives up a ton of contact (fifth in whiff%) while San Diego’s lineup doesn’t strikeout very much (fourth-lowest K%).

The Padres’ bats are bottom-10 in several advanced hitting metrics such as wRC+, wOBA and OPS,  but there are signs of progression forthcoming.

For instance, San Diego’s lineup is 24th in BAbip, which is a luck-based factor that somewhat explains the other poor numbers, but the Padres are sixth in hard-hit rate so they are making good contact.

Perhaps San Diego’s lineup doesn’t transform overnight but, at this price, I’m BETTING the PADRES -1.5 (-115) for 1 unit rake against the Rockies.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS because San Diego’s lineup still needs to prove it if I’m going to be betting an Over on a double-digit total and Colorado’s lineup is one of the worst in the Majors.

The Padres’ 11 runs scored in yesterday’s win over the San Francisco Giants was only two runs fewer than the previous six games combined and the Rockies have been shutout in two of their past three games.

Lastly, these teams have a combined 2-6 O/U record this season when these starters are on the mound. Senzatela, in particular, generally garners a lot of Over money when he makes a start but those Over bets aren’t cashing thus far.

San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (18-15) and San Francisco Giants (19-13) play the second of a three-game set Saturday at Oracle Park with a 4:05 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Giants odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Joe Musgrove is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 2-3 with a 2.38 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, 12.4 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 over 34 IP through 6 starts.

In his most recent start, Musgrove allowed six runs (five earned) and four hits with two walks and six strikeouts across five innings in a loss against the Giants at Petco Park on Sunday.

RHP Kevin Gausman is the projected starting pitcher for the Giants. He is 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 over 39 2/3 IP through 6 starts.

Gausman outdueled Musgrove in that outing on Sunday, allowing just one run, six hits and a walk with six strikeouts over six innings in a victory in San Diego. He also allowed just one run, five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision at Petco April 7.

Padres at Giants odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -145 (bet $145 to win $100) | Giants +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (+120) | Giants +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 7 (Over -115 | Under -105)

Prediction

Giants 3, Padres 2

Money line (ML)

The GIANTS (+120) are a solid value in their home park. Gausman has been very hard on the Padres (-145) to date, going 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and .224 opponent batting average with 11 strikeouts over 13 innings and just one homer allowed. There is no reason to bet against he or the Giants, especially after he topped the Padres last time out at their place.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The GIANTS +1.5 (-145) aren’t terribly expensive if you’d like a little insurance and do not trust them straight up. And four of their past eight games have been one-run losses.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 7 (-105) is the play in San Francisco. While the Giants have been on an Over run lately, and the Under was 7-5-2 in the first 14 home dates for San Francisco.

San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (18-14) head up to the Bay Area to begin a three-game set with the NL West rival San Francisco Giants (18-13) Friday at Oracle Park. First pitch is set for 9:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Giants odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego won the rubber match against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday and defeated San Francisco 2-1 in a three-game series last weekend.

The Giants dropped back-to-back games at the Colorado Rockies to lose their previous series and are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Season series: Tied 3-3.

LHP Blake Snell is the projected starter for the Padres. He is 1-0 with a 3.51 ERA (25 2/3 IP, 10 ER), 1.48 WHIP, 5.3 BB/9 and 13.0 K/9 across 6 starts.

  • Last outing: Win in 5 IP with 1 ER, 5 H, 3 BB and 6 K against the Giants Saturday.
  • Career vs. Giants: 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA (10 IP, 3 ER), 1.40 WHIP and 12.6 K/9 across 2 starts, both in 2021.
    • vs. Giants on the current roster: 43 at-bats with a .302/.400/.535 slash line and 2 HR.

RHP Anthony DeSclafani gets the start for the Giants. He is 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA (36 IP, 8 ER), 0.94 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 over 6 starts.

  • Last outing: Loss in 6 IP with 3 ER, 3 H, 2 BB and 3 K at the Padres Saturday.
  • Career vs. Padres: 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA (35 IP, 10 ER), 0.97 WHIP and 6.9 K/9 in 6 starts.

Padres at Giants odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -150 (bet $150 to win $100) | Giants +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (+115) | Giants +1.5 (-140)
  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Padres 5, Giants 2

Money line (ML)

BET the PADRES (-150) for three-fourths of a unit because we want to save a little bit for San Diego’s run line.

The Padres have owned the Giants over the past two seasons. They won 13 of the last 18 meetings head-to-head meetings and six of their past eight games in San Francisco.

Also, DeSclafani hasn’t been nearly as sharp as his basic pitching numbers suggest. He has pitched 15-scoreless innings in two starts against a bad Colorado Rockies lineup—neither of which were at  Coors Field.

Furthermore, DeSclafani is in the 23rd percentile of hard-hit rate, 15th percentile in exit velocity and 44th percentile in K%, according to Statcast.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Not only do the PADRES -1.5 (+115) have an edge in the starting pitching department, but advanced pitching analytics indicate San Diego’s bullpen is a top-3 unit.

Padres relievers are second in both SIERA and K-BB%, first in xFIP and third in left-on-base percentage so I’m confident San Diego’s ‘pen can hold a lead.

On the other side, San Francisco’s bullpen has struggled through the first five weeks of the season. Giants’ relievers are a bottom-10 unit in home runs per nine, SIERA and xFIP.

If it’s either or definitely stick with San Diego’s money line, but I’m sprinkling a little change on the PADRES -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS because San Diego’s lineup hasn’t gotten going yet and San Francisco has several hitters either out of the lineup or with questionable game statuses.

Pittsburgh Pirates at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (13-16) and San Diego Padres (17-14) play the finale of a three-game set Wednesday at Petco Park with an 8:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Pirates vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP JT Brubaker is the projected starting pitcher for the Pirates. He is 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 9.9 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 over 27 1/3 IP through 5 starts.

Brubaker allowed 3 or fewer runs in each of his 5 outings. Statistically, he had his worst outing of the season last time out Friday, allowing season highs of 3 earned runs and 7 hits in just 5 innings for his shortest outing since April 5.

RHP Yu Darvish is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 11.6 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 over 38 IP through 6 starts.

Darvish turned in a quality start in each of his past 5 outings, and he struck out a season-high 12 batters last time out in 6 1/3 innings against the San Francisco Giants. He also allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts over 7 innings in a victory in Pittsburgh April 12.

MLB betting offers/promotions

BetMGM Sportsbook offers available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV. New customer offers, terms and conditions apply.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Pirates +1.5 (-110) | Padres -1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (Over -115 | Under -105)

Prediction

Padres 4, Pirates 1

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-250) will cost you two and a half times your potential return, and that’s risky business considering they have had difficulty scoring runs lately.

PASS.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The PADRES -1.5 (-110) are worth a small-unit play, as they have one of their best pitchers on the bump.

Darvish has allowed just 5 earned runs across his last 33 1/3 innings spanning 5 starts. It won’t take much offense for the Padres to cover the run line here, and that’s good since they have managed just 4 runs in their last three games.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6.5 (-105) is the lean, although it’s a very, very low number.

San Diego isn’t producing much with the bats, and Darvish won’t yield much, either. The Padres should win this series finale in a low-scoring game.

Pittsburgh Pirates at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (12-15) and San Diego Padres (16-13) open a three-game series at Petco Park Monday. First pitch is slated for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Pirates vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: 2-2 after – they split a 4-game set in Pittsburgh April 12-15.

The Pirates enter on a 4-game skid after getting shut out 3-0 by the visiting St. Louis Cardinals Sunday. The Padres lost at home to the San Francisco Giants 7-1 Sunday, snapping a 3-game win streak.

LHP Tyler Anderson is the Pirates’ projected starter. He is 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA (26 2/3 IP, 10 ER), 1.24 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 through 5 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K vs. Kansas City Royals Tuesday – Pirates won 2-1
  • 2021 vs. Padres: Win, 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K in 5-1 home victory April 14
  • Career vs. Padres: 4-2, 2.53 ERA (57 IP, 16 ER), 1.21 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 9 starts and 1 relief appearance

RHP Miguel Diaz is expected to start for the Padres in his first MLB appearance since 2019. It would have been RHP Chris Paddack‘s turn to start, but he was placed on the injured list Friday with what the team called a “medical condition.” Diaz, who broke into the bigs in 2017, has never faced the Pirates.

  • Diaz in 2019: 0-0, 7.11 ERA (6 1/3 IP, 5 ER), 9 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 5 relief outings
  • Diaz career: 2-1, 6.62 ERA (66 2/3 IP, 49 ER), 1.61 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 47 games, including 3 starts
  • Career as a starter: 0-0, 4.70 ERA (7 2/3 IP, 4 ER), 7 H, 5 BB, 7 K

MLB betting offers/promotions

Pirates at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pirates +160 (bet $100 to win $160) | Padres -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pirates +1.5 (-125) | Padres -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Pirates 4, Padres 3

Money line (ML)

The PIRATES (+160) are the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager.

The Pirates offer decent value with Anderson on the mound vs. Diaz, who is making his first MLB appearance in two years. The Bucs were +176 underdogs when Anderson beat the Padres in Pittsburgh April 14.

The +160 ML price is just too good to pass up.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. I don’t want to risk the chance of losing 2 bets – Pirates ML and Pirates ATS – if the Padres win by 2 or more runs.

ATS records: Pirates 12-15 | Padres 15-14

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 9 (-115) is the play. The Under is 5-0 in Anderson’s starts this season, including his 5-1 victory against the Padres.

While the thought of Diaz starting for the Friars might be worrisome, their bullpen’s 2.95 ERA ranks first in the NL and fifth in the majors.

Pittsburgh’s relievers are pretty good too, owning a 3.65 ERA to rank third in the Senior Circuit.

Scoring-wise, both clubs are in the bottom third of the majors. San Diego averages 4.0 runs per game and Pittsburgh averages 3.78 runs per game.

Another supporting factor for the Under: In the 16 games at Petco Park this season, the Padres averaged 3.19 runs and allowed 3.625 runs per game.

O/U records: Pirates 13-12-2 | Padres 12-17

Analyzing Sunday’s San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (16-11) and San Diego Padres (16-12) play the finale of a three-game set Sunday at Petco Park with a 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Kevin Gausman is the projected starting pitcher for the Giants. He is 1-0 with a 2.14 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 33 2/3 IP through five starts.

Gausman allowed just 1 earned run on 2 hits and 1 walk with 11 strikeouts over a season-high 8 innings last Saturday in a no-decision against the Miami Marlins. He also allowed just 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk through 7 innings in a no-decision April 7 in San Diego.

RHP Joe Musgrove is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 2-2 with a 1.24 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, 12.7 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 over 29 IP spanning 5 starts.

Musgrove allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 2 walks over 3 innings of a no-decision last time out at Dodger Stadium last Sunday.

Giants at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 3:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Off the board (OTB)
  • Against the spread/ATS: OTB
  • Over/Under: OTB

Prediction

Padres 6, Giants 3

Money line (ML)

While the odds were off the board at the time of publishing, the Padres are looking to complete the sweep, and they’re a good bet to do so.

San Diego has rattled off three consecutive wins, with an average of 7.0 runs per game while allowing just 2.33 runs per outing. The Giants offense dried up in the first two contests of this series.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Padres are worth a small-unit play to win by 2-plus runs with Musgrove on the bump.

The Giants lost three of their last four games, and three of their last four losses were by 2 or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over will be the lean, as it is 4-1 in San Francisco’s past five outings and 2-2-1 in Gausman’s five starts to date.

The Over is 6-2 across the past eight games for San Diego, too. While the Under is 4-1 in Musgrove’s five starts overall, the Over hit in his most recent showing.

San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (16-10) clash with the San Diego Padres (15-12) Saturday in Game 2 of their three-game series at Petco Park. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

The Padres overcame the Giants in a 3-2 win Friday, as RHP Yu Darvish pitched a 6 1/3-inning, 12-strikeout and 1-ER gem.

Season series: Tied 2-2.

RHP Anthony DeSclafani makes his sixth start for the Giants Saturday. He is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA (30 IP, 5 ER), 0.97 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9.

  • Last outing: Complete-game shutout win with 3 H, 1 BB, and 9 K in the Giants’ 12-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies Monday.
  • Career vs. the Padres: 1-0 with a 2.17 ERA (29 IP, 7 ER), 1.00 WHIP and 7.4 K/9 in 5 starts.
  • DeSclafani pitched to a no-decision at San Diego April 5, throwing 5 IP with 1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB and 4 K in San Francisco’s 3-2 win.
    • Career at Petco Park: 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA (17 IP, 3 ER), 0.94 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 in 3 starts.

LHP Blake Snell takes the mound for the Padres. He is 0-0 with a 3.92 ERA (20 2/3 IP, 9 ER), 1.45 WHIP, 5.2 BB/9 and 13.5 K/9 over 5 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 5 1/3 IP with 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB and 7 K in San Diego’s 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last Saturday.
  • Career vs. Giants: 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA (5 IP, 2 ER), 1.20 WHIP and 14.4 K/9 in 1 start (April 7, 2021).

Giants at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Giants +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Padres -185 (bet $185 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Giants +1.5 (-135) | Padres -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Prediction

Padres 5, Giants 1

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Padres (-185) because I’m confident enough in Snell to entertain putting San Diego’s money line in a parlay with a similarly priced favorite for a plus-money payout.

For a straight-up Padres victory, however, the money line bet is a no-go.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

May has been DeSclafani’s least effective month throughout his career. He has a 5.47 ERA and 1.52 WHIP—both the highest of any month—and his 7.0 K/9 is his lowest of any month.

Additionally, DeSclafani is getting the start on four days of rest and his numbers on a four-day rest stack up similarly to his May production. His ERA and WHIP are higher than when he gets five or six-plus days off and his winning percentage is the lowest of the rest splits.

Furthermore, Snell had a so-so outing in his first career start against the Giants in early April, but San Francisco’s lineup will be easier for Snell to navigate this time around. The Giants are without their second and third hitters in RF Mike Yastrzemski and 2B Donovan Solano.

BET PADRES -1.5 (+110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Even though I’m anticipating/betting on DeSclafani’s regression back to his usual form as the season moves along, he did have a strong outing against the Padres earlier this season and has always pitched well in Petco Park.

Also, the Under is 5-0-1 in the last six Giants-Padres meetings and 13-3 in San Diego’s last 16 home games.

Slight “LEAN” to the UNDER 7.5 (-120) for a quarter unit if at all because I prefer the Padres’ side more than the total.

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (13-12) and Arizona Diamondbacks (12-11) square off in the second game of a three-game series Wednesday at 9:40 p.m. ET at Chase Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Diamondbacks odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Ryan Weathers is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. In five appearances this season (two starts) he is 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA, 0.59 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 15 1/3 IP.

Weathers hurled three scoreless innings against Arizona with only one hit given up earlier this month in his big league debut.

Both of his starts came against a potent Dodger offense, and he totaled 9 1/3 IP with two hits allowed, 0 ER, and nine strikeouts while reaching 89 pitches last time out.

RHP Taylor Widener is set to make his fifth start of the season for Arizona. In his first four outings, he has gone 1-0 with a 2.82 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 22 1/3 IP.

Widener struck out seven batters in his last start, which was against the Reds but also served up three homers.

Overall, his surface stats haven’t been supported by his skills, and he has succeeded in large part due to a .234 BABIP and 88.2% left on-base percentage.

Padres at Diamondbacks odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:17 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Diamondbacks +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (-110) | Diamondbacks +1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Padres 7, Diamondbacks 4

Money line (ML)

Arizona has been on a roll lately, winning seven of their last eight games and averaging 6.6 runs per game during that span.

But, the Padres can score some runs, too, and the early season success for Weathers looks far more legit than that of Widener.

Backing the PADRES (-175) is the play here.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Padres have won 13 games this season, and 10 have been decided by more than one run, including six of their eight road victories.

A big day against Widener would not be surprising, and even if it’s tied late, the road team has a chance to put up a big inning.

Look for the PADRES -1.5 (-110) to win this contest by more than one run.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Diamondback offense is hot, and the Padres are facing a pitcher due for some major regression. The Over is 7-2 in Arizona’s last nine home games, and OVER 9 (-115) should hit in this contest.

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (13-11) and Arizona Diamondbacks (11-11) play the opener of a two-game set Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET at Chase Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Chris Paddack is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 8.5 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 over 18 IP through four starts. Paddack opened his season allowing three runs – two earned – and three walks in four innings in a 3-1 home loss against the Diamondbacks April 4.

RHP Merrill Kelly is the projected starting pitcher for the Diamondbacks. He is 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 5.6 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 through 21 IP across four starts. Kelly coughed up three earned runs on five hits and three walks in a season-low four innings of a 4-2 loss at San Diego April 2 in his first outing of 2021. This will be his first start of the season at home.

Padres at Diamondbacks odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -155 (bet $155 to win $100) | Diamondbacks +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (+100) | Diamondbacks +1.5 (-120)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Padres 6, Diamondbacks 3

Money line (ML)

The PADRES (-155) are worth a look against the Diamondbacks, and it’s all about the pitching matchup. Paddack won’t be confused with former San Diego starters Dave Dravecky, Eric Show or Ed Whitson, as he has gotten off to a very slow start. But he has been nowhere near as poor as Merrill, who is yielding nearly eight earned runs per nine innings.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The PADRES -1.5 (+100) are rested and raring to go after a scintillating 8-7 win at the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday night. They covered the run line in all four games against the Dodgers, including three outright victories as underdogs. They also cashed the run line in their most recent two victories against the Snakes April 2-3.

Over/Under (O/U)

O/U 9 is going to be too close to call. I don’t trust either pitcher to hold the offenses in check, but at the same time, I don’t really trust the offenses, either.

If I had a lean, it would be to the Over, as the Padres are 3-0 O/U, averaging 6.0 runs per game, in the previous three against the Dodgers. But I think I’ll PASS here.
