Eagles vs. Buccaneers: 3 ways Tampa Bay has improved since Week 3 matchup

We’re looking at three ways the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have improved since their Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles

On September 25, 2023, the Philadelphia defense shut down Baker Mayfield and the Tampa offense, while the road team had a 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver on a night when Jalen Hurts and the offense left points on the board.

Rookie defensive tackle and No. 9 overall pick Jalen Carter was dominant in limited pass rush opportunities, while the Eagles secondary adjusted without Avonte Maddox in the slot, moving James Bradberry and Sydney Brown around the field.

In that matchup, Tampa finished with 174 total yards and was 5-10 on third downs.

Fast forward four months later, and the two teams will meet for a second time this season after the Buccaneers won the NFC South, securing the fourth seed.

Both teams are vastly different since that matchup, and we’re looking at three ways that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have improved since the last meaningful contest.

Two changes to Bucs injury report ahead of Week 15

The Bucs got some good news and some bad news ahead of their matchup against the Packers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers shuffled around their injury report on Saturday ahead of their Week 15 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

The team first announced some bad news on Saturday — safety Ryan Neal was downgraded from doubtful to out, and he won’t be traveling with the team. As a result, safeties Kaevon Merriweather and Dee Delaney will get some playing time. Neal was injured during the team’s game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14.

On the flip side, the team delivered some better news when defensive lineman Vita Vea was upgraded from doubtful to questionable. This isn’t a guarantee that Vea will play, as he was ruled questionable before the team played the Falcons in Week 15 but was subsequently ruled inactive, but Vea’s presence would be a huge help against the Packers in a game that would go a long way in helping Tampa Bay secure a playoff spot.

With the new designations, the Bucs now have three players out — Neal, cornerback Carlton Davis and DL Will Gholston. Five players are now questionable with Vea’s upgrade — Vea, linebacker Devin White, longsnapper Zach Triner, cornerback Jamel Dean and wideout Chris Godwin.

BREAKING: Bucs safety Ryan Neal out for rest of game in Week 14

The Bucs will be without a starting defensive player for the rest of their Week 14 game against the Falcons.

A starting player on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense will not be returning against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14.

Bucs safety Ryan Neal was ruled out after an injury to his hip and his back in the first half of Tampa Bay’s game on Sunday. The Bucs will have both safety/cornerback Dee Delaney and safety Kaevon Merriweather available to take his place.

At the time Neal was ruled out, the Bucs had a 12-10 lead in the third quarter.

Bucs inactives list for Week 11 at 49ers

Bucs edge rusher Markees Watts could get some more playing time against the 49ers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers remain mostly healthy heading into their game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Safety Ryan Neal was declared out with a thumb injury, so him being inactive is no surprise. Guard Matt Feiler was questionable heading into the matchup, but it seems like he’s set to be inactive as well, so Aaron Stinnie will once again get the start there. One interesting thing to note is that edge rusher Cam Gill is inactive, meaning that rookie Markees Watts will get some more playing time on Sunday against the 49ers.

Here is Tampa Bay’s inactives list:

  • #11 QB John Wolford (3QB)
  • #21 RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn
  • #23 S Ryan Neal
  • #49 OLB Cam Gill
  • #71 OL Matt Feiler
  • #89 TE David Wells

Final Week 11 Injury Report: Only one player ruled out for Sunday

The Bucs are very healthy heading into San Francisco — something they weren’t last year when they played the 49ers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be a whole lot healthier than they were the last time they faced off against the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.

Only one player is confirmed to be out — that’s safety Ryan Neal, who has been dealing with a thumb injury and wasn’t able to participate in practice. Four players are questionable, but all of them were full participants in Friday’s practice and thus should almost certainly play in Sunday’s game in Santa Clara.

Here’s what the final injury report for the Bucs looks like:

The 49ers are also fairly healthy, with only two players listed as out for Sunday in guard Aaron Banks and guard Nick Zakelj. Three other players are questionable but, like the Bucs, were all full participants in practice.
