Sooners earn Rivals Futurecast for 2026 QB Dereon Coleman

Oklahoma Sooners are the trending favorite for 2026 quarterback Dereon Coleman.

Oklahoma’s quarterback situation is in fantastic shape for the next few years.

Jackson Arnold takes the reigns in 2024. Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg came on board this spring. The Sooners have a commitment from Kevin Sperry and that doesn’t look like it’ll change.

The Sooners have been active in the 2026 quarterback market and it looks like they’ve zeroed in on a talented prospect out of the state of Florida, Dereon Coleman.

Not long after his offer was made public, the Sooners received a prediction from OUInsider’s Parker Thune. They’ve added another on Friday from Rivals national recruiting expert John Garcia.

Here’s what Sooners Wire’s Bryant Crews had to say about Coleman.

Coleman is a smaller quarterback prospect, standing at six feet. He throws a nice tight spiral and showcases some arm strength, ripping passes over the middle of the field. He also showed the ability to buy time with his athleticism while simultaneously looking down the field to make plays with his arm. – Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire

Coleman hasn’t received an evaluation from any of the recruiting services at this point, but he has the skills that could make him a four-star prospect when the 2026 rankings updates come through.

Recruiting profile for 2024 4-Star prospect Aaron Flowers

Updated recruiting profile for 2024 four-star safety Aaron Flowers.

Armed with a top-five class in the 2023 recruiting cycle, the Oklahoma Sooners turn their attention to following that up with another highly-rated class in 2024.

Over the last couple of months, Brent Venables and the coaching staff have been getting some positive buzz on several of their prospects. One of which is four-star safety, Aaron Flowers.

Out of Forney, Texas, Flowers currently has 16 Power Five offers across the country, but the Sooners appear to be leading the pack for his commitment. He’s a versatile defensive back that could help a number of teams at both cornerback and safety. He can play in the box, deep middle, he can play on the outside and on the inside. He’s a defensive coordinator’s dream with his flexibility.

Flowers has the coverage skills to carry wide receivers in man-to-man and the physicality to help in run support. He tackles with an edge in both the run game and the passing game, which helps him to be a tone-setter for his defense.

He’s being projected at safety at the college level, but his coverage skills will give him the opportunity to make a huge impact in all facets of the game.

Sooners receive Rivals FutureCast for 2024 DB Mykel Patterson-McDonald

The Oklahoma Sooners received a Rivals FutureCast for 2024 defensive back Mykel Patterson-McDonald.

As national signing day for the 2023 class wraps up, Oklahoma’s gaining traction on 2024 prospects. The Sooners received a Rivals FutureCast from SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuistion for Westmoore (Moore, Okla.) safety prospect Mykel Patterson-McDonald.

Patterson-McDonald is currently unrated, but he’s a prospect that will be turning heads over the next year in 7-on-7 competitions and in his senior year.

Simply put, Patterson-McDonald plays big and plays with tenacity. He attacks the ball in the air and is physical at the catch point. When receivers are targeted over the middle of the field, Patterson-McDonald makes sure they feel his presence with physical hits. He also does a great job playing the ball when it’s in the air. He shows good awareness and reaction when the ball is thrown, allowing him to jump routes to pick off passes.

Though he has just two Power Five offers at the moment, look for Mykel Patterson-McDonald to begin picking up more offers before next year’s national signing day.
