Chiefs TE Travis Kelce ruled out for Week 18 vs. Chargers

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has been ruled out for Kansas City’s Week 18 matchup against the #Chargers.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been ruled out for the team’s Week 18 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The move to sit Kelce was a coaching decision and not the result of an injury to the star pass catcher. He will end his 2023 regular season with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns.

Kelce has made headlines this season for his relationship with pop music superstar Taylor Swift, but his work on the gridiron has been as superb as ever. The former University of Cincinnati Bearcat remains the Chiefs’ top receiver, and his presence will be crucial in Kansas City’s effort to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

While he won’t play in this contest, fans can expect to see Kelce on the field next week when the Chiefs face their first test of the AFC playoffs. Expect Kelce to have an outsized impact in Kansas City’s next matchup after getting a week to rest his legs.

Alvin Kamara among 3 Saints players ruled out vs. Bucs with injuries

RB Alvin Kamara is among 3 Saints players ruled out vs. Buccaneers with injuries, along with RT Landon Young and LB Nephi Sewell:

Of course it couldn’t be as easy for the New Orleans Saints as to walk in and out of Tampa Bay with a win over the Buccaneers. The team shared updates on several players who exited the game with injuries early in the fourth quarter — including Alvin Kamara.

After being initially ruled questionable to return, the Saints announced that Kamara would not return due to an ankle injury. That’s also the case for right tackle Landon Young, who suffered a knee injury while starting in relief of Ryan Ramczyk. A third Saints player, backup linebacker Nephi Sewell, also injured his knee on a non-contact play but was immediately ruled out.

It’s been a costly afternoon for New Orleans. The Saints have dominated in all phases but they’re losing some key players. Hopefully these downgrades for Kamara and Young are just precautionary; if the Saints are going to have any hope of winning a playoff seed they’ll need all hands on deck in the regular season finale against the Atlanta Falcons next week.

Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner officially out Week 18 with knee injury

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner has officially been ruled out Week 18 – Seattle’s season finale against the Cardinals – with a knee injury.

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner has officially been ruled out on the injury report for the team’s Week 18 matchup against the Cardinals and will not appear in Seattle’s regular-season finale Sunday in Arizona.

“He’s got some swelling, and it just didn’t loosen up enough,” coach Pete Carroll said after Friday’s walkthrough. “He’s got a tight knee, so he can’t do it. If he could, if there was any way, he would, but he can’t.”

Wagner sprained his knee last Sunday in the win over the Lions, and despite a valiant effort, was unable to return in time to play this weekend.

“Bobby’s been around long enough, and we’ve communicated long enough that he knows what he can do,” Carroll continued. “He really has great awareness of whether he could or not.

“If it was possible, he would be ready to go for it, but he just isn’t going to make it.”

Seahawks RB Chris Carson to miss 2nd game due to neck injury

Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has been ruled out Week 6 and will miss his second straight game due to a neck injury.

Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has officially been ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Coach Pete Carroll gave an update on Carson’s status following Friday’s walkthrough.

“He made a really good jump over the weekend and felt way better, but coming out of that, starting to go back to work with it, there’s not enough progress made,” Carroll told reporters. “So it’s better for us to get him back and make sure that we don’t rush it back. And so we’re going to just take this time—it is a delicate thing, he’s got something going on in his neck—so we got to make sure that we do it really well.

This week will mark the second straight game Carson will miss due to a neck injury.

“So we’re going to take care of him, it just seems like the right decision,” Carroll added. “The jump that he made was in his relief and he felt way better and all of that, but not ready to play it.”

The Seattle Seahawks were fortunate to have their starting right tackle, Brandon Shell, in the lineup in Week 14 against the New York Jets, but the reunion didn’t last long.

Shell left the game, limped to the locker room and was then ruled out for the remainder of the matchup with an ankle injury. He was replaced by Chad Wheeler, who was just signed off the practice squad this week.

“He tweaked it a couple times and then it was just one too many times,” coach Pete Carroll said of Shell after the win. “It was really studly of him just to go out and play. It’s going to be a touch and go week – I don’t know what’s going to happen this week and next weekend coming up.”

Shell had recently recovered from the high-ankle sprain he sustained in the Thursday night contest against the Cardinals in November, causing him to miss the last two games.

“I was really proud of him for playing this game,” Carroll continued. “He’s got a smile on his face but he’s going to be pretty sore tomorrow.”

Saints rule out WR Tre’Quan Smith (concussion) to return vs. 49ers

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith exited the first half of his game with the San Francisco 49ers with a concussion.

[jwplayer pjGN1SJz-ThvAeFxT].

The New Orleans Saints announced that third-year wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith would not return to their Week 10 game with the San Francisco 49ers, and that he was entering the NFL concussion protocol.

Smith dropped a pass while hand-fighting with one 49ers defensive back before another opponent, 49ers safety Jimmie Ward, slammed into both of them to break up the pass. Ward’s shoulder collided with Smith’s facemask and he fell to the turf.

It was a scary scene. Smith was initially non-responsive and lay prone as Saints medical trainers attended to him, signaling for a cart to come out. But Smith was able to return to his feet and carefully walked off the field and directly into the Saints locker room.

Additionally, the Saints announced that starting nose tackle Malcom Brown was questionable to return with a calf injury.
